I wish I was there to support this cause. The beach was so much better in February, without jetskis!! Please keep the ban... maybe the Watersports Association could switch their focus to non-motorized sports, like paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks, etc.

I hope this gets a lot of support and a good turn out of attendees. I would like to see them keep the ban.
At Hellshire Beach in Portmore they rent old truck inner tubes... sooooo awesome floating around on those, really takes me back to when I was a kid

I agree with the no jet skis on the beach. I was there when they went quiet, ...ahh ! We were so glad not to see the jet skis wiz by you when your swimming or the sounds they make, plus the consent hassle of "are you ready now" the fish are back and the sounds of the beach can be heard....very peaceful and more beautiful ! wish I could attend to give support .

Total agree. Keep the ban!

Keep the ban forever, personal water sport vehicles are loud, dity pollutants, and dangerous! Show all the support to keep the ban this board has supported (but can not be at meeting right now). Even if you have to show them these posts with Robs approval.

Is there a website somewhere for a petiton to keep the ban in place? If not, there should be. Don't know how much weight it would carry in Jamaica, but it would be a way to let voices be heard from around the world.

I'm also sure the victim here will be filing a lawsuit. That is a financial deterrent also.
I like the story of how the fish come out and play more by the cliffs now.

I agree with the fact that they are noisy and that they are a danger to swimmers. But there should be a place for everybody. Control and regulations are the way, not a total ban. Read this thread again from the beginning. A lot of you sound like Grumpy old Clint Eastwood in El Camino when he was yelling at the kids for being on your lawn. Sometimes as we age we start judging and looking down at the young people who are just trying to have fun. Im guilty of it as well. When the local kids fly across my property on snowmobiles and dirt bikes I get mad and yell at them but than always try to remember that was me 20 years ago.

Re: Negril Watersports Assn Press Conference today at Treehouse 3:00 PM
I've been quoted in the Jamaica Gleaner on this a number of times, and try to be reasonable. The jet ski's have been a problem due to lack of regulation and enforcement. I've had a jet ski worker physically threaten me when I objected to his riding through the middle of a group of people at full speed. The dangers are definitely there, and the noise and pollution are bad. However, there is a market for them and they do provide employment for many locals. What we need more than a ban is enforced regulations with riding areas clearly outlined and shown by the jet ski staffs. Without the dreaded jet ski's, there is more unemployment in a desperate nation. Hours of operation and enforcement of the rules will make them something that we can live with and help the economy of an area we love.

How did the conference go? Is the ban still set at 6 months (from February 2014)?

It is ironic since 1995 only (7) legal operators in Negril can have (6) jet skis per operator - summary only (42) should be maximum in Negril at 100% working . Enforcement is the issue and folks that want the best price for a jet ski= no insurance. If you do not sign a waiver, Buyer Beware!

please keep the ban in effect

Jet skis are a pain in the ass!
Rent a scooter or motorcycle if you want wind in your hair.

Re: Negril Watersports Assn Press Conference today at Treehouse 3:00 PM
Please continue to ban jet skis.
I, like many people who support the jet ski ban, am concerned about unemployment and the well-being of all residents. Perhaps together we can envision a superior, creative solution to unemployment, one that doesn't involve a commerce that endangers lives, disturbs the tranquility of sea creatures and humans and damages the natural beauty of Negril's beautiful sea.

Are you talking about closing all the hotels?
