Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Going to Negril for my Honeymoon in April and staying on the beach for 7 days. As a surprise to my new bride...we are staying an extra 3 days that she will not learn about until she thinks we're heading to the airport!!! I have a reservation at Villa Sur Mer in Suite #6 down but am now wondering if I would enjoy Tensing Pen more since it is waterfront and has an outdoor shower (I Love outdoor showers). Any thoughts from folks who have been to these places...and I know you're out there:)

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Maybe check the availability before you book. We're staying at Tensing Pen in April and booked last July. I was noseying at their rates recently and noticed for the dates I inputted they were fully booked.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
The online availability is not accurate. It said no availability but Expedia said they did. I called the resort and they had several rooms available.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Hmm. So it looks like you are staying in one of the new Lagoon Cottages in VSM. Very nice! However, I believe you are correct - they do not have a waterfront view. Tough choice. Personally, my wife and I place a high value on having a nice balcony with a sea view (we would rather stay at rustic place with sea view, then a nice suite with a garden view). On the other hand, your honeymoon is a once in a lifetime event and VSM is one of finest properties in all off Negril. You can't go wrong there in terms of amenities and service there. If you're able to score one of the Pillar houses or the Seagrape rooms at Tensing Pen, that might be viable trade-off for VSM. However, note that some of the rooms/cottages at Tensing do not have AC.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Oh that's good news then! Sorry I can't help any more as I've not stayed at either hotel before, but we'll be at TP 20-27th for the first time! I was struggling to pick between Catcha & Tensing.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
I would go Tensing Pen since it is seaside!!!!!! You pay much for VSM & you are staying across the street.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Both are really nice, but I agree with WestEndGirl! Tensing Pen has one gorgeous view. Either one, I have no doubt you will be pleased. Congrats on the nuptials!!
BTW, miss talking to you WEG! :)

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Would the Pillars cottage at TP be hot in May without A?C?

Can anybody weigh in on Hide Awhile as an option?

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
For a honeymoon Tensing Pen can't be beat....don't think just book it...I typically go in May and stay in a pillar and ac is not needed and I love me some ac

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Definitely Tensing Pen! Cove cottage now has AC and is situated right above the cove with a stellar view and the Rock cottages are also great. I would prefer any of those to a pillar as they are very tiny but do have an outdoor shower. RC2 has air and they may have put it in RC1 by now as they are planning to put AC in all the cottages eventually.
There are outdoor showers to rinse off the salt water at all the sea entrances too.
The property is magical and would be an amazing surprise for your new wife!

Those cottages are not available, Pillars north & south and Southhouse 1 & 2. What do you think?

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
The only time it was really hot was late afternoon toward sunset. I would just close the doors & shutters & hang out by the pool if we were 'home' at that time.
We were there in late November so it probably wasn't as humid that time of year.
Look into LeMirage - top floor! They have a beautiful view & air, lovely staff, store & restaurants within easy walking distance.
We were there in March last year & had the whole place to ourselves.
Which meant skinny dipping a few nights!! ;)

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
I'd do the south pillar!!!
Here's a lil map with the property layout!!!

Negril One Stop has good photos & video of tensing pen too!

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Thank you all for your help!

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
Of those I would probably choose south pillar too. South house has a/c though so it's a tough choice.
Honestly, you can't go wrong at TP, all the rooms are great!

Good to know!! I will be staying my first time on the cliffs in a Garden view room and a little worried about no a/c especially when my hot flashes kicks in..lol...Do the GV have ANY view of the Sea? Also if you have windows open are the mosquitos bad like on the beach? It looks like they don't have TVs do they?

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
I'm going to go against the grain here - we spent part of our 20th anniversary in VSM #6 down and it was exquisite. The pictures do not do it justice and it is very romantic. Beautiful place, great service and if there is not anyone in the "big house" they will let you chill over there (and you can use the access to the snorkel cove, just be careful). LTU is right across the street or you can easily walk to Catcha for dinner.

Re: Tensing Pen or Villa Sur Mer??
I stayed in the South pillar years ago and nothing beats watching the sunset from that balcony with a cold beverage!

Which garden room are you referring to? Garden A, patio and Garden studio all have partial sea views. Garden B has a lovely porch but no sea view. Garden cabin does not have a patio or balcony at all and would be my least favorite room on the property.

It just say Queen Garden view but it also say it's a Seaview & Patio in the description so it must be Garden A..? Are the mosquitoes bothersome like on the beach?

We have never been bothered by Mosquitos at TP. Been in Nov/Dec and March-May.
I'm not sure what room that would be but you can call Or email Tensing Pen and they will let you know what room it is.
