Does anyone else have this problem? You start planning your trip, setting up airfare and hotel...then....the other person backs out on you. This has happened to me more than once, and happened once again today. Now I'm stuck re-planning everything. I think I need to find more vacation committed friends! :(

I'm very very lucky to be travelling with girlfriends who start the count down to our next trip on the day return from our last. One girl teaches so we have to work around when she has class... but other than that no problem. If we say we are going to go then we GO... need to find new travel buddies.. gonna have to start coming with us rastagal! Good luck.. and I hope you are still coming for new years!
I book my trips intending to go solo. If a (good - no not-good ones allowed) friend wants to join me I'm still going where/when I want to, they are free to tag along.
That works GREAT for me.
Me too Liz. Plan it solo so you will get what you want from the trip and then invite peeps to join if they want. That way you are disappointed or constantly having to change plans.
This is precisely why I went on my first trip alone this year... too many times have a said lets go here and it's all yes! yay! until it's time to book. Then no one has saved no one has vacation everyone is broke. I was turning 30 and thought, screw this I'm not waiting on anyone anymore or I'll never get where I want to go. Everyone since I have been back has said "I wish I came!" "next time for sure" But I know this probably wont happen and if it does fine but I wont be planning my next trip to jamaica with anyone in mind but me and what I want to do. :)
Tic- Yes I am going to have to re-evaluate the hotel and maybe stay 1 less day
BeachGirl- Sounds like you have good travel buddies! I'm pretty sure I am still going to go ahead with the trip so I look forward to meeting you guys!
Manda- Those are exactly the excuses down to the tee...funny thing is yesterday I got a text saying "I'm not sure I can get the days off", then today " Something came up and I can't afford it right now". What a coincidence. LOL.
And yes to all the comments about the other person putting a damper on YOUR vacation. I have been embarrassed more than once...encountered the late sleeper and the party pooper.
Solo trips for me work fine, there are lots of Negril friends always around, and I can come and go as I please!

This happened to me a few years ago...my buddy pulled out AFTER spending $$ on airfare, deposit.
I now believe it was a blessing...solo in negril is a great vacation!
I agree with a previous poster: plan solo, let others join in to MY plans!
Yep...its happened a couple of times, when I first started travelling to JA....don't bother anymore...Solo all the way!
Twice i've had people drop out at last moment, now i book and tell them the dates and the last date they need to come up the money by, i've traveled solo last few times, means i can spent time winding Lisa up:D
I travel solo by choice ever since I had a disaster of a trip to the DR with a friend who made scenes and ditched the room we were supposed to be sharing so I had to foot the bill myself when I wasn't planning on it. The whole disaster took me by surprise as she was someone who I go out with a lot here at home. travel can tax the best of relationships. I would make an exception to the travel solo rule for a boyfriend or my family, but that is it.
I travel with "Me, Myself,and I"....They have been around the block a time or two...Airfare is cheap, they don't eat alot. They buy the drinks so that keeps all happy...!!
Sounds like you have your answer....book, pack and go...and if someone wants to join you let them do the same!
On one trip, I wish the couple would have backed out....stinks when you have to wait for them to go to bed, just so you can go out & have some FUN....without them pissing & moaning about anything & everything!
Well, this must happen more often than expected. Looks like I'll also be traveling solo to Negril. Had the trip all planned with a partner, but after the last trip with him, he wigged out on a drive between Memphis and Michigan, and having to listen to him scream and rant and make violent threats for 11 hours strait ...... It was pure hell! Wouldn't want to risk an irie time being spoiled by a piss-poor traveler. What sucks is that I made all the J'ca hotel reservations/deposits with my credit card.....looks like I'll be spending twice the cost for lodging than I had planned. Live and learn, I guess.. Arghh!

If you didn't do them as a package (Travelocity etc) ... CALL the resorts. Don't go too low, but they will almost always make a deal rather than lose a reservation, in my experience. Try 70% of your initial price.Quote:

I am going through the same thing right now. I found a Villa (Tropical Breeze) and got 10 people to say yes. All booked airfare (seat sale) now two of them are fighting. Wont travel together. I sat them down the other night and simply said you two have to suck it up... there are 8 others depnding on you paying your share...and once you get there - you will have a great time, I guarantee that! They agreed they could get along so full speed ahead! And no this isnt a couple!

You know what's funny. I booked even though my "friend" backed out, and I was Ok with it. Another friend of mine is now asking about going and checking airfare etc. and...I'm actually kind of bummed because I was in the solo state of mind! lol. But I doubt she will go through with it, the airfare is ridiculous over New Years!
oh Rastagal... you are going to have a blast whether you are solo or with someone.. can't wait to meet you.. are you staying at fun holiday? whats your travel dates?
