Cosmos, still have the beach?
Once upon a time.
Many, many moons ago.
I went to the place known as Cosmo's.
Actually, I have a friend with a nick name Cosmo.
I thought that was pretty funny.
So, I hopped out of a Route Taxi and went in to check it out.
Very nice.
Laid back sort of like an outdoor seating area they had back then.
I ate a fine meal.
(Haven't been back in maybe 10 years)
Then I walked toward the rear of the restaurant and made it to the water.
I looked to my right and
"Wow, there was a very nice big expanse of beach area".
There were a few locals about 40 yards away, and that was it.
It almost seemed deserted.
I was alone, so I did not stay and have much fun.
I was just wondering if a person still
can walk to the back of Cosmo's and enter pon the beach area?

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
Cosmo Brown's place is the only beach we go to. I've know him for 36 years
Here's a short video from last year:

Nice restaurant...nice beach area...excellent service...nice showers...

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
Unlike other places Cosmo runs a tight ship and is on site every day. His primary clientele are middle class Jamaicans And visitors are always made to feel at home.
Try the red bean soup with pig tail and a side of bammy.

Love Cosmos! Just note - there is a small charge to rent a lounge chair.

Just to expand on that...to spend the day/few hours on the beach is one fee and a second fee for the lounge chair...might as well get the chair. :)

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
Oh, I did not know there is a fee to be "ON" that beach.
This is different.
So, I travel with one of those
folding/umbrella chairs.
If I stop and sit there, I must pay a fee?
Thanks

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
MS...there is a fee to use their beach...if I'm remembering correctly it's approx. 400-500j.
It's an extra fee if you require a chair (approx. 150-200j)...you can bring your own chair but you can't bring your own food or drink.
There is no fee to eat in their restaurant.

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
There is a huge expanse of open beach immediately adjacent to and north of the "cosmo" beach.

First place I go for dinner when I get to Negril. Cosmo is a great guy been chatting it up with him for years. Conch soup is very good.

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
The fee is to use the facilities as well as the beach. As stoners6 notes, there's a very long public beach north of Cosmo's.
I've been hanging out at Cosmo's since first trip in 1984. There isn't anything on the menu that isn't as good as it gets in simple Jamaican specialties. I love the steam or fried fish and bammy, curry conch, conch bits and chips, curry goat, stew peas, Oxtail and all the soups are great. Last winter, we met friends at a swanky restaurant and the food can't hold a candle to Cosmo's. Thank you, Cosmo Brown!

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
I used to really love Cosmos but I had a negative experience that really turned me off. Christmas Holiday 2015, my family of @20 showed up for dinner around 6:30. As we proceeded to our tables, we were told staff were on break and could not serve us. We were stunned and my dad asked why would the servers be on break during the dinner hour. The response was "don't you think staff deserve a break". Of course staff deserve a break but during dinner is not the right time. I'm not too sure why this happened....although I think I have an idea -- wouldn't be the first time. I was most disappointed b/c I was looking forward to enjoying my red pea soup. Thankfully there are other restaurant choices so we ended up at Sweet Spice. I can now add Cosmos to my list of never returning.

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
I can't figure how that happened but I'll bet Como would have fired the staff the next day

We were shocked it happen especially since it was a manager who delivered the message. We were a group of @20 people from ages 8 to 73.

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
Cosmos has always been our "go to" place for a good meal. The conch soup and some bread is a meal in itself (for me at least).

Re: Cosmos, still have the beach?
The area is so beautiful that a few years ago Sports Illustrated did part of their Swim Suit Issue photo shoot at Cosmos.
Last April the shop was closed. Not sure of the status this season. The swimsuit model was NOT there also.

Yes I remember her! She distracted me from my bread and conch soup! :p
