Hello everyone! Newbie to the message board:) Ideas on gifts for staff.
March 20 will be our 3rd time to Negril (first time non-all-inclusive), and we need gift ideas for the hotel staff.

It would be easier if you know your hotel staff. I know the staff at where I stay, so it's pretty easy. Usually get the owners son all the newest Disney movies (cloudy with a chance of meatballs, planes, freebirds, etc). For the staff members they usually want ipod anything (chargers, portable speaker, etc). One of them likes bags of tabbaco from the US and a couple cigars. Usually take them all to Debar or we all cook a meal together and play board games.

I have brought candy and school supplies for the kids and have given candles, perfumes and lotions to housekeepers, but what they appreciate most is cash (tips).

I mostly just give cash/tips. The minimum wage being apprx $50US/week, a cash tip can be a very nice gift.

I had one of the lifeguards/beach/security guys ask me last time for my Dry Pak before I left. Lots of people along the beach have them but apparently they are very expensive in Negril. If you want to give a non-cash gift, I think these would be good for those who are outside all the time.

I give cash and other stuff. The school kids wear black and navy socks. I brought wedding glasses, pony tail holders, glow sticks, candy, plastic zip lock bags were a hit...left a toaster, kettle, some cutlery. When I asked Donna our housekeeper at The Rondel about peanut butter she said she loved it! She was so sweet...she said we appreciate whatever you give and I can always find someone who will need it.. I like to give gifts as well as cash. I also leave notes thanking them for taking care of our room and always try and find out their names.

Stop by Mega Mart on your way to Negril and purchase whole wheat bread ( not sliced) made in the store about $2.40 US each. They LOVE the bread. I always buy for my staff a BIG hit.

Tip daily on the bed. I have been to our housekeepers home. Believe me she has all the shampoos and conditioners she will ever use. CASH is what is really needed. Electricity is high, water cost, school for kids, taxi to work, food on the table........you get the idea~~CASH.

Daily for housekeeping, I put 5 Hershey miniature chocolates in a little bag along with a thank you note and cash tip (600J/day) They are so appreciative of the goodies and the cash that I never run low on towels and my room is sparkling clean. Midway my stay, I give female security a small bottle of body mist plus (1,000J) tip. Males get a baseball cap plus the same cash tip. Tip the hotel waiter/waitress (200J) daily. If I eat outside the hotel I tip 20% of my bill.
A little gift is nice, but cash is much appreciated and needed in any situation.
