Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Question is, if I'm staying at Treehouse for 5 nights, do I book cliffs first two days or last two days?
I'm thinking first two days, this way we can enjoy our ride out to Negril, stopping where we want and take the Treehouse bus back to the airport.
I'm also afraid that once I get off the beach, I'll be missing it and be thinking about it the last two days in the cliffs.
I think I just answered my own question but I'm still interested in your thoughts.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I think you're on the right track. That way you won't be completely pale walking down the beach, it's much more private on the West End

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I have mixed it up but I decided that I'm all hyped up when I arrive so I do the beach first, then get into the "slow" mode for the cliffs 2nd.
I did that twice, but now that I have more knowledge,I just do my base camp at CCLP then do 1/2 day trips to the cliffs instead of pack/unpack,you may lose 1.2 day due to check in/check out thing.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
As much as Id hate to admit this... I agree with Fred Stripe! hahaha
when you get there you are pumped and have energy to burn- the beach is perfect for this. Later in the trip you start to get into the vibe and settle down n chill... west end is perfect for that.
Where you thinking for your west end stay?...

Well that was my next question, but I know there's a ton of recommendations and comments in the threads here so I was going to do some reading before I asked for suggestions. Although, I'm alway open to them. I dont need anythign fancy and I'd like to stay under $75 a night.
As for being pumped up, I think I'd actually like hitting slow mode right away.
Only one way to find out and the good thing is, I have the rest of my life to keep going back to figure it out.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
For me, if I'm doing a split I prefer to do the cliffs 1st, I love that's its more chill - gets me mellow that much sooner :)

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
try the castle's lower tower room out... I love it there
-
Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Thanks. Castle looks great and right in my price range.
Any other suggestions for a room a low the sea as possible and also, alternate suggestions for a hotel with somewhat of a bar scene. I think Xtabi fits that bill but seems a little too expensive for me.
-
Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
When I do cliffs first I never want to go to the beach :D
Castle is great, quiet. BYO bar scene.
Catcha has a nice bar scene but no rooms in that price range. Xtabi's across the street rooms are.
You might consider hotels with nearby bars.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I was thinking maybe Home Sweet Home but it might over your price range. You could always call and see what kind of rate you could get. It is in a good location, close to dining and bars. We stopped there on the bar crawl last month and it looked nice.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Moonlight Villa is a great little place. Next to Blue Cave Castle and on the other side is one of the best bars, Pee Wee's.
-
Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
SamSara...Daily Sunset Happy Hour & free shuttle "if" you miss the beach :) PeeWee's & No Limit within walking distance, too!

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
We did a week each last year. I honestly did not enjoy the beach time. It could have been the circumstances of our trip, or staying at an AI... But now that we have started doing the cliffs, I tend to enjoy the privacy and quiet. I am more of an introvert than many though.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I like to "get there fast and then take it slow" and the cliffs are perfect for that. In fact, like a lot of people here, I would never stay on the beach.
Choose carefully. Seastar is the our preferred chill place.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
You might also consider CFSGardens. Price is great, pool, with LTU right across the street! Don't think you will regret a few days chilling pon da cliffs. It will be great where ever you choose. Being a former beach dweller, I still love the beach...but want to lay my head down at night....relaxing on the cliffs. Truly a family of its own!!!

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
We stopped at Home Sweet Home last November and they had plenty of open rooms and were willing to negotiate price if paying cash, within your price range. Not sure you would get the "best" price if you reserve in advance though.
Regards,
Bob

Catcha posted a special rate today. Thread is here:

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Yes,Xtabi rooms across the street are nice for the money, pool also.
Drinks are pricey there ($5 for Red Stripe) but you prime up at the room first.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Really wanted to stay seaside and had to keep it cheap cause I'm travelling solo. Went with Bluecave #4. Really excited to try out the cliffs for a few days!
Next time, when I have some company, maybe I'll check out one of the pricier places.
I'll try and wander through some of the places across the road while I'm down there to see if something bites me.
Thanks all for the tips!
Any other advice from cliff dwellers for a beach guy? I know it's months away, but you all know how it feels once you book. :D

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
We stayed on the cliffs 2 nights and then went to Hedo for 8 nights 2 years ago.Last year we stayed at Hedo 5 days and then Catcha 5 and that worked out much better. We still over partied on the cliffs but that's because there seemed to always be a party happening where ever we went.Enjoy your time no matter where you go!!

