Long-timers I need advice.
I have been many times, normally charters flights and the big bus, for transfer.
This year we are flying commercial, private transfer to and from from MBJ to Negril.
I'm all good with arrival, it's the lines for United at check-in on the return.
Got to the airport to way to early last year and watched the commercial airline
check-in lines back-up bad. (and immigration was packed as well) so...
How much time do you give your-self to make your flight? (I'm thinking 3hrs?)(+ 1.5 Negril to mbj)??
Sure cuts down on the beach time, that last morning.
Departing flight 2:30pm on a Sunday
Help me wise ones:confused:
This my only stress, you know, got to get back to work.:p
Yes, I am nuts.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
We recommend that you be at the airport 2 hrs before flight

Re: Long-timers I need advice.
3 hours plus drive time, is usually what we do, that gives us time to turn in the car check our bags at 2 different areas (oversized) go thru security, imigration, have something to eat, and check out the stores. Better safe than sorry.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
Club Mobay can help speed you through security lines, though airline checkin lines can be slow. Hanging out in the lounge having snack and drinks extends the vacation a bit.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
2hrs before flight and never an issue in 10 or 12 trips.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
Club Mo Bay is great for Departure. I believe it's $30 per person. They have showers if you have a later flight. Very relaxing lounge with airline monitors. Free bar service just leave tip. Not a bad selection of food . You will easily spend more eating and drinking in the airport.

Re: Long-timers I need advice.
LOVE Club Mobay just for that reason....well worth the $$ and makes going back to reality a little less stressful for us.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
We always cut it pretty close. We get to the airport 1-1/2 hours before flight departure, we haven't actually missed one yet though it's been very close a couple times. 2 hours is pretty safe.

But how does that help with departure time?

Haha, yeah we've had a few of those "one hour" before departure days. One time we got there with exactly one minute to spare for check in. I was cripplingly high after making a serious effort to consume our remaining subs en route. Thought the lady at the counter was about to tell us no, but we made it. Barely.

The one time I did use Club Mobay departure service it took us longer to get thru security than the folks who did not purchase it. The line was incredibly long and not staffed correctly.
I also allow 1 1/2 hours max before departure. I fly first class though, so the longest wait is not at the ticket counters but at security. I have never come close to missing a flight.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
Had the fastest departure ever on the 3rd, now that they have many kiosks for check-in, as the passenger is doing half the work. Much shorter time getting through the line for the agent to check bags and documents.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
How do the kiosks work? I have seen but never used.

5. stand in short line (?) and hand the receipt to the nice lady at the desk

Weird you say that. I had the same experience when they first came out, but last December I got through fine. I have the same name situation.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
If you're an iffy flyer, like I am, and stress a lot ... give yourself 2 hrs Negril to Mobay; 2 hours for check in/immigration/security (although immi isn't an issue for Canadians now, I think) and book Club MoBay! Zoom thru Security (provided you are good!) and you're laughing! You never know when a flight to the north will be delayed and even if its not, Club Mobay is worth the USD30!
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
My sister and I arrived late from Negril back in November. When the woman at the counter told us we could not get a flight out for anothe 3 days, we just looked at eachother and smiled. We sure weren't gonna cry about it! I would say 3 hours just to be safe. Yes, that last day sucks. Hard to get your last swim in before that airport ride. Earlier this month when we (3 sisters ) were there for a weekend, we were pretty high trying to distribute weight in bags before check in lol.
Re: Long-timers I need advice.
3 hours vs. 3 days. ummmmm, lol We was very tempted to make the call, I can't make my flight call. And suffer for 3 more days. lol
