Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
In negril or anywhere overseas for that matter? I usually do but wonder if I'm being silly because its not like if I get hurt they will say ma'am how much is your emergency room copay? OR will they? I hope I never know.
Was just wondering if you guys do?
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Mine is in my money clip, along with ID and credit cards. It goes everywhere with me....its not as though it adds a lot of bulk or weight to my daily load LOL Yes, it goes to Jamaica, not because I'm sure it will serve a purpose, but because I didn't see any reason to purposely leave it home.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I am not sure my insurance card would help me much in Jamaica as my experience, thank goodness albeit limited in this regard, tells me cash is what the service provider wants and for me to be reimbursed by my insurer.

doubt it would help much, but I carry it. in any case, in the event something happens while in transit in the states it's good to have.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Most US issued insurance policies (I have BCBS) coverage stops at the border. Wise to get international travel insurance (like IMG). Can be purchased for one trip or yearly-multiple trip coverage... also may be included + can purchase upgraded evacuation insurance. I have checked and my IMG insurance (premiums seem relatively cheap) + would even cover private hospitals like Hope in Mobay....I try to come down with with a large open balance on my credit card because I have heard that hospitals may want $$ up front and then you can collect from your insurance company later...

Couldn't hurt to bring your inf. Might get lucky and they would honor your health insurance. Then again the Jamaican Lottery has drawings every night

First time ever purchasing Travel Insurance. Purchased when I bought my airline tickets. Total cost for four - $138. Seemed like a good deal.

Print and read it, every cheap policy I get has an exclusion for stuff like intoxication. Some of us stay intoxication more than they do sober on vacation....

Eco, good point! Lots of fine print, but there is some meat to the policy.
Even though my avitar has a bottle of red stripe in it, I'm a sober traveler now.
Thanks,

We always get travel insurance. Pretty sure whatever health insurance you have is useless in JA.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I call my insurer incase of a medixal emergency so I have two identical notes I carry with me (one in my wallet and one just in my pocket) with all the info in it that would be needed if someone had to assist me in making that call. I usually leave my actual card at home.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I bring it with me, but.....
We were in Montego Bay back in 2003. A friend of ours had a terrible reaction to shellfish and the doctor wouldn't see her unless we had $250 US cash, up front.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I buy travel insurance....very cheap for a little piece of mind.....
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Most definitely. You never know what might happen. Better safe than sorry.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Thanks for the responses. I always have and was wondering if I was being silly.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I use Geoblue which is part of BCBS....no deductible with $1,000,000 cap cost me $60 last trip, it's about half that for $500 deductible......
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Thanks a lot Yesihunt2 for that info. Covered my soon to be wife and myself for $100,000 with $100 deductible for $63. Pay's everything at 100%. Hopefully there's no need but I sure feel better knowing I have it. More and more parts seem to be breaking down as the years roll on!!
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
Good deal and I have BCBS too so will keep in mind. Thanks.
Re: Do you take your insurance card with you on vacation
I would always carry this to show you have it. Credit card always needed at hospitals. Some local physicians are trying to be Providers for some insurances….long process and we continue to work on this! 50% of people I see have travel insurance or some coverage on their ticket purchased with their credit card so I give a receipt for them to try and submit!
