Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
Will post while we can...
Currently...beautiful blue skies with small quick wind bands coming through...bands lasting about a minute.
For those that have not been through a hurricane...the outer bands are the first thing you experience.
They are strong winds followed by a calm. This is a repetitive cycle that can go on for hours or days.

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
Just talked to Linston. Current is off in Spring Garden (may be a JPS precaution)
Same wind bands

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
We talked with JPS and outage is just a screw up on their part. Our current has tried to come back a few times, but still out. So we are going out!
Taking our chargers with us!
More updates soon!

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
It looks like Matthew has dropped in speed as well as dropped south a bit- not sure how that's going to affect its path, but I'm hoping it stays as far east as possible. Good luck to all of you as you deal with Matthew.

Preparing on the beach. Alfred's pulled their tables off the sand and they are stacked behind the restaurant. They have also reinforced the dock moorings!

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
We have done all the pre-storm preparations and my Rastafarian friend "Freddy" and I are ready to ride it out whatever it brings. I live in So. Florida when not in Jamaica so I know a little bit about Hurricanes and I am giving this one respect but not freaking out about it either.
We are out on the West End off Breadnut Lane. Everything's done but the waiting.
Peace and Guidance. Be safe everyone.

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
Loads of people testing their generators...wish I had taken a colourful picture of the line of fishing boats on the river by the Negril bridge...fire engine testing lights etc and some of the hurricane parties have already started...

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
We filled 2,000 gallons of water tanks today.
I asked Linston today if we had kerosene lamps. Gone out of style I guess.
I have three here in Florida.
Now all we need is our old Singer kerosene refrigerator.
See you don't really need electricity

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
Blue skies...barely a breeze to be seen or felt this morning. As CaptD posted...Matthew's direct path has moved away from our Western side significantly.
-
Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
That is great news and lets hope it stays away! Stay safe our friends!

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
The air has cooled off a bit...humidity is quite low...the clouds are hanging thick, low and barely moving.
Feels pretty nice at the moment...it's been hot and humid for awhile now.
As I'm typing this...thunder in the distance and the wind just picked up slightly.

The first band of rain has passed us so the sky is clearing a bit. Here is a picture taken by the roundabout while it was raining.

Hard to truly guess...but it seems that heavier rain and wind will be continuous for about 24 hours starting Monday morning.
So far it's supposed to hit heavier on the eastern side of the island...so it will definitely be up to the airlines/airports whether you're coming in on Tuesday morning or maybe a little later.

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
Surprised that a friend was able to make the flight today. He said only about 30 people were on the plane, so clearly most changed their plans. Have a few friends showing up next week and hope they all make it in to spend some money. Saw some flooding in Kingston already and really hope the western parts of Jamaica are minimally impacted.

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
At sunset, cloudy, calm and tree frogs...

Re: Negril Live Updates - Hurricane Matthew
I wonder how cheaply you could get a flight to MBJ for tomorrow?
