Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Is a question friends and family often ask me. I try to explain to them. I have been to a lot of nice places in the world. I have been to a lot of nice beaches. But, I just like the vibe of Negril. I have found a place I like and I am going to keep coming back. Hopefully I can keep going to new places, but Negril will keep calling me back. I leave soon for Negril. It will be the 39th year in Negril for me.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
We travel to lots of places. we like Jamaica for the food, beaches, Catch a falling Star and the 2 hr. non-stop from ATL. Roll Tide!!

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
3.5 hours from NYC...so close but a world away.
The food and the people. Good vibes.
The beach is a huge bonus.
-
Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Relatively easy to get to. Great beach with shallow, calm water. Great people, vibe, smoke, food, rum, music. Reasonable price.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Agree with the replies. There is NO place on earth like Negril. I try really hard to explain this to friends who insist that Mexico or the DR is their "place". Whatever. The saying "Once you go, then you know" is really true. {Except for the travelers who stop in Jamaica on a cruise ship} . They get hassled too much, and say "we are never going back to Jamaica again" This fact is something the Jamaica tourism board should be aware of, and address. Whatever. There's another saying I like . "Either you get it, or you don't!" For me, it's the great people, the food, the irie vibes, the peace of mind, the emptying out of my brain, do not turn on the tv, do not tink about stuff back home, the ice cold Red Stripes, a really good dirty banana once and a while, da beach, da cliffs mon'. The "Skip" sightings, the Saturday night Seastar Inn entertainment & food. Hanging out at Sunnyside bar, Sun Beach, the afternoon entertainment at the Boat bar, Drfiter's bar, The food at Best in the West, Lenbert's one love bus pub crawl, Our JA family in Likkle London, 3 Dives, Our friends at NTH. etc. There I could go on, sorry Rob {grin} Too long? In January will be my lovely wife's and mine 15th Negril trip {in 11 years} still newbies? One love, RESPECT. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Todd & Deb

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Wife and I have been going back every February for the last 14 years. For us it's the guaranteed weather, ability to eat and drink anything we want without the fear of ever getting a food born illness and the fact that there is never a year where we don't find something new to do. As RNRFarmer put it, even though we have don a lot of stuff, and a lot of it has become familiar and almost routine, we still feel like Newbies every year. Just taking a walk up the cliffs to the lighthouse and beyond is an adventure every time you do it. Then again, an evening at Pee Wee's or 3 Dives or Erica's (insert your favorite place here), even though familiar, can be different every time.
Oh yeah... the great sex that the relaxed atmosphere brings is something special too. ;-)

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Yeah, I've been thinking about this exact question a lot lately. We've been looking all over the place trying to find a new worthy spot to visit, but in the end we keep circling back to Jamaica even though we have been there many times now. I've been to Mexico six times, DR a couple times, Caymans, Bahamas, Cozumel (MX) and all over the southern US. We just like Jamaica the best, feel safer there even with the recent uptick in violence, and not having to worry about what you can and can't eat just pushes it over the top. Oh, and the unending supply of smoke at bargain prices. Ya mon, wi soon come.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
I can get a beach and warm weather in a lot of places so for me it's the people first and the food second. And hey, Cap, can I visit your money too???

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
i get asked that a lot . . . go to mexico with kids yearly, but it just does not cut it for me.
feels like home but always something new!!

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
now let us be honest folks...come on.....the ganja is a big draw, no?
-
Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
It is easy to get a non stop from Philly.
The price is comparable to the Jersey Shore.
It takes little or no planning.
Good food.
However, we tend to take an adventure trip yearly, which is not always easy to get to, not always cheap. and takes considerable planning.
Last February it was the Ecuadorean Amazon and this March we are headed to Nicagarua.
And as far as Mexico goes, we have been many times, but not so much for the beach, but for the Mayan ruins, cenotes, colonial architecture, none of which Jamaica has.
Regards,
Bob

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
I say come and see why for yourself.......................................... .......................paradise.
-
Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
The people, the beach, the cliffs, the music, the food, the combination of all those things.
I try to play down the place a bit... tell friends that Negril is not for everyone... you know what they say "call something paradise - kiss it goodbye".

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Oh ya and Winnipeg gets really cold....

