What to be sure I see in negril?
Getting ready for a trip to negril in less than two weeks. 2nd time in Jamacia, first time we stayed at Trelawny in/near Ocho Rios.
The first time we visited, we saw...
1.) Dunns River Falls. This was amazing, but there's no way I'd be able to make it up this again. I have since lost my left leg above the knee.
2.) Martha Brae. This was a pretty neat little excursion, but we went on it right after a shower storm an the mosquitoes we terrible.
3.) Bob Marley's compound at 9 mile - Excellent tour, but outside of the compound was a little rough and very very competitive between vendors vieing for my attention.
So far, I've heard that Rick's is a must see. And that the one love pub crawl is something we can't miss. Also, we love nightlife and clubs with a local flair, without being too dangerous. I think we're staying very close to the Jungle so will go there for sure.
Any other recommendations? We have an 8 day /7 night visit. I think I heard that there is a place called Los Vegas?

The ride to the Rum Factory is nice and the tasting is nicer.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
Take a boat ride to see the West End from the water, and do some snorkeling along the way (recommend Famous Vincent). Honestly, I'd skip Rick's and go to 3 Dives instead, it's much more "local" and has the same views, infinitely better food and nice owners.

Does 3 Dives have a ladder? If not, you could exit the boat ride you suggest at Xtabi. And I agree, have Vincent pick you up on the beach and shuttle you to the West End. Another great spot he could drop you off would be Ivan's for dinner. Just make sure it is after 5PM when they open to outside guest. Ivan's is two properties over from Rick's and is not a zoo like Rick's.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
no ladder at Tree Dives........but over at Xtabi......
try to hit a concert......or at least one of the live shows in Negril........
Las Vegas is a Strip Club if that is your thing on the beach......gets roaring about 1AM
go up to the Cliffs just before Sunset and enjoy a nice Sunset....plenty of places to choose from.....
probably do the Pub Crawl as it's a great way to hit a lot of bars in a short period of time......
do one of those romantic meals like at Ivans, Rockhouse, Kuyaba, LTU, etc.......
as far as tours.....mi favorite one is Mayfield Falls...it's fun and only loose a half day doing it.....
hang at some of the beach bars......there are too many too list......
go out with Famous Vincent and go either snorkeling or a nice boat ride and see what Negril looks like from da wata......
go out and enjoy a nice breakfast.....enjoy dat Blue Mountain Coffee......and that fresh squeezed OJ.....
but whatever you do....look out for that OverProof Rum....or dat Special Cake......lol
Enjoy!
Cool Runnings, Marko

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
Go grab some pork at Red Dragon. Mondays around 12:30-1:00 is a good time to check it out.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
So, my take aways are...
- Ivan's and/or 3 Dives for dinner instead of Ricks?
- the Rum Factory would be a good tour.
- Is Las Vegas any better than scrub-a-dub or Triple X? We would like to check out a club, but I've been told these two were very rough.
- We'll be staying at Kuyaba, so that's one of the things on the list from Marco.
- Mayfield Falls - is this disabled friendly?
- Get out on a boat
Where should I look for a live concert? We are big into Reggae.
Anything else? 11 days and counting!

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
I think Rick's is a hoot watching people jump and the pro divers too. We stay a few hours and watch the sunset and then walk (or a very short cab ride) down to Seastar for the Saturday concert. Seastar will then take you back to your hotel for no charge after the buffet\concert.
Mayfiled Falls in not for the disabled.
I'm alwys a proponent of going to Sav early on Friday or Saturday to check out the market. Of course "early" might not be helpful if you are out late partying the night before!
Regards,
Bob

Bob
I'm sure we'll be up by noon on at least one of the days we're there, lol. Well, maybe not. ;-)
I've heard that the nightlife really doesn't get going until after midnight, so our general plan to deviate from is to be up by 2pm ..., shop/relax on the beach until late afternoon, catch dinner and the sunset somewhere, head back to the resort for a nap, hit the clubs around midnight until 3 or 4.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
We went to sugar processing factory once near Sav and it was interesting. Not sure if they still do the tours.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
Yes...do the pub crawl! You may want to try Bourbon Beach. There was no cover charge when we were there in Feb.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
On the day after your arrival or the day before your departure, visit me at Tanya's Secret Escape for the best ever massage. It will help you unwind from the hassling of travel and more relaxed to enjoy your vacation. I am located just beside 3 Dives and if you do not want a massage you can still stop by to say "hi" :).
Have fun when u get here.

Sounds like a great idea. We might do that!

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
do Seastar on sat nite, do the RED STRIPE CATAMARAN instead of doing a Ricks Cafe run, for 45.00 dollars a person R.S. Catamaran will take you for a cruise to snorkeling reefs , stop by the lighthouse, then Ricks , more snorkeling, then a small jerk chicken dinner and all you can drink for 45.00, you will pay major $ for food and drinks at Ricks, plus your transportation, soon come

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
We tried Red Dragon this trip and will definitely go back there.

This sounds like a great idea, combining a couple of the things on our checklist in one evening. Thanks for the suggestion!

What is Red Dragon?

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
It's a bar in red ground that serves excellent jerk pork. Mondays around 12:30 - 1:00 is a good day to stop in.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
I think Mondays are chubby white tourist and ginger days at Red Dragon. A must visit!

LOL, that's hilarious. Thanks.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
A breakfast at Just Natural on the West End would be nice and relaxing. The food is amazing and the family running it are just wonderful.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
Two words.... Pub crawl.... I had probably 2 drinks the whole time but it was seriously one of the funnest times on our trip

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
When I'm at home, I'm a night owl as well but I have to tell you that the early morning from 6-11 on the beach is great. It's still quiet and not too many sales people yet. A coffee or two spiked with some rum cream and some fruit is a great way to slide into your day.
Get up early, enjoy the am, take a nap in the afternoon then hit it at night.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
I have a "Hard" time getting out of the water at Xtabi with Two legs. You also may have the sun in your eyes and the wave sets to deal with.
I would not advise it.

Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
Red Dragon = Ragabones ???
Yes, no?
-
Re: What to be sure I see in negril?
If you swim in, you can enter Xtabi through the cave - it's very easy.
In high seas the ladder might be rough but again the cave is going to be an easy way to get up.
For what it's worth . . .
