Restaurant update request
Greetings from Minnesota! We are excited to be returning to Negril in February. It's been 2 years since we were in paradise and hoped that some of you regulars might give us some updates on good restaurants, shuttle recommendations and just anything you'd like to tell us! We can't wait to be back to the gorgeous beaches, wonderful people and spectacular food!
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Cat & Chief

Re: Restaurant update request
Hey Barnsville people where have you been in negril there are lots of good places. Beach or westend
-
Re: Restaurant update request
We usually start at kuyaba and finish our trip there too. Charela is great. Ivans on the cliffs is an excellant choice. Best in the West for jerk. Just to name a few that we love.

Re: Restaurant update request
Check out Ossie's Top Taste aka Miss Madge's. It's across the beach road from Ossie's Jerk Center (which is also very good). Miss Madge serves some of the best Red Snapper, King Fish and Chicken Chop Suey plus her famous coconut pie. Great food good value served by a great Jamaican family. You won't be disappointed.

Re: Restaurant update request
I'd like to get a word in for Seastar Inn on the deep west end. Seastar will come to your hotel and pick you up for dinner or the Saturday night buffet and entertainment; and then drop you off after the evening is over.
But any night is a great night to have dinner at Seastar. Their menu and prices are right there on their web site and the food is delicious, expertly prepared and the service is excellent.
Seastar operates a clean, quality restaurant and the food is second to none in Negril.
Again; check the on-line menu and enjoy.

Re: Restaurant update request
Just had the best dinner tonight at Sunset after Dark on the cliffs....a likkle past Canoe. Truly, the best since Dec. 14th arrival. Brandied snapper with rice/peas and callaloo was superb. Seafood pasta with garlic bread was the other entree. Both got 3 thumbs up along with the conch appetizer. Don
t forget to try Blue Mahoe at the Spa Resort on the cliffs. Great jerk at the Corner Bar also called the Seaview which is at the corner before the Chiny Man Store.
Hard to get a bad meal pon da cliffs!

Re: Restaurant update request
We have really liked Swordfish for seafood ,Blue Mahoe for a nice romantic nite , Sing Yu Springroll for a healthy dinner (on the street rite outside Barb b Barn ), Ciao for Italian ,Hungry Lion for good food and vibe.

Re: Restaurant update request
Good morning,
The two most memorable places are Catch a Falling Star and The German Bar. There was an Italian restaurant that had just opened, but we don't recall the name. Everyone replied with lots of suggestions, so we're very excited. We're staying at Coco La Palm on the beach, but we just take a taxi each night to someplace different, so we're not opposed to leaving our little area. We'll take any thoughts you have!
-
Re: Restaurant update request
When will you be at Coco La Palm?
-
Re: Restaurant update request
We ate twice at Sunset After Dark in dec. both times great brandy snapper and lobster. Patrick a great chef
-
Re: Restaurant update request
I would try Red Dragon & Collettes bar , Jenny's on the west end, Ahh Bees, Three Dives , when in February are you going?
-
Re: Restaurant update request
Cat, Don't forget that most Restaurants will cover at least one way taxi. These are my bests. *No $ restriction and best ambiance (romantic) ...Ivan's at Catcha. *Best local and value...Swordfish & ChickenLavish.*Eclectic ....Jus Natural...*Best Jerk (non-roadside) ....3Dives & DaBar. *Burger....ah bees *pizza (beach) Chance(cliffs) Ciao Jamaica. *Coffee...CafeGoa....*Ambiance on the beach.....Kuyaba* That is my short list. There are so many mom & pop restaurants that serve wonderful food that I can't recommend just one. Don't be afraid to sit down and check out their menus. I have never had a bad meal in Negril.
If you've never been to Saturday Seastar it's worth one visit. Good buffet and show with transport. For a good lunch and snorkelling pick a calm day and head to Xtabis bar cliffside. Run a tab and hang out at their deck and swim snorkel for free. Great lunch with a view. If you are tired and want to stay close, cross the street and sit at the Tiki bar at Best in the West for chicken and people watching. I just gained ten pounds thinking about this topic. I'll stop now! Enjoy

Re: Restaurant update request
So many great eateries. My favourites are the local Mom & Pop places.
Cliffs:
Ahh Bees - Best burger
Sharks - Great pan fried fish etc.
Eddies Debar - Grilled Lobster and jerk chicken. Both among the best you'll find.
3 Dives - Known for it's jerk chicken but also serves some great seafood.
Ivan's (catcha falling star)- Great food and atmoshpere
Sips and Bites
Chicken Lavish
German Bar
LTU Pub
Beach:
Kuyaba
Best in the West
Aunties Thrill Corner
Rainbow Arch
Niah's Kitchen - Lunch
Jucies
Off the beaten path:
Juicy J's - Behind Scotia Bank
Sweet Spice - Towards the Police Station on the road to Sav Lamar.
Red Dragon - Be there early afternoon or the famous jerk pork is sold out.
and so many other worthy spots. The locals definitely know. For good yardie food, keep an eye on the beach road at noon and watch where all the taxis and locals are eating and picking up food. The busy places are a sure bet. Don't overlook the soup stands and barrel chicken guys like Step-Aside, Smokey Joe's or Simple to name a few.

