Re: Southwest Flight info
I have a wanna getaway fare for our flights tomorrow, SAT to MBJ for just less than $500 each roundtrip. Those prices you posted are one way most likely.
Re: Southwest Flight info
Yes one way. Less than 500 round trip~~ YIPPIE~~
Re: Southwest Flight info
Keep checking Southwest on a daily basis. I originally booked RT from Nashville, 4/15-4/29, for $476 per person. I have since rebooked twice since the fares went down, saving $104 per person. $372 RT is the lowest fare we've ever booked for that time of the year. Southwest does not charge to rebook, we will just use our credit for a future flight. Love Southwest!
Re: Southwest Flight info
Wanna Getaway are just their advance purchase tickets, they don't issue refunds with those if you don't use them but put the $$amount in your Rapid Rewards account for future purchases. Anytime are refundable and Biz Select gets you boarded in the 1st 15 places.. Book Getaways and pay the small fee for the Early Bird check in. I fly SW all the time. Set up a Rapid Rewards Account too in order to earn free flights
Re: Southwest Flight info
Only downside to Southwest is you don't get to choose your seat ahead of time. With the Wanna Get Away fare, you have to check in for your flight EXACTLY 24 hours before so you can get a decent group for boarding. Or you can pay the additional $12.50 and and usually be assured at least B group boarding. We do that most of the time for our return trip so we don't have to worry about it.

Re: Southwest Flight info
Jim and Donna. We are flying out of Midway next Saturday (24th). We booked within a few days of Southwest opening up the January dates and times (8/12/2014). We paid $651.00 for both of us, direct to Mobay. Couldn't be happier. We used to fly out of St. Louis on Frontier but cost was up to $1550.00 for both of us. We are in SE Iowa so about 3.5 hours to either airport. This will be out first on Southwest and we spent the money for early bird check in, on a tip from a regular SW flier.
Re: Southwest Flight info
If you don't get the "A" category seating, you can still get good seats in the "B" category also. :)
Re: Southwest Flight info
I book Southwest and cheapest fares every time I can. Seat selection is not really a big deal.... Grab 1, close your eyes and relax, in a few hours you are in Jamaica!!:)
Re: Southwest Flight info
Here's a real tip if you have good credit and pay off your CC every month.
The SW Visa Premier card costs 69 for the first year. If you spend 3K in the first 90 days you get 50,000 points.
For me from Orlando to MBJ round trip is 10,000 points on the off days. Even got the last trip for 7,500 points.
You still have to pay the tax which is 106 per ticket. For me at the end of the the day I got 4 round trips at 134.00 per trip
When you visit the the SW site you can get the price in points if you choose.
Check it out. It might work for you.
About paying it off every month:
Sooner or later (sooner in my case) you use up your points Time to dump that card and move on to the next bonus card.
Barklay Arrival Preferred:
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Capital One Elite (or something like that)
This can be done indefinitely IF YOU PAY OFF EVERY MONTH
The CC companies call us "freeloaders"
Re: Southwest Flight info
Southwest is the only non stop option for us in the Baltimore area. I used to love flying Air Tran until Southwest took over because I prefer choosing my seat in advance. We would always upgrade with points to business class on the Jamaica flights. Made it a nice way to start the trip! Price-wise, Southwest is the cheapest option for us as well. As CaptainD said, the credit card makes it even cheaper with reward points!
Re: Southwest Flight info
We booked through Southwest, but I had to do it in a convoluted way.
I wanted
Birmingham > Orlando > Montego Bay
Montego Bay > Orlando > Birmingham
I got
Birmgham > Orlando > Montego Bay
Montego Bay > Maryland > Birmingham (add 7 hours travel time to our return trip)
But when I was just looking at trips between Orlando and Montego Bay there was definitely a return flight at the time we wanted.
So I ordered:
Birmingham > Orlando
Orlando > Birmingham
then separately ordered
Orlando > Montego Bay
Montego Bay > Orlando
And the flights were actually cheaper on the way back.
I later got an email from Southwest telling me that I could not check my luggage, which didn't matter anyway because we were planning to do carryon only.
I think for four of us it was all Wanna Get Away prices and rang in right under $1800. So about $450 each.
Now looking from Birmingham to Maryland to Montego Bay today, it's $376 each round trip, but I do not want that extra travel time. Plus we are meeting up with my family in Orlando and riding the same plane to Montego Bay.
