Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
Did you get a paper receipt that shows you didn't get the cash?
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
I had that happen to me a ..briefly panicked but it did get corrected...I am now paranoid about using the cash machine there and will avoid it at all costs to avoid the hassle and concern..
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
three years ago at this time, i travelled through jamaica and tried taking out my daily limit at black river.
the machine did its thing like normally but spit out NO money.
no slip . . . machine out of paper . . .
never recouped that money . . . had no receipt to show anything.
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(

Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
YES I have had this happen, with a positive result. TRUE, you will have to wait a couple days to see if the transaction reverses itself, because usually it does. (But good that you reported it, you want to establish the authority of your claim.) When it happened to me I contacted NCB (right there while I was at the ATM) and they said if the transaction doesn't reverse, I should contact my bank and have them write NCB verifying that I did not get the money back. My bank (Schwab) had no problem doing this. NCB probably reviewed transactions on there end to verify and, the funds were returned to me.
When you got the first message you maybe should have called your bank (on the card) and checked on it. Your bank may have put a hold on the actual funds, even tho the receipt showed dispensed. I feel 95% that all will be well tomorrow or in the next few days.
Another positive story on the topic, at the bank (NCB) yesterday I observed a young Jamaican come in with the same complaint. The CSR was able to look in his account, asked him questions, filled out a report, went and got approval for it and told him it should be returned to his account in a couple days (she 1st said to watch it a couple days but the days had already passed). >>> And then one of those delights of Jamaica that charm my very soul happened, even tho it had taken a long time to serve him, and the bank was extremely busy and she had several customers coming and going at the counter (who she helped while waiting for the data to come up), at the end she looked directly to his eyes, addressed him by name, said something reassuring or apologetic for the problem and sincerely asked if there was anything else she could do for him that afternoon. Lovely Jamaican manners, so gracious. I was standing next to him and felt the blessing of her attention on him, and any angst I had about getting through evaporated. She completed my business just as thoroughly and I left feeling so good.

Jitterbug (Hi!), did you ever contact the banks about it? Your bank transactions are as good as the ATM receipt (which probably would have showed the money was dispensed, anyway).

Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
Two years ago a power outage mid transaction, machine by hilo ate my card and said cash was received. I tried to get card back but because it was out of country card they would not return or give me cash. Called bank of Montreal and cash had been removed from my acct. Notified bank in Negril and they also told me it would be returned......took about a week but it was returned. Hope it works out as well for you.
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
Yep but long time ago , at least 3 or 4 years ago. Good out come as others but mine took longer and was with NCB.
Next to last day on trip, a sunday, atm ate my card and no money issued , requested approx $200 , went back to Rondel checked bank account and sure enough account debited , printed off transaction to show NCB next morning before we left.
Next morning Rondel called bank and vouched for us and said we were on our way to request help, bank teller not helpful unfortunately and told us tourists try to scam them all the time, paid no attention my print out from my account. Like usual instead of acting reasonable, I blew my stack and responded totally inappropriately. As I was asked to leave they told me they would mail my card back to our bank if they did find it in machine.
Called my credit union to explain on way to airport and by time we got home our account was reimbursed because fraud protection on our accounts. Once that happened to be honest forgot all about it. Approx few months later noticed an unexplained credit again for same amount and when I contacted credit union they told us that NCB finally acknowledged the mistake and issued credit , so actually got paid twice.
So my opinion is that sooner or later you will be reimbursed, sucks to wait tho, sorry for you.

ps..... i did return the extra payment, you know karma and all ....... irie
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
I laud those who have the courage to use debit cards. I just can't bring myself to trust them, and I have no really rational reason why. I will say though, that I was with my son a few years back... he was visiting for Christmas, lives in NC... and the Atm he was making a $100 withdrawal from gave him five $5 dollar bills, and a receipt for $100. Obviously human error on the part of whoever stocked the Atm. He went inside to complain and of course found out a couple things... he wasn't alone, and he'd have to wait for the problem to "resolve itself" which is a concept I do not understand.
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
One or 2 years ago, the machine 'hesitated' while it was dispensing the cash. I was concerned but not able to examine the money right then. When I counted it out in my room I found an extra $200 jmd in the midst of 1,000 bills ... the machine must have recognized the wrong bills, and corrected itself.
Tip: come with 2 ATM Debit cards, so you have a backup if any problem.
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
I just checked - for about the 50th time - and the money has been restored to my account! Thanks to everyone for the reassurance that this would really
"correct itself", I was definitely not feeling very optimistic! We always bring debit cards from 2 different accounts thank goodness. Another thing I noticed is that the NCB bank fee is $1 US while the Scotiabank fee is 4.75 - not that I needed another reason to stay away from the Scotiabank ATMs after the last stressful days:)
Re: ATM Problem - oh no:(
Glad you got to see that the banking system is well regulated and dependable
It's one of the many reasons I've reinvested ........
