No water? WTF?
Nirvana hands down. I was finally able to stay there last trip and loved it. Low density, great staff, deep beach, nice clean rooms. I would rather stay at Nirvana than anywhere else on the beach. White Sands is next door for cold beer if you run out, couple cool spots just a hop skip and a jump away.
Nirvana
Sandy Haven is nicer end hotel, next door is Coco La Palm, I would try them. Of your 3 choices I would say Rondell Village. Nice size rooms, bar on beach, restaurant on property but run by different people than hotel. Nirvana is rather shady & darker, more laid back & don't think they have a/c. Travellers is at far end of West End beach which is more run down & less secure. Negril Tree House is another hotel I would suggest with awesome breakfast buffet included in room price.
In the Sandy Haven price range / caliber I would look into Idle Awhile... It is amazing, laid back and really cool. You may be surprised that some places will offer you bargains to fill vacancy on short notice.
Nirvana Rondel and Travelers are on my green light list.. Rondel and Nirvana being mid beach, but Travelers conveniently closer to town...
Idle awhile is sold out. We also found a b&B called Aqua. Anyone know that place?
I called Sandy Haven and they have been without water on and off for a couple weeks...we are arriving in 2 weeks and they didn't sound very certain that the water would be up and running. And apparently they haven't offered much compensation to those who have been stuck without water during their stay!
And how far is Nirvana from Sandy Haven area on beach? We don't want to be too far from town....
here's a link to a map to help with distances: http://media.tripod.lycos.com/2567851/2007898.pdf
Thanks Kathy! That really helps a lot.
Charella Inn? Thoughts? Most places are sold out. Charella has rooms as does Aqua, Rondell and Nirvana has one room left.
I could take my chances nd keep the reservation at Sandy Haven, but I'm concerned about the water issue. I'm laid back, but I will need to shower once or twice and I'd like to be able to the flush the toilet :-)
Aqua is a great spot with beautiful rooms. More like a guest house with only a few rooms. However, it gets LOUD there as a popular music venue is really close, so sleep might be an issue. What exactly are you looking for? All places listed have fans for various reasons, so some insight will go a long way.
Also, have you looked at the West End/Cliffs? Great place to stay if you are going with a significant other and want some peace and quiet.
Charela has a nice deep beach, good restaurant, great mid beach location.
I haven't been to Negril in 20 years, but spent 4-5 months a year for almost 5 years there in the late 80s, early 90s. I'm going with my sister and we'll spend a lot of time with some old friends....so I'm looking to relax but also be in a good location. I'm now in my early 40s so while I'll party some, I'm not looking to stay out all night! I used to stay in the mountains, no running water at all, but I would like a comfortable and clean and safe accomodation.
Rondel is the better, Nirvana is lot of trees, could be damp and buggy, Rondel next door to boat Bar, good music on FriDAY, Rondel really newer place with the amenities.
Nirvana, Charela, Country Country or Aqua
So let me get this straight: Sandy Haven, with rack rates from $238 to $458 per night, has no running water and can NOT fix the problem within a day or two?
Even in Jamaica, where NOTHING should surprise you, that's ridiculous.
Rondel hands down thats where we always stay . managment and staff r great
Nirvana!
What room is available at Nirvana? I have been in all of them. And I will be there in 2 weeks
PS. Nirvana is not buggy and the trees make for lovely shade on the beach. The centre garden is lovely and has shady spots for relaxing or napping in a hammock
Saw Aqua mentioned. toured that place. It looked awesome. Had thoughts about renting the whole place for a couple nights for my wedding maybe.
Flip, is Aqua reopened? I thought only the bar was running
Its a pretty spot for a wedding Flip
Nirvana is great. Plenty of water, lots of sunlight, or shade if you need it, all rooms and cottages have kitchens, and the staff is excellent. They will spoil you. We have stayed there 5 times and never saw a bug. The beach has lots of space. No problems at Nirvana.
I would go with Nirvana or Charela. Both have a great beach and great location.
I think Aqua is open. There is a recent review on Trip Advisor.
Beachfront suites and rooms have A/C at Nirvana, all have louvered shutters with screens and ceiling fans. Great place, have stayed there 4 times. Full kitchens in some rooms, comes with cook service for one meal. Great staff. Huge beach with lots of shade.
Nirvana! You would be fortunate to secure lodging there on such short notice. They are usually booked solid during "busy season".
I don't think the issue is that they have NO WATER, I think the issue is that they have no HOT WATER. Here's a trip report from six days ago:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...ml#UR195581828
Reviewed 6 days ago NEW This was our 18th trip to Jamaica and we have stayed at many places up and down the Seven Mile Beach. This was our first stay at Sandy Haven after staying last September at Idle Awhile. While Idle Awhile was very nice, there is simply no question that Sandy Haven is the best hotel option on the Seven Mile Beach
Not only are the rooms updated and immaculate but service and the food are first rate. From the time I made my reservation with Heather until the time Pops closed the trunk when we left in the cab to depart to the airport our experience was nothing but positive and we had been completely awash in true Jamaican hospitality.
While we were there there was an issue with the hot water as some have mentioned but our experience was that management was extremely concerned and apologetic about it and had people working on it constantly to get it fixed. What some people don't understand is that Jamaica is not like the US where there is a Home Depot in every neighborhood and sometimes major repairs can take longer to complete. We are from Chicago and know what "cold" water is like and the water while they were addressing the problem was better described as tepid and for the last two days there hot and steamy when the problem was fixed. When we checked out we were compensated very generously for our inconvenience which was not that significant
In any event we have found our place and will be returning to Sandy Haven for trips 19 , 20 and onward.......
Room Tip: Ocean front the best

Stayed February 2014, traveled as a couple
No, I called yesterday and they told me they had no water at all right now. If you look at reviews in the past 2 weeks there has been a water problem....either no hot water or no water at all. Regardless we paid a good amount for the room, so I'd be annoyed with no hot water for 220 a night!
The vibe at Nirvana is chill. No bar or restaurant or gift shop, just 12 units on the whole property. As you know you can walk right or left on the beach for anything you want or need or the vendors come to you so you really don't have to move from your chair if you don't want to. We cook up some food, easy stuff like pasta salad, and sandwiches and then we will bring home food like Jerk chicken or fish etc. Leftovers store well in fridge and can be reheated easily. The garden room would be apprx. 25 steps to the sand.
We've rented the Garden Bedroom twice in conjunction with the Owner's Villa to make it a 2BR. It doesn't have any view, but the grounds are great, just don't spend much time in the room. It's fairly new and clean, looks exactly like the pictures on their website. I believe it has a hot plate, small fridge, coffee maker and blender. No cook service. It does have A/C.

Aqua hands down.....
with Charela a distant second
Ended up canceling Sandy haven (I'm so happy...I don't think it' the right place for me) and booked Charela...Nirvana had booked the last room already!
Good choice!
You'll love it, Charela has a great beach.
