Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
It snowed 7 feet in 48 hrs here in New York in November and after being stuck at home for 5 days I fell in love while researching Negril. Unfortunately, I found this forum too late and already jumped the gun and booked my trip. Fortunately, after an exhausting winter my trip is right around the corner. After reading nightly on this forum for the past week it sounds like it would have made more sense to stay further down the beach being that I am traveling solo and looking to meet other solo travelers / couples (cannot really see myself enjoying partying (too hard) with vacationing families and their children). I am staying at the Club RIU but do NOT intend on sitting pool side much at all. I want to fully experience the best of what Negril (Seven Mile Beach / West End / Cliffs) has to offer daily. I need you good people to point me in the right direction and if any of ya out there want to meet for drinks…their on me!
How would you Negril Vets best spend five days in my situation?
Geoff

Re: Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
We are beach people so I would take a cab to Cosmos (great starting spot) grab a red stripe and head south on the beach toward the river and town center. First you will pass through the AIs and Margaritaville and then the magic starts. You will find the spot or spots that are right for you. Forgot to mention you need to keep stopping for your favorite beverage to stay hydrated. I'll let the cliff dwellers speak about the west end. We find it difficult to navigate by foot and normally cab it to a specific destination. We love the west end for sunsets and dinner. You do have the office of nature near you. Make sure you try it out!

When you're walking the beach, make sure you stop by Alfred's Ocean Palace (about 1 km from town). Great crowd, friendly bartenders, and the best rum punch in Negril!
Also, they have live music Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday nights!

Re: Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
a group of five of us 30-somethings are on the pub crawl on monday the 16th, hoping its somewhat full as we like to mingle, but definitely looking forward to it. We rented a house near cclp and will be out on the beach most days I'm guessing in that area. you can reach to lenbert about the pub crawl here: bananaznegril@hotmail. com and he was pretty prompt with his response

Re: Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
Drifters Bar, live music Wed, Fri and Sunday afternoons 3-7. Great rum punch, 2 for $400j, $4 US. I went solo in January and had the BEST time anywhere in Negril in 5 trips. Don't miss it! It's on the beach, just a bit south of Grand Pineapple. There's a little store on the road (one mile), head back towards the beach through the parking lot and there it is. Also love happy hour at Yellow Bird, same area, 2 for one drinks $400j, $4 US, 9-6 daily. Best dirty bananas and papaya margaritas on the beach.

geoff, you don't even know what awaits you. I can always tell when a first timer is going to have the life changing experience. There's a reason the Jamaica/Negril message boards are so active. Get to the main beach and go with the flow. Hook up with some of the boardies that are going to be there and cut the learning curve way down. Keep your senses and have the time of your life. And please share pics and thoughts of your trip with us sometime after your return.

Re: Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
Margaritaville is a good place to be dropped off by a cab. Easy access to the beach and one of the nicest sections.
Just walk through to the front and as you face the ocean hang a left and start walking. From there down is all the entertainment you'll need for a great day walkin the beach. Just stop and take it in as you wish and party on!
The downloadable Negril map would really help you find points of interest. Hopefully someone can provide you a link to download it.
Bourbon Beach for Jerk Chicken and Red dragon for the best Jerk Pork. (Ask a driver and take a cab its away from the beach.)

Re: Feb 18-23 Solo Wanderer
Keep USD$5 in your hat for the cab back to RIU!

You may already have this, it's invaluable:
http://media.tripod.lycos.com/2567851/2007898.pdf
I printed off beach and cliff pages on legal paper (take along with you) and saved to my iPhone and iPad. Have referred to it many, many times.
