Since my birthday, my wife's birthday, and the anniversary of our first date all land within about a week of 4/20, we tend to travel around then. I've been in Negril on 4/20, more than once, and it seemed to be just another day, no one cared. Last time we were there in April was 2013, so things may have changed since then.
I've also been in Amsterdam on 4/20, and have to admit I looked forward to it, but then when I found myself in the 420 Cafe on 4/20/2014 at 4:20pm crammed in with so many other people, counting down to "lift off", I actually felt kind of silly.
of course in Negril it is 20/4
Other than some small unofficial parties that may pop up...nothing has happened officially over the years in Negril for 4/20...
It's always 4/20 somewhere...
I have mixed feelings about the whole 4/20 thing.. Over here we have some cool events.. Growers and oil makers sponsor concerts and set up dab bars and smoke lounges.. Those are fun! Mostly because you get to try a bunch of flavors... Now that Iam older, what I don't care for is everyone walking around saying happy holiday all day.. Or throwing their own little 4/20 parties.. Smoking herb to me is not a party.. That being said, Iam glad this thread was started.. I was very curious if there would be anything like the stepping high festival, doesn't sound like it though

Exactly!
Agreed lol I think for a lot of people their trip to Negril is nothing but a big 420 party lol. I know not all tourists go there to smoke ganja or smoke it period but many do and over the years I have met lots of people and most of them older who only smoke ganja when they do got Jamaica and good for them. One of the things I have always loved about Jamaica and Negril is there are so many different types of tourists who all have their own reasons for going there and their own ways of enjoying their vacation time and that is a beautiful thing if you ask me. A lot has changed in Negril over the years but one thing I don't think has changed is the people who go there and enjoy it, each for their own reasons and in their own way. I think that's what makes Negril so special. How many other vacation destinations have such a loyal following of returning tourists who consider it so special and feel like it is their home away from home and care so much about it. Personally I can't think of any
Since I'll be in Negril on 4/20, let's create on then.
We (my husband and a couple friends) will also be in Negril on 4/20. Didn't realize this until reading this post. What shall we do on 4/20? lol. 5 more weeks. cant wait.

Hahah I like that one
Never been to Miyard, but heard of it on this board. Only our 2nd trip to Negril so there are lots of places We haven't been. But thanks to this board and all the info, we will be hitting many new bars/restaurants.
I don't get it (as Tom Hanks famously said in "Big"). You're in Jamaica; it's 4-20; 24-7!!!!
Mi yard is a great late nite place for food and drinks. It's open 24 hrs and the food is great, drinks are good and very reasonably priced. Our trips are never complete without a few late nights or really early morning parties at mi yard