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
If you can get the OCF cottages at Xtabi ????WoW!

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I think BCC is an awesome choice!

You'll like #4, it's a good room with a good view. Eat at Pablo's, out the gate take a right and it's down a hundred yards or two on your left. Great food, good prices, good people there. L&M grocery is on your way there for any incidentals, PeeWee's just up and to the right from BCC is a great spot for dinner (try the steam fish) and decent for breakfast.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Once you do the cliffs you'll be hooked.
Maybe that's my age talking but I really love the west end.
Regardless enjoy your trip Dude!

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
We tried two nights on the cliffs to start a trip a few years ago.
Was nice, but missed getting up early and walking out on the beach. We still visit the cliffs each reach but have not stayed there again.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
We've stayed at Home Sweet Home twice. Nice seaview rooms right on the cliffs. Nice pool (I understand the hot tub is now working, too), and the restaurant/bar is very good. It also has one of the best cliff setups on the west end. Call or e-mail them to negotiate a better rate than what you see online. During the slow season, you can get a regular seaview room (king or queen bed) for $75. As rjonsun said, you will probably get the best deal if you don't book in advance and just walk in to negotiate a deal.
I like the location of HSH, as well. Jenny's/C&D, No Limit and Pee Wee's are within easy walking distance. A $5 cab ride for 2 will get you anywhere out to the deep West End or the beach.

Yeah, that's how I feel, I can't do without my long walks on the beach 3-4x/day.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Stretch your budget and stay at Tensing Pen or Catcha Falling Star....BCC is great but no bar...if that isn't an issue then it's perfect

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Its a worth-while experiment!

Hello I'm Carolyn not on here much. I love Negril. We did a cliff/beach split last year. We were afraid we wouldn't like cliffs. We started out cliffs went to beach. We ended up chucking the beach and going back to cliffs. Catcha is awesome , very secure. Beautiful views. They have some nice cheap rooms. We stayed at Xtabi also. Caves take you out to the ocean, or you can jump. We are doing garden side this yr. very inexpensive rooms.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
It's very interesting to me how much peoples opinions vary on this topic.
We tried the cliffs for our first time back in April for 3 nights. It was fun and we are glad we did it, but I don't think we will be staying cliff side again anytime soon. We just like the beach more, plain and simple.
I would do a trip report about it but I'm afraid most people would find our vacations pretty boring. :)

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
Tried the cliffs for 3 nights and will never do it again. I just need my feet in the sand. After one night I was ready to move. Also I can't swim so it doesn't work for me on the cliffs. Way too quiet and peaceful. If that is what you are looking for go for it.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I stay at Treehouse too Mikey. Love waking up there. I did the cliff mix last Feb. never again. I love the Cliffs and taxi up every evening usually comped by the restaurant I'm going to. Best restaurants on the Cliffs! But oh the beach!!!

Could not be more boring than mine, get up, head to hammock hut, eat, nap, eat again and go to bed :)
Also, love the quote on your sig line.

Re: Going to try the cliffs for a couple days this time...
I like to do half and half....I love walking the beach several times a day, but it's nice to get away from all of the "sand sharks" and enjoy the peacefulness of the cliffs. Plus, weather permitting, you can snorkel anytime you want. Sub building materials seem to be better on the cliffs according to the hubs. We're considering Xtabi cottage 2 or, Mirage for half the price. Would do Xtabi gardens, but I gotta have that blue sea view!
