WOW!!! Finally a couple of pictures, thanx Bnewb! I see the trim and railings are now white....do we know if it is staying snappy pink? Are those new chaises or the same old worn out one's that I loved so much....lol. I guess there won't be a bar for the general public....or maybe, but I doubt highly that Red Stripes will be 150J. You gett'n all this Rollie?! Better have a place for us to hang by the time we get there.....LOL! Then again, we'll just hang w/ R & L....they know all the good places anyway....grin!

I walked trough Sunbeach to the road in august and they had all the rooms gutted and were putting in new patio doors and windows in all the rooms.

Have they torn the beach bar down yet? Will surely miss that, especially Maureen and Robert.

This will definitely be the part I'm going to miss. Lots of great times at that little spot. Anybody know what Robert and Maureen are up to or if they'll open somewhere else?

Turtle .............. weren't we going to settle a Vikings / Packer bet a For Real ? ? ? ? Out trips the last 2 years were cancelled due to family health issues which are now resolved ............. we are going to Negril March 2012 ............... You ? ? ?

Funny how every pic I see of For Real seems to always have that dark cloud hanging over it?!?! I'll really miss not hanging at the bar this stay :(

Captain.......You're right, we both agreed For Real would be the place to meet for cocktails.......There will be no such bet this year for sure, unless you want to go off the score at halftime :)

We'll be there 10/8 for a week and then back for two weeks in the beginning of Feb. It doesn't look like we'll get to have that drink this year, but hopefully our paths will cross one of these winters.

PS. The Packers look good again this year......it should be fun for you!

Too bad we can't settle up ............. but as the saying goes "timing is everything ! !"

Dana 1 .............. noticed the cloud issue also ............ mostly when we stayed for years next door at Coco La Palm .............. many times the beach would be sunny in either direction while clouds passed over the center part of the beach ............ no rain, just clouds, no big deal .......... I am guessing it has something to do with the way the clouds come out of the mountains to the west

Does anyone know:

If they are building a beach bar at Sandy Haven?

If so, when will the bar be open?

I guess, from the questions, you can see where my priorities are :)

No one seems to KNOW or willing to answer this question! I'm sure if there is a bar.....like I stated before....$150J Red Stripes will be a thing of the past. Maybe we'll just get a cooler full of beer and hang out on the waters edge?! Still get to check out the passer-bys! All things change Kahuna, but I still want to work at the book signing...lol,,Respect!

When we peeked...you could see the roof of the original bar...don't know if or how long the bar will stay.

any idea what that boardwalk thing is that is blocking the used-to-be gorgeous view from the first floor beach rooms?

i remember reading somewhere on one of the JA forums/websites that there will be a restaurant built in the location of the old bar - i can't remember where i saw that, and can't find it, so nuhbaddy bodda ask me to cite the source -- but i DO remember reading it.

Robert and Maureen are opening a place further down on the beach. It's being built/remodeled/worked on now and should be open within the next couple of weeks. Don't know the name of it yet but when I find out I will let you know.

He stopped the taxi business as he said tourists were messing up his car and he wanted to do something he liked as opposed to something he had to do. Makes sense to me! I think many people are doing things they have to as opposed to something they really like.

Delta, What are you talking about with him in the taxi business? Are you referring to Karl? Where on the beach is the place that Maureen and Robert are opening?

kmolineux - I think delta was saying that Robert had been in the taxi business after for real closed, but that he is abandoning the taxi business to run the place with Maureen.

where will Robert and Maureen be? What is the name of the bar? I know that Robert worked opposite Maureen so that he could also run taxi....he almost worked around the clock there for awhile. I hope they get the bar up and running soon as I will make sure I go there. Please let us know where thenew bar is Delta.

Hey everyone. As soon as I know where it is exactly I promise to let you know. It's towards Alfreds but not too close. Once the name is up I can tell you and that would help those there find where it is exactly.

Just sad...this was the best spot on the beach - those beachfront rooms couldn't be beat! With those new prices - I won't be staying there again, and if the renderings on their website are correct, it looks like a fancy hotel in a cosmopolitan city - not a beach resort in Negril.

"For Real" was a MUCH better name. Still can't believe they took out the beach bar. What were they thinking? At least we can still see Robert and Maureen.

I was planning on staying there coming up but were not taking reservations until dec 1st.

In one of the photos it looks like the old bar is still there.
Had some times there!
I know it won't have the same vibe - no Maureen and Robert, Sammy gone too. And I doubt if the RedStripes will be 150 . . .
But I'll check it out in January.

Things change - gotta roll with it I guess - but damn - I'm gonna miss For Real
