A tribute to a lovely man...
For those that hang out at Sunbeach and know Roy who was the chef and the person who'd do anything he could to make you comfortable on the property....we are sad to announce he has passed.
We spent the day with the owners and staff of Sunbeach and remembered what a wonderful man he was to know....it was a sunny and busy day there...perfect for remembering Roy.

Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
Been hanging out at Sunbeach for years and Roy was truly one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. A pleasant, kind, respectful man, who would go out of his way to help you out in any way he could ! Respect to my old friend ! Won't be the same without him.
Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
I am very sad to hear this, Roy was truly a nice guy. He always remembered us when we came. So sad, he wasn't very old.
Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
I can't think of who he is, but have spent lots of time at Sunbeach?

Pool...he could be seen making jerk chicken at the bar grill quite often...or just running around helping people get set up etc.
We don't have a pic but if someone else has one...please post.
Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
I have a couple pics of Roy setting up his little craft stand early in the morning beside the bar at Sunbeach, with his American flag skullcap on. Interacting with his best buddy from Michigan.............. who may not want his pic posted. I'll have to respect that.

Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
So sorry to hear this. Condolences to his friends and family. I think I met him in August. Is that an older picture?
Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
That pic is about 3 years old. There's a lot of good people around Sunbeach, but he was one of the best !

Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
I first met Roy when we were coming home on the shuttle on a Saturday night from Sea Star. Someone thought Roy should have a night out and paid his way. The next day, he pointed out to me that we were on the same bus the previous night. When he was done his shift, he sat down and had a chat. I noticed the peanut man and said I would like to try those, but didn't have cash with me. Roy offered to buy me some and I thought that was so kind, and so different from many of the people I had met. After that day we had many conversations. I learned he had a wife and a young daughter at that time. I told him I liked his cooking and if I won the big lottery, I was going to bring him to my town and he could open a Jamaican restaurant. One day my daughter and her friend were not feeling well and Roy made them some ginger tea. They really felt better after that. My next visit with my sister, I stopped by with some goodies for Roy to take home to his daughter. This winter I also made a point to stop by and say hello to Roy once again, and I'm glad I did. He was a kind hearted, hard working man. Gone much to soon.
Re: A tribute to a lovely man...
I will think of him often! He made my lazy days at Sun Beach fun and interesting. He was always a laugh and I could count on him to source whatever I needed (lighter, paper, a good chat...). He often had my chair and umbrella waiting for me or was quick to arrange. Bless my friend. Baamaapii! Til we meet again.

Yes, we too will miss Roy. We hang at Sun Beach quite a lot and he was always there helping in whatever way he could. RIP