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Our 5th trip is a short 51 days away. 😊 25 nights at the Rondel. For us it's the people, smoke, food, vibe, beach, sun etc. Negril has it all and we love the do nothing chill away the day atmosphere.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
My first time in Negril I felt a pull beyond just the tourist vibe. It took several more visits to identify that feeling as "home".
For the moment that is only an emotional state. But someday it will be physical as well.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
I am not a deep person like many that post on this thread. I wish I were. A few nights ago I watched a movie about Jamaica and I found a song in my head, if I could write one, it would be titled My beautiful Jamaica. I have not been fortunate to travel the world like some. I start saving again as soon as I leave for next year. It's not just the party time of holiday it's the lilt in the voices, the vibe in the music, a little child that is laughing even though you know they do not have or ever will the riches that we take advantage of everyday. It seems like they already know that they live in the most prosperous place on the planet that we just can't seem to see. I truly love this country and the many people of the melting pot. I even started wondering which tribes they may have come from last trip. What a long strange trip it's been.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
We used to get that sort of reaction from people. Not so much anymore. Guess they got the idea. In fact when we go to another island they ask how it compared to Jamaica. A number of folks have ventured to Jamaica based on our reviews. Some have become multiple time travelers.
We like to get away and do nothing but spend time on the beach. We do it every year on the Jersey shore, since the 70's. But we like another beach vacation. We have been to St Marteen, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Antiqua, Dominican Republic, Cancun and Jamaica (6 xs). We find Negril to be to our liking the most. We love the beach. The calm beach. The long beach. And yet it is like a cove. The buildings are low rise. The food is fabulous. The accommodations are unique, not your usual. And that is so appealing. The closeness to the beach wherever you stay. The cliffs for a different perspective. We love the dining.
We love the entertainment. We love the way we can walk and walk. We love how we can slow down, go no where, do nothing and enjoy every minute of it.
We will return to Negril whenever we can. It suits us. We miss it. We will be back.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
I agree that whenever we went to an island, we always compared it Jamaica. So we alway go back to Jamaica. Never had a bad time, for which I thank the people there.

Good food.
Ditto this. Especially the comparison to the Jersey Shore. The wife and I are looking into a long weekend at Cape May for Valentines Day. Hotel prices are easily $200+/night - in the wintertime, when you can't even enjoy the beach! (That's another thing - in Jersey the ocean is really only warm enough to swim in 2-3 months out of the year. Jamaica enjoys a warm current all year round.) I could get a pretty sweet room in Negril for that price, even during high season. In fact, I have never paid that much for a room in Negril.
Basically, it's hard to justify paying more for a destination when you know you will enjoy Negril more. The food, the music, the people, the activities, the vibe, the culture.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Have to agree with Georgia. Winterpeg can get pretty cold. there's nothing like an ice cold red stripe on de beach ! it is paradise to me but not for everyone. more for us mon !

This year, the weather is pretty decent in Winnipeg though isn't it?! But not as decent as the Jamaica weather
Are you heading to Negril this winter, Stoners5? We got talked into returning to Hawaii, and although I know it will be very nice, I am already dreaming of Jamaica for next winter!

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
My first trip was to Sandals Negril in 1992 and much like Ras Walleye's comment, Negril and Jamaica made me feel I was home.... Hard to explain to someone that hasn't had that experience with Jamaica.
I have been to most of the other islands in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, Central America and Florida, but there is something about Jamaica that just soothes my soul.
My trips to Jamaica included being married, divorced, with significant other and her adult children. I have gone to Jamaica to Party Hearty and also been there sober. Regardless of the circumstances I have always felt a connection to Jamaica.
The people and culture has drawn me in and I'm hooked.
Last trip in June 2015 was the first trip in almost seven years. I walked into a restaurant one night and and old friend "Oz" stood up came over and we hugged. Hadn't seen him in seven years and he had no idea I was on the island, but we continued the same conversation we had ended seven years ago as if there had been no lapse in time....
Enjoy,
VVHT

And yes, the cost is a big plus! The best value for your travel dollars. A trip to Negril is a fraction of the cost of most locations. We love that we can go more often then would otherwise not be possible. Even better because it is our favorite get away spot.

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
Being from Colorado, people finally believe me when I say I don't go to Jamaica for the ganja. We like Hawaii, Costa Rica and Florida too, but I haven't found any place that is like staying on the cliffs. The great food, safe water and reggae seals the deal. The adult-only beach AIs like Swept Away and Couples Negril with the 7 mile beach cast of characters flowing through are also a real draw. We went somewhere very different (Nepal) this year. It was much more of an adventure and the first year since 2005 we didn't go to Negril at least 1x. Already booked Negril again for 2016.

We may see you at the airport, although we will be heading to Hawaii on Jan. 30th. We like to get away in January and again in March. But Hawaii is so expensive that we are doing one trip only but 3 weeks long. I am not suffering, but will miss Jamaica... next year for sure!

Re: Why do you always go back to Jamaica?
I'll have to watch for you then at the airport. won't be able to buy you a red stripe on the beach but maybe a Caesar at the airport !
