Which one if you had to pick?
I thought Mayfield was great. wife and kids loved it as well. No crowds to speak of. Check out this thread for more answers.

Also there are pictures of Mayfield and a description in my recent trip report
How far is Mayfield from Couples Negril?
In my younger days I would have said Mayfield but you have to be in pretty good shape to do the walk through the river and falls. If you are up to it I highly recommend it. You will have a guide with you and ours was very helpful. First time we went to YS was not long after they opened to the public and we loved it. Now it's all built up and I see they even have zip lines (shudder). Still well worth seeing and you can do it as part of a South Coast trip.
Barb, according to the Mayfield Falls website it is about an hour ride from Negril which as I recall is about right. It's a beautiful ride too.
Thanks, Shaggy. Trying to decide between Mayfield or going to the Blue Hole and Little Bay. Can you tell me more about the "guide" for the falls. We would be hiring a driver to bring us. Is this someone at the falls? Can you just visit on your own?
Barb ~ Mayfield is more of a river walk with falls. You are in the water the whole time at Mayfield, whereas at YS, you can walk up alongside the falls on stairs. You need to be fairly agile to get through Mayfield, but it is so beautiful and peaceful. We've been to both, and I would definitely go back to Mayfield Falls. We were the only ones "on the river" at the time. The guide is from there. He carried our cameras for us in a waterproof bag and took fantastic pictures.
Thanks, Jenn! That really gave me the information I was looking for.
Having only been to Mayfield , I can recommend it for sure kids loved it
CAUTION: if you let the guide use your camera ,put a fresh card in for the day as I forgot & he accidentally deleted about 150 pictures
The vibe was defiantly "No rush Mon"
Plan on tipping your guide. :) To my knowledge, they work for tips. I could be wrong, but he really made our trip through the river fun!
I was gonna do ys but mayfield sounds better to me
Yup, loved Mayfield! I'm not athletic or terribly coordinated and not in great shape. The guide held my hand to steady me in certain places. The hardest part was the climb up the hill to the road at the end.
Private guides do work for tips only and were great. I would plan on at least $20 as they're with you for a couple of hours.
It is beautiful, refreshing, natural and the lunch they serve is awesome!
I am an overweight guy with heart problems and brought 6 and 9 year old kids with me and although a few hills were slow going we had no problems and would do it again in a heart beat.
We've done both and would recommend Mayfield for sure. And yes, they work for tips and they expect big tips too!
