Where's the good food these days?
10th trip coming up next week, staying on the beach. We usually end up cliff side for most dinners, just haven't found anyplace we're crazy about on the beach. For lunch, it's usually jerk pork from Dean or a box lunch from Sweet Spot or we just eat at Chill Awhile. Also like the fish and chips at Alfred's and some things at Rainbow Arch. Breakfast usually at Chill Awhile or Country Country.
For this trip, I've got a 100 candle dinner at Ivan's, will go try Quality Seafood on the night they have reggae, will make our usual trips to 3 Dives and LTU.
Anything really good pop up in the last two years since our last trip or other suggestions?

They serve food now too.

Re: Where's the good food these days?

Re: Where's the good food these days?
Thanks. Haven't been to Cosmo's in a few trips, will have to check it out again. Been to Canoe several times. Stopped at Just Natural on the bar crawl last trip, cool place, will have to check out the food. Usually don't like to head up to the West End until later, prefer to hang on the beach during the day. Will have to check out Angela's and Kenny's. Didn't care for Kuyabs, haven't tried Charela yet. Keep em coming.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
If on the beach I might suggest Montana's, across the street from Whistling Bird. Great breakfast, lunch or dinner. We go for breakfast. Good, and cheap. Very cold bokkle water, ting, or Red Stripe if you wish (I usually end breakfast with one!!!).

Re: Where's the good food these days?
Def get some fried chicken at Connie's and see if she has my potato salad on the menu yet. ;)
Also Kool Vybes has some of the best jerk chicken I've had, even awesome without any extra sauce.
And if you have not been there yet, I'd highly recommend Chicken Lavish, they had some of the most tender chicken I've ever had.
Enjoy!

Re: Where's the good food these days?
Angela's is a must! I have been fortunate enough to travel to quite a few different places in my life and Angela's is the best Italian restaurant I have found. It is soooooooooo good!

Kenney's also delivers, for those days when just want to chill and have dinner on your veranda. Solid Chinese food and large portions.
We went to Murphy's once and it didn't live up to hype on Trip Advisor. Most of the reviews appear to be from people who took one trip off the AI and this was their only taste of local food. You would do better at Pablo's or Erica's - similar menu, better prices.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
I'm going to have to drive by Erica's again...their main wooden building was torn down awhile back. There's another building on the land but I'm not sure they've opened that up...the land was not well kept/landscaped.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
Glad to hear about Kenney's delivering, sometimes we get so lazy, wonder why :). I've been reluctant to try Chinese in JA, but have heard great things about them.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
I went to Woodstock on the beach for the first time. Their lobster was to die for. It was by far the best I have had in Negril in many years (yes I have had it at all of the usual places). It was pricy though and you have to order sides separately. That being said, I would go back.
I have posted this pix before.

That's distressing news. Hungry Lion is our favorite restaurant in Negril. Anyone know specific info about them?

Very distressing. There's a special place in my heart for Hungry Lion. If this remains so, I'll deeply regret adding it to the lengthy list of places gone. My favorite sign/logo in Negril, too. Deepest regrets --Marblehead

Rooms is on the Beach. Quality's Sea Breeze is on West End road. The last I knew, he was offering transportation. Give him a call and ask.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
You simply can't go wrong at Sea Star (it's been almost 3 years since I've been down so maybe that's changed) but the food and prices are excellent and the atmosphere is great.
Red Dragon is also beyond compare but you have to time it right for their pork lunch.
Don't miss it if you can help it.
Again I haven't been down in a couple years but I sincerely hope the Red Dragon hasn't changed - coldest beer in town too, that I guarantee.

Re: Where's the good food these days?
saeyedoc,
Thanks for posting this! :) We're heading down in a couple months for trip number 9 (I think?). We are always looking for new places to try. I, too, have been wary of trying Chinese food in Negril, but might give it a go. Thanks to everyone for your ideas!
