I just came back from my FIRST trip to Negril. I was supposed to leave on the 10th but stayed a extra 3 days because it was SOOO wonderful. I went alone, and I tell you what, that is the first time Ive ever done that but wont be the last! It was so wonderful I have so many pictures stories, Im going to attempt to do a trip report after I get off work!

So here's my attempt for a trip report. Forgive me because this is my first time!
Flew from Nashville at 530am and got into MBJ at 9:55am. I checked no luggage so had just my roller carry on with me. Since I was one of the first flights in that day there was no line at all in immigrations, I think we even woke them up. So I was outside to meet my driver by 10am. (Ashton Pitt. He was awesome) he brought me some porridge and off we go!
There were some people that were Austin Texas that were with me and this was not there first rodeo so he took us to the bank, the grocery store and then to TEDS.
they asked me if I mind and I said why not? Didn't have any idea what teds was.
Then...I Knew! This man is very passionate about his product let me tell you. So after a beer and talking with The owner the couple I was with bought quite the cornucopia of product and then off we go ! I was just four hours into my trip and all this happened!!! I ended up meeting them for supper that night at charlea and floated in the ocean with them the next morning. This was the first of many friends that I met.
Oh i also greeted the ocean with a night swim and the security guard watching my back ( or front) to make sure I'm good. what is about Negril makes you do things you wouldn't ever do back home?
Staying at cocolapalm the housekeeper came and brought me a comb when she heard me muttering to myself that I forgot mine. That place was awesome.

You go, girl! Great start! Can't believe you're going back again so soon.....staying at Coco again, or trying someplace new? Let us know how (if at all) the construction there affected your vacation. And were you able to book a flight on Southwest?
The second day I floated in the ocean for awhile with the couple I met the day before. I ate from the vendors on the beach. It's like a perfectly orchestrated meal. First you have fruits in the morning form the fruit man. Then you have the rum cake man for the second course. Then hear comes the main course..the patty man! Then you have the jerk pork man! Then after all that you have the juice man comes so you can refill your Bubba mug with rum ice and juice. It's perfect!
I have to go get ready for the one love bus your. Lambert was on time, but I didn't know that i needed to meet him outside my hotel so he passed by me. No worries the hotel called him and he Came back! We went to some great bars and I met some great people!

I think delta is cheaper Liz the southwest. delta also gets you there quicker. The construction only bothered me when I was sleeping in. So it made me get my rear in gear because I don't need to be in my room sleeping at 10am anyways.
Oh and yes staying at cocolapalm because they continued there special with one stop.89 a night and I get a 5% discount because im now a returning guest! More expensive to stay at home!! At least that's what I'm telling myself.

The next day it rained. I emailed a gentleman before I left who was highly recommended on T.A. about 100% mountain coffee. Evidently this man goes up to the blue mountains for a few months at a time..does his thing picks some beans and this roasts him in his house.
I thought today would be a great day to go see him since it was raining. He gave me his number on a previous email, so I called him and he has a house right across the street from Alfreds. So I took a cab to his house and while he roasted coffee on his covered deck he played Diana Ross for me and I laid on his couch sipping some Rum Punch he offered me and looking at his photo albulm of his life. This happened!!!!!
As I tell this story to my friends they are all " So you met a man you found on the internet, went to his house and drank what he offered you and laid on his couch and looked at photos while he played some motown in the background"
Negril makes you do things you would NEVA EVA do in real life.
So Yea. I did that. And it was AWESOME.

On Sunday I went to the Catholic church in spitting distance of my hotel. It was Pentecost Sunday so lots of rejoicing, lots of music, hand clapping..wonderful time!
After that went to go get some friend chicken from that place on the corner of the roundabout that I heard the locals get there food from.

Negril I found out is small. One instance I was trying to get a taxi and the driver was like " I know you" I was like..whatever... He was all know "no, when you went to church you had forgotten your key in the church. You were in a hurry you forgot to look to cross the treat a guy had to instruct you have to look left then right then left again. Then you couldn't find it and the priest came to your hotel looking for you because later he did."
This story is exactly true.
Another instance is my friends that I met the very first day came up to me on Monday and said "hey i heard you extended!" How did they know that!!! They asked someone where I was at the hotel and they told them I was in my room fussing with Delta to waive my 200 dollar change fee
You know back home I would think all this was creepy and a little stalker-like. There it didn't feel like that. It felt more like people watchin my back and looking after me..
On Monday it takes me half the day to talk to my boss, my employees, Delta, Move some money around in the bank, talk to my brother whose lookin after my house, my boyfriend who is being super understanding (his thoughts on me extending my stay: You must be having a REALLY good time)
CoCoLaPalm had a mangers reception that was fun. Music free food and free drinks at Sunset. So thats that day...

Tuesday I spend half the day getting my hair braided. My driver negotiated a nice lady to come to my room, wash and greese my scalp and but braids in my hair for 20% what I would pay back in the states.
I guess it would have been better to go to the braid shop in the hut on the roundabout, but they dont have air condition and Im just not quite there yet. lol.
So her and I had a nice day enjoying the breeze in my room, watching lifetime movies on Tv and Im drinking rum Punch and having food delieverd to my room like a spoiled girl but I didnt care.
I recall a conversation with her:
Her: "Why is there so much suicide in America?
Me: Oh you know the stress of life, feeling of hopelessness, lots of different factors.
Her: And the cold too. Its very cold there.
ME: Yes, around the Holidays there are more suicides, but I dont think that has to do with the cold. It has more to do with...
Her: You know, they should smoke Marijuana. Then I dont think there will be no more suicide. Its medicine you know...
Is that not the best conversation EVER?

So after running out of money and four shades darker I pack up all the coffee and wood carvings that I bought. Since I only took a carry on, I leave a lot of my dresses ( The ones that cost like 20 bucks at TJ Max ) for the hosuekeeprs and my beach bag (cost like 10 bucks at Marshells)
I know they appreciated, but not as much as I appreciated them. They washed my clothes while I was there!!! So very nice.
I think about Negril every day. Every day. When people tell me how stressed there are my answer is "you need to go to Negril". When people tell me how tired they are my answer is "you need to go to Negril" When people ask me where Im watching the world cup my answer is "I wish I was watching it in Negril"
Did I tell you how I got jerked back from my Vacation? Stupid Atl airport. I hate that place. The custom officer looks at my passport and then looks at me. I answer all his questions and he is all like " So. You were supposed to stay four days in Negril and you stayed 8. You have no friends or family that you went to see there and you travled alone?"
I look at him and say " IF I wait around for people to do stuff with me Ill be waiting around my whole life and honey aint NOBODY got time for that.
Douche. He needs to go to Negril.

I always get the same at the airport...did you travel alone, bring anything back for someone, where did you stay, shoe size, bra size...not really but you get my point. To me it seems, single black women get hassled more. Doesn't stop me from going though! :)
Love your trip report! You are hilarious :) doesn't the special screening just make ya feel ... Well... SPECIAL? I mean, we're middle aged and boring but still get pulled aside -oh well - if thats the cost of admission so be it.
When I have my Afro its 10xs worse. They swear im smuggling something in my hair. It never fails when I come back from overseas..I could barely process them this time though cus I've been in such a zen state I was like...whoa mon! So loud mon! Easy mon!!!!Quote:
