Single male looking for budget place to stay. west end or beach acceptable
Been to Negril many times since the early 80's. coming down in Jan or Feb. Looking for a place to stay either on West End, the Beach or both. Doesn't need to be fancy, just cozy and safe. Im sure there are many threads about this, but one of my favorite things to do is eat in Negril. Soooo good. Suggestions for that are welcome too. Who is good to book a day of snorkeling with? Anyone rent a motorcycle lately? Have to get a bike ride in. Link to a good road map?

Re: Single male looking for budget place to stay. west end or beach acceptable
Two inexpensive places are Firefly on the beach
http://www.jamaicalink.com/
And Jah B's across the street from the beach
http://www.negril.com/jahbs/
Both have room's with private bathrooms and ones with shared outside facilities so if you want to pay a bit more to get private. Firefly is really nice and Jah "Bs is more of a locals yard type but clean,
Whichever you stay at you can rent cycles in front of Jah'B's

Quality's Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar for some awesome seafood! Just down a bit and across the road from Canoe.

On the West End, most people will recommend Sea Star. It's an excellent option, if you don't mind not being on the water. You can also get a good rate at Catcha Gardens for a fan cooled room. Jan/Feb is quickly approaching, so the popular places might have limited availability.
A good budget option on the cliffs with a sea view is Negril Escape. Very good security, comfortable rooms and excellent cliff access. When we stayed there, the overall property was in need of a little cosmetic maintenance but I understand that they now have new management who are addressing this. Frankly, if I was staying there as a single guy I wouldn't mind the minor issues - my wife, on the other hand, was not pleased with the worn out resort. Last I checked, you can get a room during high season for less than $90. Depending on your budget, I would also suggest Home Sweet Home on the cliffs. Advertised prices are higher than NE, but the property is of a higher quality (recently renovated in the last couple years). Visit their website and contact Charlie directly to get a better rate. HSH is smaller than NE and has a better vibe, IMO. The restaurant at HSH is also underrated. Monty is an excellent cook and it's not uncommon to find him buying fresh fish on the cliffside, when the fishing boats come in for the day.

I liked the rustic cottage at Kuyaba. Good place to stay for a single dude. Now for good eats >>>> Kuyaba, Shark's, Ltu Pub, Ciao Jamaica, Coconut International....just to name a few.

Jay's Hideaway - on Westland Mtn Rd - what you've been lookin' for

Re: Single male looking for budget place to stay. west end or beach acceptable
what's your budget? a lot of the places suggested run on the high end . . .
-
Re: Single male looking for budget place to stay. west end or beach acceptable
Knowing your budget would help narrow it down.
I think most of the places mentioned in this thread can be had for less than $100/night (in high season). I would consider that low to mid-range. I would consider places like Catcha Falling Star, Nirvana and Idle Awhile high end.

As for eating on a budget......eat where locals eat. Sweet Spice is probly my fav, Jerk barrels, box meals, patties etc. Also helps if you have a kitchen or at least a fridge/microwave. You can save $ by eating cereal for b'fast and keeping sandwhich stuff on hand for lunch.

last time I was there I seen countless taxi drivers eating at a spot. Good food, not great, but such a good price it allowed me to eat a really nice supper at one of many great places. Has any checked out the website airbnb.com? I found many reasonably priced places there. I will be checking into it more now that my time has been confirmed. Thanks for the suggestions everybody. keep 'em coming! Now to get on that pubcrawl list...

Has anyone booked from here? www.airbnb.com I Have found lots of places on this site. Haven't found any negatives while searching online. Private beach out on the West End to a private beach at Point Village. Stuff from $20 to $350 a sleep. Jeez I hate being responsible.

Catcha Falling Star Gardens, nice sized rooms, great pool, right across from LTU.
Sometimes they have specials on the "fan" rooms for $49 a night.

Odd you'd have to ask if you've been there many times.

All different places on/off beach, many no longer exist and I value others opinions. Information and opinions are not at all odd...

Judy's House is the best! Have stayed there 3 times, right up the street from the Canoe Bar, great prices and the nicest owner!

Cool! Nice to hear positive comments from a forum member about Judy's instead of the site. Heard so much about the Canoe Bar. The price let's me afford a motorcycle for some country side back road tours. Seeing Jamaica from a motorcycle is a special winter treat. Any one care to join me?

I will be at Cozy Cabins for half the stay. I believe Rose runs it. Sorry for the confusion. To say my short term memory is bad is a understament...:p
