About 9,104 dollars a day in Nigeria. The Naira is about 304 to 1 usd. Scary to drive there due to no drivers Ed whatsoever.Quote:

There are many people on here who rent scooters and should be able to help out. If you are not an experienced operator, this is not the place to learn. We have seen a lot of road rash over the years. After a short rain the roads can be slick like ice. And of course, wear a helmet should you choose to rent one.
I dont rent (got a car) so there are others more qualified to answer...
Cool! looking to ride from our hotel to local eatery and around the cliffs. not a chance in going down to the beach area that's why there's cabs. I guess spell check changed my post thanks tube for picking that up for me.

I would say to closely observe the road conditions and the way people drive in Jamaica for a couple of days. Then decide if your confidence and driving skills match the challenges of driving a scooter in Negril. If you have any doubt, don't do it. If you do rent a scooter, have fun, but remember to always drive safely.
As for the cost of renting a scooter, I think $25 or $30 US per day would be about right. The longer you rent, the lower the price should be. Alternatively $25 or $30 a day will pay for a few local cab rides.
Hire a driver....much more fun and safe and probably not much money. Seriously, why take a chance on an accident or someone running in to you....

I usually rent a scooter for my stay in negril. I always get a really good deal from a friend and dont need a visa or deposit but average price is as mentioned above and you will get a better rate if you rent it for a longer period. Just drive withing your limits and be aware. One thing i do is buy a bracelete from one of the vendors on the beach and put it on my left wrist to remind me of what side of the road i should be driving on. I love having my own transportation to get me to the red dragon for my daily fix of jerk pork on the days they have it and to get me to the canoe bar every morning to go snorkeling. If i know i am going to have than a few beer i leave it parked and find an alternate form of transportation. The roads are dangerous enough without adding alcohol lol. Have fun and be safe
I live here year round and have my own scooter. You can't believe how many close calls I've had. One thing that almost got me twice is jacans stopping abruptly in the road and then putting the car in reverse and backing up without even lookingback. It really takes months of driving to get used to the pitfalls of driving here. Do not drive in the rain, you can't see the potholes and you will hit one. I recently went to Sav and before I got to little london there is a stretch of road with no homes or people. There was a scooter behind me with two dudes on it. Soon as I got to this spot they came up on me, I kept checking them in my mirror they were right behind me I just kept going as fast as I could. Then I couldn't see them at all, when I turned around they weren't but two feet behind me. I just floored it and figured if they mess with me all they will have is a dead white guy and a mashed up scooter. As I got to little london they blew past me and yelled something bla bla whiteman bla bla. Do not leave Negril on a scooter, not to little bay or orange hill or anywhere. One love and I recommend you take a taxi.

Some folks feel that if they are visiting Negril or other vacation spots, they can go drinking and then jump on a scooter "no problem". I have even done it myself in my careless, idiotic youth but now I realize how dangerous a thing it is to do.

Funny that you mention this. On our last trip, we arrived during a pretty heavy rainfall. Just as we got to Negril, I noticed that much of the Beach Road was flooded. Linston was driving very cautiously and seemed to be driving around certain areas. He turned and said to me, "Whenever it rains in Jamaica, you have to memorize where the potholes are". He was right. Another reason why I leave the driving to professionals.Quote:

I lost a week vacation because of the corner at 3 dives and a likkle rain, seams there is a lot of oil on the pavement , I will still rent but I'll be way more careful, oh and my Credit card was used to buy electronics in Kingston after I left so I'll also put down cash as security deposit
Ya Negril1990..I know exactly what you mean on that corner...it's a tight one for sure even when it's dry...so slow as she goes right there...I stay in the West End so I hit that corner at these twice a day to & from the beach...but I've never had a issue with my credit card as a deposit..& always pay the entire 6 week rental up front in cash with all the three I've rented from...gotta make sure you get that hard copy back though.
