We are getting married in may, and the plan is go somewhere else on the island for 4-5 days after the wedding to get away. Then perhaps go back to negril for the last few nights. Any good suggestions?

The Jamaica Inn in Ochi, Not cheap.
Cap
Try Treasure Beach, I like Sunset Resort & Villas (Kory South owner). Two doors down from Jakes

Plenty to do over that way and not too far from Negril. Plenty of other great locations around the island but depends on how many hours you want to spend in a car, taxi, transport?????
I would try Port Antonio . We stayed at Norse Point villa and it was awesome

Stayed at the Jamaica Inn and absolutely loved it there....but it is a bit on the formal side...very unlike Negril.
We've sent Rob's best friend on his honeymoon to the Great Huts in Port Antonio and they LOVED it...we also adore the property...best Boston style jerk chicken at the top of the road.
I think this property would suite the two of you very well...that comment was the real estate sales person coming out of me...:)
Jakes in TB is very nice
norse point or jamaica inn is wonderful. sunset resort not so much. it's outdated and on the bare side.
kanopi house, or geejam in porty is also lovely . . . mockingbird . . . all great selections . . . $$$$
Thank you everyone, I will spend some time researching!
strawberry hill kingston
For a honeymoon treat, go to Iberostar Grand. This is the most luxurious informal resort in Jamaica. The food, drink and service are outstanding and the pools have quite areas while also having a rocking swim up bar. You can get the Negril experience after your Iberostar Grand visit. Shop for a good rate. I have stayed at Strawberry Hill and enjoyed the cool air and the views but the place has seen better days and the food and service leave a lot to be desired especially at the price. Jamaica Inn is for a very quite and formal vacation. Very pricey and you may be there with some very pretentious people. GeeJam is just too expensive with a beach across the road. Very interesting concept though. Treasure beach is a quite Negril. There is a time when an AI such as Iberostar Grand is the best choice especially when you can follow up with Negril.
I know it is very close to Negril but Matt and I did 4 days out at Rhodes Hall for our honeymoon and loved every second of it. So peaceful and it really feels like a whole different world from Negril. We stayed in the Orange suite and brought some of our own groceries and beverages for when we just wanted to be off on our own. Otherwise the restaurant on site is great and you are a hop skip and jump away from half moon for day trips. I bet you guys are getting excited!!!! Congrats again.

It all depends on how far from Negril you want to travel, how much breads you want to spend and what adventures you want to explore. Over in the Blue Mountains behind Kingston there are some basic, meager and roots opportunities (Whitfield Hall, base of Blue Mountain Peak) http://www.whitfieldhall.com/
, Holywell Park http://www.jamaicans.com/tourist/art...-jamaica.shtml
Sure Strawberry Hill is nice but (Island Outpost properties are between $300-$1000 per night)
Mandeville Area is pretty nice too.
Bath Mineral Springs (eternal) http://www.explorejamaica.com.jm/bat...al-spring.html
The Port Antonio to Morant Bay drive around the eastern tip of the island is very cool too, very different.
Kingston, has a bad rap but actually a great city / place too. Plenty of high end hotels if you want, nice visit to Port Royal.
Junction Road: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDe-c2eWAXg between Kingston and Annotto Bay (used to be the A-3 road)
So your options are many. All comes down to what you are seeking and how far you want to travel. Driving on the left across Jamaica and back can be challanging!!
JitterBug: You are right about Sunset Villas being outdated and bare but as the saying goes, "Location, Location, Location".
Sunset Dream 1, One king + 1 Twin bedroom with AC and cable TV. I don't need / want TV but some do.
Full Kitchen with eating bar / island. A modest bathroom and a really nice veranda looking over the sea where you can do whatever one desires.
When I was there a couple years ago it was $100 USD per night. Very secure, nice restaurant, great food (breakfast included) and run by an American man and his Jamaican wife so they understand within the realities of Jamaica how some people want a balanced vibe where they stay. ***** STAR, by no means but all things considered a far fairer deal than other places in Treasure Beach. A Honeymoon should be nice but pointless to come home broke!!!

my cousin is staying at Norse Point in port antonio in march...i like the looks of that place....
john, that's the veranda i stayed on . . . really enjoyed the pool and some of the food . . . the rest, well, it's bare, ugly property
Flip,
I was planning on booking Norse Point for my 20th, but waited to long and lost the dates. It is a long drive, however you can fly to Port Antonio for some coin. Treasure Beach has some great villas for a decent price, great place to stay if you want quiet and solitude. I would check out both those places if it was me. Using VRBO or FLIPkey to find a good place.

Everybody sees things differently. Again comes down to budget and point of view.

I agree Norse Point is very special those views oh my goodness!
Portland in general is the ideal spot for a honeymoon there is beauty at every turn, laid back vibe and just has a romantic / enchanting feel to the parish.
my AI suggestion would be the butler rooms at Jewel Runaway Bay they truly pamper you.
My other dream spot is Strawberry Hill in Kingston
Attachment 40780Been to Treasure Beach twice. Its like Negril was back in the 80's.Extremly laid back.Rent a scooter to get around and explore. Safe driving for amateurs. Fort Charles beach is sooooooooo nice and deserted! Many villa's to stay at. Have the maid/caretaker cook dinners for you. Check WWW.Treasurebeach.net for more info. Booger, what is VRBO and TRIPkey?
VRBO and Flipkey are websites were owners post their properties and allow you to book them. Great sites if you want to book a private residence such as a villa in Treasure Beach. I have found some great places in different parts of the world using those two sites.
My wife and I went to Port Antonio in 2001, very quiet and beautiful. We landed in Mobay, spent the night, flew out the next morning. Back then Air Jamaica ran a fleet of twin turbo props so getting around the island was easy and relatively cheap. We landed at the Ken Jones Airport with no clue where to go and no pre determined accommodations. Crazy Mon! Completely confused we hooked up with a local driver who took us all over till we found a place to stay... VRBO Internet site has a lot of great towns and places to stay. Silver Sands and Duncans Bay Villas have some good places to relax, with fresh seafood from the Fishermans beach every day. Both places have people to cook and take good care of you.
Thank you. I will check them out.May be coming back
to Ja. in Oct or Nov.
It has been 20 years but we went to a placed called Ciboney for our honeymoon in Ocho Rios. I believe it is a Sandals now but the honeymoon suite was awesome. The property sits up on the hills right above the beach and we had a two room suite that was connected by a courtyard. In the courtyard was a pool and hottub. One room was a living area with full kitchen and the other was the bedroom with the biggest bathroom and shower you have ever seen. The property had something like 130 plunge pools and two huge common ones. It was my first time to Jamaica and me and my bride fell in love with the island and the people. Been back almost every year since.
Hell...I don;t even know if the place still exists but it has been fun remembering it!!
