Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
I am looking for recommendations for a "budget" Honeymoon on the Cliffs -Oceanside for September. I know that Catcha is running a special but that is still a little over the budget - looking for something around $85 - $100 or less. This is for two newbies so while I know that being in Negril is truly magical no matter where you are at, they are looking for something kinda special since it is their honeymoon. Looked at Samsara, Mirage, Xtabi and Catcha already any thoughts on these properties or suggestions for other places are much appreciated as its been about 9 years since I have been in Negril and not sure what has changed since then.
Thanks so much!!
Cheers~

I have never stayed at Xtabi, but I did spend a day there. It's a great place to hang out. For typical beach people we enjoyed.

The Blue Cave Castle can't be beat for magic and romance. We were married there and have stayed there many times before and since. The penthouse, room 4 or room 10 are my recommendations.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
I was going to suggest Catcha but for a honeymoon on a budget .....Blue Cave Castle.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
Have met quite a few honeymoon couples at SamSara over the years & they were very pleased with the property & staff.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
Mirage is great option if you don't mind forgoing a restaurant and bar (not a big deal since there are a number good spots within easy walking distance). They are currently running a great special at $80 a night.
I would also consider Home Sweet Home. You can probably get a good deal on the Penthouse that time of year. The Penthouse at HSH is one of the most underrated rooms in Negril - with a large veranda that literally hangs over the cliffs. If not, the standard Seaview Deluxe rooms should have everything you need.

I like Samsara. I have seen negative reviews about the owner, but I like it. Good rates, good location, and you can take their free shuttle to their sister property, Legends, which is on an awesome spot on the beach. Attachment 38154Attachment 38155

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
I agree with Samsara. We were married there- honeymooned in the blue cottage over the sea. Nice room with indoor and outdoor shower- sliding glass doors open up to the deck and the view of the sea at night (at anytime actually) was breathtaking. Food, staff everything was amazing and reasonably priced but that was 2009.

I have been to Negril three times and actually, got married there - stayed at Nirvana, Home Sweet Home, Blue Cave Castle and Banana Shout. Visited Xtabi and Catcha a few different times so familiar with those properties as well. Catcha Gardens keeps catching my eye - they have an awesome rate and the place looks peaceful and serene. I think the couple have their heart set on Catcha but its just a tad over their budget -if you would recommend a comparable property on the cliffs what would it be?
Has BCC been renovated at all! - was there in 2003. I see they have a restaurant now too.
I know one thing, all this research has got me itching to start planning my own trip - I sure miss that magic of Negril!

I must have missed something because we stayed at samsara last November n were very disappointed. I lived up in Sav for 3 months with very little comforts n would stay there again before samsara:(

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
Have they remodeled HSH? I was there in 2002 and had the run of the property - we were the only ones there. It was nice but it didnt leave a lasting impression of a place I would recommend for their honeymoon. Perhaps they have upgraded since then?

No remodeling at the BCC, though they're supposed to have some renovations starting this year. Also, Teddy will be gone by September so no more restaurant, at least that's the word. We'll see. I still love the place, and hesitate to recommend it too much for that reason. Don't want my favorite room booked when we go!

If I'm not mistaken?september is as low season as you can get,I'd offer a couple of the places you mentioned the 70 or 80 bucks and see what happens...

HSH has definitely been remodeled since 2002. I'm not sure they had the pool back then, and if they had a restaurant I don't think it was the current structure that is there now. In addition, the entire resort was given a face lift about a year and a half ago. All of the rooms were repainted and given new fixtures - in addition to 2 new cliffside rooms being built. It looks pretty nice now, but still has a rustic feel. For the price range you mentioned, I think it's definitely a contender.

check out Catcha Gardens - small property, wonderful pool

I've stayed at Samsara three times and really love it...and you can take the shuttle to sister resort on the beach.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
I would think that privacy would be a concern on a honeymoon and maybe somewhere like the Westender could provide the seclusion and romantic setting that a newlywed couple would enjoy.

I 2nd the Blue Cave Castle!

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
I am Bias, we honeymooned at Catcha Falling Star. The least expensive rooms are 95 a night. I can't say the exact number of rooms on the property but maybe a couple hand fulls? The privacy at Catcha is a notch above the rest with little "love nest" spots located throughout the property. The restaurant is delicious and the lighting is very romantic at night. They played a lot of love songs at the bar when we were there, which i thought added to the experience. For the honeymoon it was nice to have to not leave the property for anything if we didn't want to. Spend the extra couple dollars at catcha, you won't regret it.
Catcha gardens has become our go to for a nice budget spot. If you are ok with not staying right on the water it might be great for you as well.
We have also stayed at Blue cave castle however like i said for the honeymoon it was nice to relax around the hotel with a restaurant, pool and bar onsite. The shade at BCC was a problem for me also, unfortunately the sun doesn't love me as much as I love it.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
Xtabi is our destination every year. Can't beat the tranquility and settings. Always get get garden side with pool. We will be there again in Nov
You won't be disappointed
We have stayed at both Samsara and Blue Cave but Xtabi is by far our first choice.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
The Mirage $80/night (tax in) special is phenomenal. Large NICE rooms, great AC, bed, fridge, in-room wifi, seaview balcony, staff... continental breakfast included. Great new seaview pool. ALL rooms are seaview and I believe there's only 12, it's like staying in a villa with amenities within 5 minute walk, Catcha, store, Tensing Pen next door, other restaurants. You're welcomed at Charela's beach including beach towels and great service. Can't recommend it enough for a quiet, private honeymoon with close access to everything else, and that price is perfect for them. You'll find others maybe for that price, but no where near the accommodations and view...from their room!
From my balcony at Mirage...

That's a good suggestion. We stayed there for the first time this past April, and they would definitely excel in that regard.

Re: Honeymoon on the Cliffs - Suggestions
Congratulations! Your time in Negril will be great no matter where you stay. Certainly, each spot offers something different.
I love Catcha for the delicious food; Xtabi for the traditional Jamaican breakfast and cottages on the cliffs (a couple are newly renovated); Samsara for the "hot but cute, " "tiny but fun" huts that overlook the water (I stayed in the yellow one by myself for one month a few years ago); the Mirage for the good rates (and pool but who wants that when you have the sea!).
Yes, I agree that Westender and Blue Moon are very romantic, but they are a bit more pricey and very much off the beating path. My brother and his wife rented the top floor of Blue Cave Castle and loved it for entertaining; but, I doubt that you will be doing much outside entertaining. If you want to enjoy the cliffs and pop in on the beach side every now and then, perhaps you may go for Mirage or Samsara which both have beach options. Wherever you decide to stay, be sure to negotiate your rate.
