Is the water from the bathroom tap good for drinking, making coffee?? Thanks
Absolutely, the water is great for drinking... I drink a lot of it everyday, and don't even bother with bottled water !
Water out of the pipe is awesome...some bottled water has added sodium.
Water.. No Problem.. Good in Rum !!
Just got back from Mexico where I had to buy 5 gallon jugs of "purified water" for drinking, making coffee, etc. My wife even used it to brush her teeth because she was nervous about getting sick.
I miss the clean tap water in Jamaica.
OK - water good - one more question answered. Thanks for the help
The water is excellent. We do usually buy a big bottle of Wata and then refill that in the restaurant kitchen where we stay. I'm sure the water in the bathrooms is clean, but its sometime hard to fill bottles up.
wata always been great in Jamaica.....though wi do get bouts of NO WATA here on the West End.......
people go to Mexico still? haven't been in over 15 years for a lot of reasons......
Cool Runnings, Marko
Yup, this was my first trip there in over 15 years, as well. Being on a budget this winter, the low airfare to CUN (half of that to MBJ) and the relatively low peak season hotel rates made it an attractive option. I did my research and found a safe town with a cool, local vibe. Even the local food was cheap enough that I found it easy to stick to $100/day budget for 2. Still, I missed Negril, but will save that trip for the slow season when things are more affordable.
Philly Tap - I drank it when I lived there.
Miami Tap - I drank it when I lived there.
Negril Tap - I drink it when I visit there.
Cheers.
strangely a lot of locals won't drink the water, our driver said he doesn't trust it.
No surprise there. After all this IS Jamaica where a deep distrust of the government is common and judging from where the government has been in the past, probably has some merit but......
The water system inherited from the Colonial Government was very good and remains so (for the most part) to this day especially in touristy areas.
I live in an area with no pipe water and drink captured rain water without treatment and (to date) with no consequences though I am changing that this year is a filtration system.
The water in Negril is (I believe) very safe to drink.
Peace and Guidance
I think our driver has an inherent mistrust of the government. For good reason. They just built a big power plant next to his house which violated the zoning and was done with bribes. He's in a big fight with them.
We buy 3 bokkles of wata from Chineymon on the way into town, fill them up out of the tap the rest of the week. Keep them cold in fridge or cooler. Gotta stay hydrated when drinking beer and rum in the hot sun all day. Love the Jamaican tap water.
we love the Ja tap water, very soon come
Mexico and Cuba are cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
save water.......drink beer