Re: Restaurant update request
On the West End. LTU Seaside - great food. Rock House, Xtabi, Ivans, Eddie's de Bar, 3 Dives, Ciao Jamaica (across the road from Samsara), the German Bar and don't forget Hidaway eatery at Blue Cave Castle. So many more smaller places. These are some of the best for a nice sit down dinner. I'm hungry!!
-
Re: Restaurant update request
I realize that seastar is a favorite of many here, but the location and general atmosphere is mediocre IMHO compared to so many other beach and cliff restaurants.
Examples would be LTU, Xtabi, Charela, even chicken lavish

Re: Restaurant update request
Hungry Lion is must for me every trip, they are only open for dinner, great atmosphere and vibe, seafood and vegan dishes. my absolute favorites are the vegetarian shepherd's pie and fresh watermelon juice. Check out their facebook page.

Re: Restaurant update request
Sitting in club mobay now waiting to depart.
Best eats this trip-
Norma's (on beach for dinner), Quality's Seafood (across from Canoe - best dinner of the trip!), Jus Natural (lunch -new location), Swordfish (dinner), Tensing Pen Lodge (dinner), Miss Madge's (dinner), Ivan's (lunch and dinner), Sun Beach (several lunches), Hungry Lion (first time there- yum), Red Dragon (early dinner). Best jerk of the trip- hands down Bourbon Beach. Three meals there!!!!
Had some disappointing meals but will not post as it might have been an off day for the restaurants.
-
Re: Restaurant update request
This year, I tried two places that were new for me, one of which has been around for ages.
Bourbon Beach had the best jerk chicken I have ever tasted. I'm sure others have their favorites, but good god, I was knocked over by how good that chicken was. The fellow we went with ate a BOWL of their sauce with his chicken (I barely got through the shot glass it is served with). It was so good, I may stop there for take out before the hotel in the next trip, and arrive at check in covered in sauce.
Second, we went to Murphys west end. Amazingly inexepensive, great host, and really, really good food. For a party of four, dinner was under $80.
Tensing Pen lodge has been mentioned, we stay there, so I am of course partial to their cooking. They have someone who will pick you up, and a new addition this year to their menu. Sushi.
It seems like every year we go, we find someplace new that exceeds the previous year.

Re: Restaurant update request
Thanks W.G.!
Quality Seafoods. That's a new one for me. Always good to hear which places are on top of their game. Question.. Where is Miss Madge's?

Miss Madge's is across from Ossies Jerk on the beach road. Far side of the road from the cliffs. Ossies is the morass side, Madge's is beach side (but on the road-do not think you see it when on beach). It is adjacent to Donaldsons.

Re: Restaurant update request
We have been going to Sunset after Dark since Chef Patrick opened up 4 years ago..I swear he has the best Fish (snapper) And Chips and the Burgers are Legend - 'Wait for it' = Dary ! You always seem to take some away because you cannot finish the portions you get .Also check out Keney's Chinese Food (At Errols next to Travellers And NBCC) on the Beach. Also big servings of great Chinese food and lots of people coming in & getting Take out or Delivery..Great Stuff !

Re: Restaurant update request
Hello all,
We are going to be there the last week of February...so excited! It will be so nice to get out of this frozen tundra we're living in. There are so many great suggestions here, we really appreciate it.
I have more questions if anyone has time...
Our flight doesn't get in till around 4:30 on Saturday. Does anyone know if Mega Mart will still be open? On our last trip we had our taxi service stop for booze, food, coolers, etc., and hope to do that again.
Somewhere on this website, I saw someone mention tipping the guards at your resort. (We're staying at Coco La Palm). Is that something you all do? Of course we leave tips for room cleanings, at restaurants and cabs, but I never thought of that.
Is there an evening event we should go to? (We'll just be getting in on Saturday, so probably not that night.) On our last trip, we just went out to dinner, had a few drinks and hit the sack because we were tired from being on the beach all day. I'd like to know if there's somewhere we should go that has dancing!
Thanks for all your suggestions!

Re: Restaurant update request
Should be open. I stop every year on Sat usually around 4 ish. If you are on the beach and you see the big yellow balcony stop for drinks with some fellow minnesotan's will be there Feb 19 - Mar 7
-
Re: Restaurant update request
Mega Mart is now open 24/7
-
Re: Restaurant update request
Cat & Chief, I thought CocoLaPalm furnished transportation? Going there for the first time and transportation is included. Do you not use it? If you do, how hard is it to get the driver to stop at places like MegaMart or to get a phone?
-
Re: Restaurant update request
Any private driver will stop anywhere you want. Some will give you use of a phone, some require a deposit for that and you usually have to buy your own minutes.
-
Re: Restaurant update request
We have a week left before we head for warmer weather. Arrive Feb. 21, staying at Coco La Palm. Any thoughts are appreciated!
-
Re: Restaurant update request
Looks like you guys will get there a few days ahead of us. We leave Saturday. Can you tell me what you liked about any of these restaurants?
