Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
We've been coming to Negril for many years . The ride from the airport in Montego Bay Negril is always interesting. As much as Jamaica slows us down on vacation it doesn't seem to affect some of the drivers on the road. Speed and passing cars seems to be always the subject. This trip I saw many cars double passing. How unsafe is that!! There was a bad accident off the road on the way to the airport last Saturday and our drivers car was side swiped, taking out his side mirror. An inch closer to us and we would have been in a much worse situation. Life is too short! Slow down.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
My driver in 2014 drove like a manic from Mobay to Negril.
I think that he booked himself to tight and was trying to make time, last time for that guy, he most likely would not accept me again anyway as I gave him quite a blast when we arrived

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
The beach road is very dangerous, speed and stoned drivers in cars, trucks and bikes. Took an old friend of mine during our stay in Feb.
Haven't heard if they ever caught the driver or not? Any Help Rob?

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
If you make frequent trips to the island why not find a driver you like and use them each time. Collin from Collins Tours started out as my go to driver and now a consider him a good friend. But Collin , Linston and other great drivers can be found on the Transportation tab at the top of the page.

I like to spread it around and try new drivers.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
And I just thought they were all 3 lane roads, not 2 lanes lol.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
We have used Mr. Jerry for many years, and when he can't his brother picks us up. Both are very good.it was another driver passing a car that didn't allow time and distance that hit us. I will never forget years ago when we had a driver nicknamed cowboy. Might have been one of his last pickups as they said he was legally blind.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
From the outset Linston and I have made the client's safety and comfort of primary importance of Linston's taxi.
We always allow time for a pick up or drop off to be done as comfortably as possible.

We used Linston this past November. Nice smooth operation from booking til drop off. Ended up we knew a lot the same people from his neighborhood. Had a great time chatting about old days and church roofs used as flight beacons....hehehe
Will use Linston again. Kind, courteous and a safe driver.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
We used Linston last week, he was on time, super nice, and a very safe driver. Highly recommended and we will use him again next trip.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
Craziest ride I have had in Jamaica was after sampling the wares at miss Browns. We were in the truck with the guy who used to run air time parasailing, I think his name was Peter. I screamed at him the whole time to stop because he was driving on the wrong side of the road. Turns out it musta been the tea because he assured me the next day that we were on the appropriate side of the road the whole time lol. God I love Negril

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
it was a lot more fun in 79 on my first trip. People drove just as fast but the road was quite different. "i Survied the road to Negril" wasn't just a T-shirt.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
i am already leary of using unknown drivers for the simple reason that they consume whatever substance . . . and drive!!
the last few reaches i have used lloyd haughton and his wife carol. courteous, on time, no substance abuse, meticulous clean vehicle and a pleasure to have them drive me.
also had a trip to accompong with linston and will use him again for mayfield. super!

mjc12771,
Yes. We are one car and one driver.
We examined expansion and decided that we would remain in a one car one driver niche. (although the car will change soon)
Being in debt to a new bus or having other drivers carry our clients and not getting Linston was not acceptable.
Linston's Taxi is only one part of our projects in Jamaica.
We still have to manage Zion Hill and it's growth. Ask any of the boardies that have visited
So yes only one card and one driver

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
I have used several of the drivers mentioned in the Transport section, and all were safe and did not drive like an idiot. If you are concerned reach out to one of them.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
I have emailed Linston twice in the past three weeks about our trip in September asking for prices and have not heard anything back. Is there some other way I should reach out to him?

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
We were with Linston on the way back to the airport last weekend. A car was passing another coming toward us and Linston's quick thinking saved everyone. We pulled to the far left side of our lane and the passing vehicle went right between the other car and us. Thanks Linston!!!

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
Linston dropped us at the airport just yesterday

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
Old Goat, some of those dangerous drivers unfortunately may be Taxi drivers. This post is about dangerous drivers, I see nothing wrong with posts mentioning safe drivers that some have used. We can't stop the bad driving but we can by word of mouth help keep the good drivers in business. I prefer to know my driver will get me to my destination safely and chose Linston for our transfer next week, he was chosen by recommendation on this board. It's a good thing to mention good drivers as well, Spread the love :)

OK, Its a crazy driver thread/story time. Stayed at Half Moon Bay and the driver who dropped me off was supposed to pick me up...This was pre cell phone days, heck at my age, there may have been no phones. No way to get a hold of this person, so 1 1/2 hours before lift off I start to realize that this could get interesting and start hitch-hiking. Being the thrifty person I am, try haggling on the price. aaah, no. Took the 3rd driver and were off to MoBay. I ask the driver, can we make it in time and get the standard answer, Yea mon,nu prublum. This guy made NASCAR look like a play ground game. Well lets just say, in high school we had many Miss Browns events and learned driving this way, so he no scare me... 4 people in a Corolla with bad shocks, double passing (double passing is 3 wide)everywhere but Lucea it took us around 45 minutes on the old road to get there. I was the last one to board the plane. Yet, another Negril moment and I love everyone one of 'em

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
Everyone should encourage road safety at every opportunity.

Re: Too Fast.......Passing.......double passing????
Unfortunately a new story from this week.
crossing at the grand pineapple an oncoming car was slowing down so my son assumed it was safe ,and it did look so until some idiot on the rice rocket with no head light cranked around the car just as he stepped into the street, lucky I had not had too much as this point and was able to yank him back out of the way.
Lessons learned:
If the resort provides crossing guards use them
Never assume the road is safe( its also really hard to adjust your thinking on which way the cars are coming form)
All these things are probably second nature for the more seasoned Negril travelers, but if your doing research on going there don't get complacent as it almost totally screwed me!
