Wanna talk about Coco.....
I have been too Negril 11 times in ten years or so. First time at beaches and the next 9 at Coco, the last time we tried travellers. For our next reach we were planning on going back too Coco as its worth a few extra dollars because of the great location. However I have read some of the reviews on another web site and it seems that the new rooms are not a big hit, no problem as I would rather stay on the old part anyway. But one review said because of the extra rooms the beach is more crowded then they had ever seen it with no room and the service and the food was slower then ever with food coming out half cooked and that getting towels was next too impossible after 10 am. I generally dont pay much attention too just one review but there were actually a couple of them that were less then positive. I love the Coco la Palm but it seems as if the added rooms may have cut the overall quality of the resort. Was kinda wondering if anybody who has stayed there can offer any insite into this.....much respect, onthecorner

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
With the new rooms just becoming available I am sure there are issues that need to be addressed. This is a quality resort with top of the line management and employees. The additional guest rooms will require additional employees who need to be trained. With time I am sure everything will be worked out.
We are staying at CCLP in mid April and will file trip reports on the popular issues of the day: who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, route taxis, who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, amount of sand on the beach, who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, exchange rates, who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, favorite meals, who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, higglers on the beach, who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes, cliffs vs beach, and of course the most frequently asked question of who has the coldest cheapest Red Stripes

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Appreciate the posts.
Leaning towards Coco in June. Need two rooms close together. Coco sent an email with two Superior rooms with Queen beds. Not sure where on the resort they are located???
Any input from Coco Veterans with recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks,
VVHT

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
hi VVHT, the superior rooms are downstairs rooms in the old section.....actually pretty nice rooms with a little covered patios
hi Captian Oil, I sure hope you are right, always considered cclp very underrated as a three star resort and one of the best kept secrets on seven mile. Look forward too your trip report when you get back. BTW if you have a chance can you find out where the cheapest red stripes are at....lol

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
onthecorner,
Thanks for the quick response. Are they closer to the beach or the road?
Thanks,
VVHT

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
they are in both locations, they are the downstairs rooms that kinda surround the pool area in the middle

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
I also worried about the beach issue with more rooms now.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
We will be there mid-Feb. so we'll find out. We've been staying there since the first year it opened. The restaurant was built before the rooms opened and we happened upon it for a cup of coffee early one morning ... stayed there on the next Negril trip and the rest is history!

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
VVHT ...
Walked by to check it out yesterday afternoon, prime time, and there was plenty of room on the beach... Even a large stack of loungers not being used... Not staying there this reach, but back first 2 weeks of March.. I really don't think beach overcrowding will be an issue....

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
When we were in Negril at Christmas/NY the beach at Coco was very crowded compared to last year. Can't comment on the service etc as we weren't staying there, but last year we did and it was slow at that time as well. We love Coco, but I don't see us staying there again during busy season, too much $$$ for what they have to offer at that time of year. I've heard talk of renovating the existing rooms, so that would probably help...
VVHT - the superior rooms are all ground floor, they are the only ones with the covered patios (other than the oceanfront rooms). The new 1st & 2nd floor rooms are deluxe rooms and the 3rd floor ones are Coco Suites. They don't seem to show on their website yet...

onthecorner, when do you plan on staying at CCLP? If you are staying during the slow season, then it's likely the crowds won't be a problem. It looks like most of the negative reviews are coming from people who have stayed there recently, at the peak of the busy season. Also, as others have said, the additional rooms are a new thing, so I'm sure they are experiencing growing pains.

You will have No Worries at CoCo~~

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
We have stayed at coco almost every year for 15 yrs. we decided to change to charela this year because the beach has been more and more crowded each year and knowing they added rooms made the decision easy. Can't wait 2 weeks tomorrow.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Mtig, please report back after your stay at Charela. We've been staying at Coco for five years but I've considered looking elsewhere. We'll be back at Coco in May, but I like to hear others' thoughts on nearby places. I love that stretch of beach right there.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Mtig - you'll love Charela. We stayed there for the first time over Christmas/NY and loved it - we're already booked to go back for Christmas/NY 2015-2016. It never felt crowded on the beach, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much shade was provided by the palm trees; we didn't miss our favourite almond tree at Coco like I thought we would. The staff at Charela are exceptional, they go above and beyond, even if they've never seen you before. Any questions, I'll be happy to answer if I can.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Good to hear 2nuts. We have been going to charela to have breakfast or dinner a few times each year and really love it. The beach doesn't seem so crowded and the staff is great. Not sure you can go wrong anywhere in that stretch of beach. Sher I will surely post.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Here now. It's very busy but plenty of chairs and room on the beach. Didn't see the new rooms, but as far as I can tell, it's a corridor with doors and no outside area. People say they are nice, we started in the old part and prefer these rooms. Service is fine, we "dine around" mostly.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Miss G's sister and hubby spent five night in the Coco Villa. Very nice. Beach was not crowded and the service was excellent.
Only issue we had was that every time we came to visit for the day we had to be checked in personally by one of them, present ID every day and wear a wrist band. However if you walked in from the beach no check whatsoever.???????
And no chance of Linston getting in at all!

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Tight controls/annoying controls from street but nothing from beach to me suggests incompetence and waste of everyone's time. No Linston access is also a turn off for me. I guess I am annoyed easily and enough to stay away from there. Looks nice but....

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
We stayed at CCLP for the first time over New Years for 3 nights. We like the smaller boutique hotels. I never book with a consolidater in Negril. I did this time , big mistake. Found out 3 weeks before Christmas we didn't have a room for 4 nights. Thank goodness CCLP said they had a room . Our room was pricey, no balcony or sitting area, basic room. We didn't mind we spend our time outside. Way to much money though for the room even over the holidays. Food was Great, good. I didn't think service was slow . The staff was great. The beach was crowded, but nothing terrible. The resort is beautiful. I wouldn't stay here again because we just like small places . There were lots of well behaved kids, lots of families. We like smaller less people. We will try Charela, Firefly or Idle. This area of the beach is beautiful though.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
Type O above it was 3 nights.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
The new BLOCK of rooms does nothing to add to the beauty of the area....They tried to get too much out of the small area and built a block that is not inviting. It is not appealing at all...Looks like a hotel 6 wing..

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
We just got back from our stay at charela. As I stated in an earlier post, we decided to switch because the beach seemed to be getting way too packed. We are sooooo happy to make the switch. Coco's beach was packed, like never before. I have to agree that the addition is not so appealing to look at either.

Re: Wanna talk about Coco.....
No Linston access is also a turnoff for me . Will stay away from that place.
