Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
First trip to Negril is gonna be a short one. We will be staying at CCLP and want to both chill on the beach and also explore ... local markets, wetlands, waterfalls, mineral springs, Rastafarian culture ... so many things & places to see. Any and all opinions/suggestions are appreciated:
Long Bay Beach Park
Royal Palm Reserve
Green Island, Rhodes Mineral Springs & Beach
Mayfield Falls, working farm near Village of Pennycooke
Dr Scott's blue hole garden tour
Abba Jahnehol's Place
Negril Hills
Local Markets
Other places ....
If you could only pick two, what would they be?

did Royal Palm Reserve, just ok, as a repeat tourist i would recommend a catamaran cruise with RED STRIPE catamaran, and Seastar for a sat nite show, i have heard good things abt Rhodes Hall, soon come

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
jamaicarob - I like both suggestions. we should be arriving early evening on Saturday and thought about Seastar for our first night, will definitely plan on that since we now have an endorsement. also love the idea of a catamaran cruise and think I recall seeing that you can find the lady from RED STRIPE on the beach wearing a large, floppy hat???

Red stripe tours are the best. Myrna is great and very friendly. Can't miss her with her big hat!

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
I would recommend a glass bottom boat to the reef for snorkeling then lunch on Booby Cay after.
Then this with the Lux-Car folks.

Hi Nancy, from a fellow Tennessean! How short is your short trip? CCLP is a great choice, it is where we stay, and is right in the middle of Long Beach, so you can walk on the beach for a couple miles in either direction. Walking the beach is an adventure in itself, with lots of other bars and restaurants and craft stands along the way. If your "short" trip is a week or less, these are my recommendations for things to do:
One Love Bar Crawl with Lenbert is a MUST DO, you will visit places on the West End you might not see on your own. Email Lenbert at bananaznegril@hotmail.com and he will confirm for you. He runs the bus Wednesday, Friday, and I think sometimes on Sunday, and will pick you up in front of CCLP. If your driver from the airport is lending you a phone, you can call Lenbert at 876-874 6631, but this bus tour is very popular, so best to email in advance. And it is free, just be sure to tip Lenbert.
Seastar Inn on Saturday night. Again, they will pick you up and return you to CCLP. Call them Saturday morning for pickup, 876-957-0553.
If you like to snorkel, highly recommend Vincent. He picked us up at CCLP, then took us out to the reef. Even though snorkeling there is not the best, Vincent and his mate made it interesting. Even if you don't have your own mask and snorkel, he supplies whatever you need, including life vest and fins. 876 473 6910 , we called him a day or two before we wanted to go.
I hope you enjoy Negril as much as we do! You'll be back, so save some adventures for your next visit!

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
Two more must do's, since you're staying at CCLP: Norman's patties for a snack, Niah's patties for lunch and/or snack. Norman walks the beach with his bicycle and cardboard box of patties, he always stops at CCLP. You have to walk to Niah's, but it isn't very far from CCLP. As you face the water, walk to your left, towards town. Niah's is in Wayz Park, right before Tony's Hut. If Niah doesn't seem to be around, ask at Tony's, he may be there, or they can probably find him. Enjoy!!

liznash - my son is in Nashville, if that's where you are. What excites me the most about Negril is seeing that all the boardies return year after year. It's gotta be a wonderful, magical place. I'm looking forward to my short 4 night visit, with hopefully many more longer visits to follow.

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
For me any amount of time in Negril is wonderful but time is different there. The bar crawl will let you experience the west end which is totally different from the beach and a must do. There is so much to experience on the beach walking or sitting that you won't need much more. You can explore or sit, let sand gravity kick in and let everything come to you. And I do mean everything, food, drink or anything else you can want or need. You are in a great location on the beach and appear to be in the perfect frame of mind. Have a wonderful 1st of hopefully many visits.

I would suggest a glass bottom boat ride to the reef for snorkeling then lunch on Booby Cay after even if your are a vegetarian, this a great way to enjoy yourself with friends. Check out SUNBABY BOAT!

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
Seastar is a must !!! The buffet and show are both excellent and there is a great crowd of folks there to interact with. I have never gone to Mayfield Falls but everyone i know that has raves about getting back in the interior of the Island to see that slower paced life away from the Beach and it is pretty close so you do not need to lose a whole day there which you would going to Pelican bar or Black River. Just go with the flow !

Sea star, One Love Pub crawl is a must. There are several patty men on the beach. All are good.

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
I visited the Royal Palm Reserve in 2010 but I was under the impression it was no longer open to the public. If that is still on your list I suggest double check before heading out there.
Does anyone have more up to date info? I would l love to hear it was back open, and I would certainly go back

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
one love pub crawl is the best recommnedation yet....for a short 4 day trip, you will get enuff action from the walk on the beach from cclp....do the pub crawl for a different view from 6-7 places on the cliffs...and do seastar sat night for some live reggae....save the longer excursions for a longer trip....we will also be there a on a pub crawl with binn-donna from above post....have a great time....

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
groove16 - read your trip reports. we will look into using Alfred or Kingsley for airport transport. Also, read recommendation somewhere for Jinx. I had thought about bringing school supplies or clothing to give back to the community, any idea of their specific needs or where we could take our donation? We've decided to do seastar on Saturday and i'll be emailing Lenbert to see if we can get in on Sunday's pub crawl. thanks!

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
Just plan to get to the beach, which you have done just let the vibe lead you.

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
Party starts in t-minus 20 days, lets all get on the bar crawl bus on 11/23,it is sure to be a great time.

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
Alfred is no longer with us...Kingsley has never let us down....Seastar is a great start to see a reggae show, and a good variety of food...Lenbert is the best...if u could only do ONE thing, the pub crawl is it...and u dont have to drink to enjoy it...just a great way to see lots of places.....u really have a short stay, just walk the beach....or jsut lay there....things will find you....and although we have never been there, a church acrocc the street from cclp will take your donations and get them to the ones that need it....
welcome to the board....u can get most of your questiins answered here...

Re: Newbi ... will be there in 24 days, help wanted
We have also used Kingsley, he is very reliable. He will lend you a phone if you want one, just let him know in advance. In case Kingsley is not available, another reliable, and highly recommended driver on TA, is Ashton Pitt. His email is artconcepent.tours@yahoo.com or he can be reached via his Facebook page Ashton E. Pitt.
Agree with groove16's suggestions. The church across the street from CCLP is Mary Gate of Heaven, ask for Father Jim. The church number is 876-957-4900. We bring backpacks filled with school supplies, last year we also brought children's socks and underwear.
Hope you have a wonderful vacation! We start planning our next trip while we are still in Negril:cool:
