Can anyone tell us what is "the going" rate or a fair price to establish for a taxi from the airport to the Grand pineapple? The 2 of us are going in March and if anyone can add any tips as to how best to secure transportation, wing it upon landing vs. pre-arranging, driver recommendations, etc. We are the most frugal people we know if that helps

Private runs about 80 each way
Although it is kind of nice to get a car to take you to your hotel from the airport, I like to use the JUTA Transportation Bus that you can a $20 per person price each way to your hotel and it does stop once along the way as well. You can also reserve your spot in advance if you so choose.

80 US is still a bit on the steeper side. You can certainly get someone to do it for more like 60ish which would be cheap. Certainly for 70 US.
But services stationed within the airport itself such as Premier can charge more like 90 US.

Juta is the least costly ride, but you sometimes have to wait until the bus fills up and that could mean waiting for another flight to land.
Clives transport charges $20 pp for a shared ride. With Clives, you usually get a private ride even if you agree to a shared ride. I would tip another $5-6 pp..so the total cost one way would be about $50-55 for 2. Clivestransportservicejamaica.com is the link. You can rent a phone for another $20. If you are gonna need a phone....Alfreds charges $50 for 2 passengers and a phone is included, so that would a better deal. ALfred posts on this board..easy to find his link. the premier price of 90 was a private car. The prices I am referring to are for private car. 60.00 and 70.00 were referring to that as well.

JUTA is my recommendation. Once on the bus or van, I have never waited more than 12 minutes before leaving. That's my experience....
Shared rides stop at multiple hotels, turning a hr and a half into 2+ hrs... Last time I went that way, a French ladies baby threw upon me and cried the whole way.. no apologies in English anyways.. never again for me
The lowest price is $60 with many drivers, including Kenny, thats what i usually pay and always try to give $10 or $20 tip, espeacially if its a driver who does not own the car.

With flight schedules from where we live, the earliest we can get to MBJ is 1:35 PM (plane scheduled landing). If we have a private driver waiting for us at the airport, we leave the airport the minute we are through customs and immigration, and get to our hotel as early as possible. That means my wife is in the water between 4 and 4:15 PM our first day. That is far more important to us than saving $50. and is why we've always been willing to pay for the premium service. It makes our first day seem like a vacation day instead of just a travel day.
Couldn't agree more. The sooner you get to where you are staying the sooner the vacation starts. I do love the ride to Negril too but don't want to be waiting around at the airport.
Sitting at the airport a few minutes no worry to me.. stopping 5-10 min at 3-8 hotels, that's a big deal to me.. admittedly the stops are longer on the return trip..
Kinglsley James from Take Care Tours is $50 and most importantly he drives great! He drives smooth and he is game for anything, no problem man! Nice car too.
Always use Clives.....no worries if I wait a bit - never longer than 15-20 minutes and love to get a patty and people watch - once I smell the sea air I am completely chilled and in no hurry - no such word any longa. Always dependable - price increase is still reasonable $60US roundtrip for me. I have met some cool shared riders - no bad experiences (sorry Jasper ewww). I kick back and chat w/ the driva and click photos and soak in the scenery. I am always last off cuz I stay far West End but no worries - I like seeing the fancy places and the excitement in the guests eyes. I actually need that ride to change gears and get on island time (lol). I too usually tip appx $5 each ride for help w/bags and usually great conversation and always SAFE driving.:cool:
i've always been lucky, part of the deal when traveling from UK, is a transfer with tour rep to hotel from and to airport, except last trip when the airport sent a car to pick me up early
