planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
I've done the YS Falls, Pelican Bar in one day...never had the interest to do the Appleton Rum Tour, but have some of our group interested...
a few questions as I gather info
Is this too much for one day, will we be rushed at the end of the trip?
any contact for the boat guys for pelican and what is the average rate now?
anyone have any good stories or trip reports about these trips?
how long is the appleton tour, anyone know the hours,
-
Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Appleton tours are 2 hours and run from 9-3:30
I found a post about captain Dennis
I'm worried it's too much for one day, but I'm having trouble choosing two of the three activities. I'd love to do pelican bar, but go back and forth with Appleton and YS falls. Appleton suits my personal interests more than YS, but I know YS will be beautiful!

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
i dont think its to much.......................think of it as killing 3 birds with a stone>>>>>>>>>>>>theRUM tour is the only variable..................... we walked around for 20 mins then went to the tasting room...lol
at appleton estates WE ARE RUMPEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
The Appleton website says allow two hours for the tour. If it's less that would be ok, then we could move on to YS.

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Theres no way I'm am dealing with a bus ride with all you all without a visit ti Ys, i'm thinking we just go, party , find a hotel/motel and do an over night thing...just saying :)

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
This is just my opinion but when I go to Jamaica I want to relax, not travel a marathon of tour locations. I would rather see one or two locations and have time to enjoy it. We went to Pelican Bar a number of years ago with Rocky of Rocky's Tours. In fact that was even the first time Rocky had been there. We went to Parottee Beach and took a boat from there. The boat ride was only a mile or two unlike when you use Captain Dennis you have a long boat ride. We also had a little tour of some vendors at Black River. That made for a long enough day for us.

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Chuck, that's what I am saying, we could just stay there, and have a slumber party !! :)

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
I'd rather cut the tour short than sleep over. I'm already paying for my room in Negril!
I guess if I had to choose, I'd pick YS falls and pelican bar, and save Appleton for another trip. It's going to be a long day as it is, and we'd have to leave Negril around 8:30 am just to fit it all in before sunset.
Good tip about captain Dennis, chuck! I just came across his info, hadn't looked into him further.

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Livin, I agree, I could totally pass onAppleton, in fact if we don't do Ys, I might just skip, pretty hot in April those falls will feel pretty good mid day !!!!

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of YS then Pelican, or vice versa... maybe Pelican for lunch then the falls... but I wouldn't want anyone getting drunk and falling down the falls and getting hurt... so maybe falls, drinks at pelican, and late lunch at that place Orbra mentioned? Maybe people can just pack snacks, and there is a snack bar at the falls, right?
Bill was the first to mention Appleton, so I'd love to get his thoughts, and everyone else for that matter.
Groove16 reminded me that its still 6 months away, but like you all know, I'm a bit of an over-planner! plus, I'm just really excited!!!

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Advice- do not bring so many people that you need a bus........
Coming back from Pelican bar at sunset is beautiful. YS is a nice chill spot if you take the whole place in, use the pools and relax. Food options suck, but you do have the cook shop just down the road(Howie's?).

We bring so many people because that many people want to go.We use a trusted driver, last year two, to transport us. It is part of the boardie bash week festivities. JDdThat kind of advice is not needed on this thread. Many of the guests during this week have been traveling or living in Jamaica for years and years. We take allnecessary precautions. Also, JDd, did you see the pm I sent a you?
Groove16, the point about Appleton may be mute. I just ready that Appleton is going to do a HUGE Reno and won't be operating tours during the construction. Unsure of the trustworthiness of the article or the duration of the construction. Edited to add: just saw bnewb added a gleaner article too!
Research to be continued!

Any tour that doesn't use up taking the entire day is good with us,i think 3 in one day would be a bit much and we are open to any of them y'all want to do.I can always look at rum in the store at the round a bout!!

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Thanks for all the input...
I have chartered a bus for the last 3 years during april....the last 2 have been with my buddy, lenbert and his party bus...each has had over 20, did a half day to half moon, and calico jacks...did a longer day at blue hole with a scenic route home through westend, ending with dinner at 3 dives...each time, I have wanted to pull my hair out during the planning especially a day or 2 before the excursion...but tge end result made it all worth while...we always have a blast...
I have had to fight with our destinations everyone to remind them of our prearranged agreements...lenbert stepped in and heloped with my last fight...lol...this is why I am trying to cover all the bases I can think of...
Again, appreciate the input and welcome more suggestions...looks like appleton is out...cool, I never had much interest in it, but was trying to accommodate my friends...lol

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Bnewb shared another article that indicates the Tour will resume in early 2017!
Still, I think if I had to leave out one of the attractions, I'd choose to forego the Tour and do the YS and Pelican combo.

Re: planning a tour...need advice...appleton, YS, Pelican
Livin...it doesn't say when the tours start again...but the factory will be reopened in January 2017 according to the article I linked.
