I want to take my parents and sister out for a nice dinner on the cliffs. Last time we were here we went to Ivan's and it was lovely but I'd like to try a different place. I was thinking Pushcart as I've seen it mentioned frequently here on the boards, but it's Murphy's currently a better option? Or perhaps another place. A scenic sunset view would be nice. TIA for any recommendations, I will let everyone know how our choice turns out!
We went to Murphy's in February and we didn't think it measured up to Ivan's or some other places on the Cliffs. It doesn't have the view and the portions were quite small -- we all had to go out for snacks later. Although the chef is definitely very good and the hospitality was fine, we didn't think it lived up to the recent rave reviews. Maybe it was just a bad night......
Recommend the Spa Retreat for food. No I don't work there :-)
Where is the Spa Retreat? I don't think I've heard of it. Also considering the Lodge at Tensing Pen now.
Hopefully it was just a bad night! Good to know about the view though...we're probably only doing one cliffs dinner so we want a good one.
I'd recommend LTU but I found the same problem sabu found at Murphy's..where's the beef?..LTU has been a must for me every year I go..22 now but after my last Feb. I have to pass...like sabu said my girlfriend & I had to go eat again later. My fav there is the chicken LOLA...smallest chicken breast I think I've in quite sometime & very little veggies & smashed potatoes. Ivans does it for me every time..big time portions & doggie bag usually..went 4 times this past visit & you just can't beat the wonderful vibe!
I second Blue Mahoe at the Spa Retreat. Tensing Pen is lovely, but you don't hear about many non-guests trying to go there for dinner.
Yeah I seem to remember reading some other reviews of LTU that said the same thing...that it wasn't as good as it had been, new management or chef or something?
I just googled Blue Mahoe at Spa Retreat, looks very nice... putting it on the shortlist.
Xtabi is nice. good view.
Although it's not fancy by no means, I love Three Dives.

I would agree with Spa Retreat. Beautiful resort and view....great staff...super bar...and great food!! The price is really pretty much the same as LTU, Kuyaba, Rockhouse, etc.
Really nice menu with a great variety of options. I don't think you will be disappointed.
We are almost definitely going to go to Blue Mahoe/Spa Retreat, based on all the great recommendations.
I do want to try out Quality's too but I wasn’t under the impression that it had a great view, but we are going to try and get there for another meal.
I've heard the food at Qualify is very good. This from people that cook and are picky eaters.
Pushcart is very good. We ate there twice last week when staying on the cliffs and have been there on previous trips as well. I hesitate to compare it directly to Ivan's since Ivan's seems to compete more with Rockhouse Restaurant, and seems to shoot for a more 'romantic' and 'upscale' feel than I see at Pushcart. Pushcart is casual, comfortable, and seems to specialize in Jamaican dishes (which is one reason we like it) but did not have the wider menu we have seen at Ivan's, Rockhouse, and some others. If Jamaican specialties are what you want then Pushcart is really good and there is live music almost every night.

Ate first time this March at LTU. The food tasted good until I found a very long human hair mixed in with the fish and cheese. When I called waitress over she said that it might be that the cook had just arrived and did not put a hairnet on yet. That was it.
I do not know why I did not said I wanted a replacement, see the manager or that I would not pay. When it came to pay the bill I mentioned about it and she took off the price of a bowl of soup. Also ordered coffee and they just had enough milk for my cup.
When I asked if they could just go down the road to the small grocery store and buy more I was told no.
I have been reading about LTU being so wonderful but not for me.
Ivans is very nice, totally different class in every way.
Go with them for a special on the cliffs evening.
Blue Mahoe is very very good, my second choice would be Xtabi ....looking forward to trying Quality
I want to also point out that, because of its location, Blue Mahoe has a very unique view. To the left its the cliffs and endless water view and to the right its the beach and sparkling lights(if your there after sunset) of 7 mile beach.. Haven't seen that view anywhere else in Negril. Ask for a table right by the wall for best view..
I"m going to spend a few nights at the spa retreat this fall for the first time and Im really looking forward to that view!!
Another vote for Spa Retreat. Stayed there last year and loved it. Plan on going over again for dinner in a few weeks.
We ate In ltu when we were there was very disapoited did not like the food at all we really liked Ivan and also 3 dives did not get to try the Spa maybe next time
