Airport to hotel transfer
Hello! Just looking for some advice on Airport to Hotel transfers. We've used the shuttles/buses before and spent way too long on the bus, several hours. Would we be better off not booking ahead of time and just grabbing a taxi outside the airport? There always seems to be an abundance of them. Would it be very expensive? Would also maybe like to stop for a drink on the way from airport to Negril. Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
You can get a private taxi/driver for probably $60 each way 1-2 persons, just make sure they have a red plate! Check out the transport link above.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
It's better to reserve ahead of time then to just grab a taxi outside the airport. They may attempt to price gouge you. Like CosmicMoose said, any of the drivers under the Transport link will be good.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
Thank you! Just thought I'd check and see if it was reasonable to wait or to have it arranged. We've always had it arranged, and the last time we went, the transfer was a nightmare. I had booked with our package. I will check out some of the companies listed. :)

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
I wouldn't pay more than the suggested $60 for one or two folks - airport to Negril area one way. no one can price gouge you if you are informed as to the going rates for goods and services. buyer's market. remember to use red plates.

Just to be clear - when you prearrange your transportation, it doesn't have to be with a shared shuttle service. In fact, most of the providers listed in Transportation link offer a private, chartered car or van. Therefore you are free to travel to Negril at your own pace, stopping anywhere you want to along the way.
We used a shared shuttle on our first trip to Negril, and will never do that again. We have hired Linston for our past few trips (most recently last week) and can definitely recommend him for airport transfers and excursions.

There are a lot of very good and reliable providers listed on this site. One thing good about them advertising here and having tourists use them is that it acts like a little "insurance" that you will get what you pay for. Businesses operate on reputations everywhere but no more than Jamaica. A few bad mentions and a provider may have to go back to Route Taxi driving again. Most will go out of their way to please and everyone here has their favorites. After all, many become some of our best friends in Jamaica.
30+ years of driving myself, going on the cheap with minibuses and trying a few recommendations has me now gladly satisfied with using Linston for my major moves around Jamaica. I live in the middle of the Cockpits and don't trust many drivers to take me over the very rough and dangerous roads and then also drive me to and from the airport at reasonable speed with a willingness to stop here and there as needed.
Linston is a quality driver (as with most on the board here) but also a close and trusted friend.
You can do worse but not much better at any price.
Respect and Big Up! to Linston!
Peace and Guidance

As others have said, there are a lot of good transportation company’s on this board. We’ve always been completely satisfied with http://luxuriouscaribtoursjamaica.com/

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
We have use Clive's for the past four years or so...on time...professional...friendly drivers...you can tell them to slow down..... :p

We'd rather fly but the fares now sort of make it prohibitive.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
What I have noticed is that many transportation companies are 1-2 people or up to 3 people. Any suggestions when you have 4-6 people?
Also, I did look at Clives and for 6 people it would be $260. Does that seem high?

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
Many excellent choices for transfers. I'll throw in a nod for Owen of cross Jamaica tours. Paid $50. One way. Owen had cold stripes waiting for us and provided us a phone for the duration of our stay. Was always there for us and went above and beyond on our behalf a number of times.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
His Dad isn't on the board to recommend him on every question about transportation - so allow me to suggest Kingsley's Take Care Tours - info under the transport link and his vehicles/prices are great for larger groups too:)

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
You get some generic drivers , the you get the real deal.... Linston, or Steve Positive ... that's my advice !!!

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
We use Linston every year. Safe driver and nice guy. You will probably pay a premium of $10-$20 for an airport taxi.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
I absolutely agree. Linston is a really nice guy, and very dependable. We hired him to take us from the Airport to Treasure Beach, then Treasure Beach to Negril, then to the beach and back from Catcha one day, and finally from Catcha back to the airport. I highly recommend Linston, and will definitely hire him again the next time we get to Jamaica.

That's a little high on pricing, Jammin. You may consider dropping it by ten bucks or so, unless you're that busy, then by all means carry on.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
Hi Tah,
We sincerely appreciate your feedback. As a Company we take into consideration all the aspects of taking clients on the road safely. Licensing, insurance, ongoing vehicle maintenance due to the lovely off roads we have to navigate for most of the tours, the price of petrol, websites hosting fees, advertising fees. plus monthly rental fees of a parking spot at Grand Palladium are all taken into account for our bottom line. Some carriers charge less, some more. That is what is so wonderful about Negril.com. It gives the boardies a chance to determine for themselves a price point that is in line with what they feel they are able to afford. Check out our reviews on TripAdvisor or our Facebook page, Coleman K Jammin Jamaica Tours, that showcases many pictures of our clients enjoying their tours.
Thanks and have a wonderful day! :)

Just remember to run it by him next time before you price your services.

Yeah, he should surely do that Accompong. I definitely wasn't just offering friendly advice. You are possibly the most condescending person that I have ever run across on the internet, and that's saying a lot. Now tell me again about where you "live", and how my way of viewing things is wrong.
I'll hang up and listen.

Re: Airport to hotel transfer
By no means were we trying to be condescending in any way, shape or form. Just giving a bit of incite into what it takes to keep a business going in high season and low. With other boardies stating the prices from other companies opening and transparently, we did not feel that advertising our price was a conflict. Perhaps a mistake was made, and we sincerely apologise if anyone was offended by our postings.
We wish you all well with Jah Blessings
Sincerely,

Apologies, Jane. My last comment was directed at the poster "Accompong". Not you in any way. I have never heard a bad word about your company. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
