This yam is different than our yam/sweet potato?
Moose, their sweet potato is different than 'ours' too!
For some reason many grocery stores in Canada wrongly call sweet potato "yam". It's as strange as calling a peach an apple. But yam costs $2 to $4 per pound here, sweet potato much less. Unfortunately, (cost wise), I much prefer the yam.
Yam vines. They grow 20 feet in a year and then the roots are harvested. They are huge. 3x the with of a mans arm and a couple feet long. They are sliced up and boiled. Mildly sweet and a great starch. The picture here is yam vines last August. We will be having a meal of them after Christmas. Can't wait........
