Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
Does anyone have contact info for Mrs Herman, or does anyone plan to be seeing her and would carry a message?
I know she often is around White Sands, but last year I could make a connection. Want to make sure she comes to SeaSplash to find me (Mrs Wilson) and also would like to buy a whole cake. But first I have to find her. This is Mrs Herman, bad pic, but you get the idea.

Thanks for your help!

Pool Guy between you and Johnny you be up and down the beach so much you will see her. If you do, order me up a whole German Sweet Chocolate cake with the coconut pecan frosting. Yum! We will all share it!

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
Hang around Sun Beach. All the sellers seem to enter the Beach at that point. I've seen the cake lady, fruit lady, sea shell man, cotton candy/popcorn man, baked goods guy and others enter the beach at Sun Beach. We were there about 10 times last month and saw them all each day.

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
I don't know ... but I hope to be able to have her sit and talk to us a while and tell us about her baking. I wonder if she got her talent and recipes from her mother, and how far she walks every day with that box on her head in her cute sneakers. Amazing people I have met like her, working SO hard.
Anyway no need to be mad Smith, just my way of tempting you so I get to meet you after years of reading you.

i KNOW EXACTly whatcha mean
....been many many times
with her & others
i would want to sit & chat a while
BUT,
as we all know,
''..time..'' IS money na tru
so little time to make that money
...especially when you gotta walk that loooooooooooooooong long beach front.
gotta hit it & quit it
..keep movin'
....$tick & move
reminds me of when i go-visit
some of my vendor buddies
.......all-ways gotta be cognizant of their priorities, when the tour-bus pulls-up with the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$-customers
have to put our chat on-hold

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
I don't know how much. They are huge cakes to being with - like 16" diameter I would guess. But this year we are bringing group of 13 people so it will go.
Have to be careful - I made SeaSplash promise they would fill up their cake display for our group (and their bar, and the restaurant!) = so I don't want to dissuade people from eating from there. But there will be enough indulging to go around.
Here is another pic of one of my favorite beach sweets -- Cleighton (sp?) sells these out of his basket - they are so full of rum they make your mouth and throat GO NUMB! I love that - and they are very good tasting, and very moist. You can't see it in this photo - but they are made in cool molds with flower shapes so they have a lovely design as well.

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
It's so nice to see Miss Herman is still doing her thing and selling her delicious cakes up and down the beach. I first tried her cake 20 years ago when staying at Miss Lenas (Donaldsons Inn) and always made a point of buying cake from here a few times every trip after. Such a sweet, hard working lady who not only made cakes and walked up and down the beach selling them but I,m sure she also had a family to take care of at one time. They don't seem to make people like that nowadays, well not enough of them anyways.

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
btw Smith I always make sure to both drum up business for vendors, and also to tip well if people spend time with us. Money is needed for badly. And so easy for (most of) us to give a bit more here and there. And buy a cool drink or something to eat. Everything helps and all of it makes people FEEL GOOD! which is the whole point right?

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
the pastry at the bakery in the back of times square trumps anything you can get on the beach . . . just saying . . .
-
Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
I am sure and the bakery at Times Square as well as other places make wonderful baked goods. I have bought baked goods from other places in Negril and was very pleased with the product and everyone here has their favourite places for everything and likes to promote them. That is part of the reason for a message board like this I guess. Mrs Herman has been a constant on the beach in Negril for many years and has a huge following who can't wait to see her and buy cake from her every time they visit. Can't beat sitting on your porch and buying some delicious cake from such a wonderful hard working lady like her as far as I am concerned but to each their own right ;)

ummmmmmmmmmmmm
i KNOW whacha '.mean.'
but,
i won't comment
because i don't wanna mash-up this thread
with my *opinion* on this matter
let's just say, i have a different *approach*
you/me/we can chat 'bout it one day
when we meet
...do it over a couple nice cold bag-juices
:-)

i'm a Ja-pastry FREAK..!!..
..and you've made me very curious
gonna try ... try real hard... to check out that place
I'm a little worried,
because TimesSquare is a high-rent place
and
therefore the baker gotta do $omething to off-set his/her rental-cost, to maximize profit$
..
but i'll check 'em out
'
thanks for the heads-UP

True dat. I'll have to try the cake lady. Marcia at the Yellow Bird Bar also has delicious cakes. The coconut is off the scale good. Next week can't come soon enough. Soon come. :)

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
Ah Smith I look forward to it. And I'll have to stop for cake at Yellow Bird too. I'd rather eat Cake along my way than drink.

smith, u.s. pricing, but delicious . . . i'm a foodie, tried all their versions of everything over the last few years. . . . my favorite is the gizzada(nothing else i've tried compares to theirs) and these almond drops in white chocolate!!! omg, to die for . . . then the chocolate cake . . . finger licking going on . . . and on and on . . .
-
Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
Have yet to try the gizzada. It's on the menu board at Hammonds, but every time I ask; "Gizzada finish".
-
Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
The gizzada,s at the shop behind Time Square are as good as anywhere. Had cakes and banana bread from Ms. Herman pretty much every night back in a 1990 stay at Sunbeam cottages, and a few times. Since. Marcia,at Yellowbird has real nice coconut pie too!

Re: Mrs Herman aka Cake Lady
I still think Jenny's coconut ginger cake is the best damn dessert I've had in Jamaica. I had Connie bake me a whole one last time, I even had a couple pieces to bring with me on the plane home. You have to keep it refrigerated though...
