Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Heck no!, just don't stay at the resort!! GO out and see the real beauty of Jamaica!! Dinner try the Quality Sea breeze across from Canoe. Bar crawl is a MUST!!! There are plenty of Negril.com people there now , some are about to head out this weekend. Try out Mayfield Falls. Hire a driver and just GO!! (do you have a driver?)
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
isn't sandy haven a hotel? as compared to a resort?
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Get out as much as you can. Try as many bars and restruants as you can and get away from negril and go to one of the waterfalls or other attractions at least once. Negril is great but there is so much more to see that lets you experience more of the culture and beauty of Jamaica. Just use common sence as to not put yourself in situations that you wouldnt put yourself in at home and do it safely. To many people never venture out from where they stay and have no idea what they are missing out on. Jamaica is a beautyfull country and most of the people there are really friendly and kind. Enjoy it, respect it and take in as much as you can and you most likely want to return as often as you can. Some of my best days in Jamaica were days i just went off with no particular destination in mind and no expectations and had ended up having a wonderfull time

Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Things I like to do in Negril, or things I want to do, or things I did once and am glad I did:
live music and dancehall djs: Boat Bar, Woodstock, Drifter's, Alfred's, Roots Bamboo, Bourbon Beach, the Jungle, SeaStar Inn, etc
half day trips: Half Moon Beach, Blue Hole
day trips: Mayfield Falls, YS Falls, Floyd's Pelican Bar
Eats and Drinks: too many to mention! Just wander until you find a spot to settle in for a little while, or a grab and go brew
try it once: Rick's Cafe- it's an overpriced tourist trap, but worth one stop. If it's not your scene, just wander up the road a bit and find a quieter place like LTU pub. Also, if you like the scene, Margaritaville draws a good crowd- find out when they are hosting parties, I think I read it's Fridays
snorkel the cliffs, take a boat ride, walk the beach, get some touristy souvenirs, volunteer at the St Anthony's kitchen, play pool, play dominoes... relax!
the One Love Bus is fantastic!
Be sure to get out and about. It's smart to take a taxi at night. Exchange cash. Have a blast!
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip

Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
There use to be a list that I have seen posted every now and then listing all the bars along the beach and west end and when their happy hours are. I'll see if I can find it.
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
This is 5 years old so I cannot verify if it is still accurate but I hope it helps.
White Sands 2 for 1 drink specials till 4PM
Legends and SamSara Happy Hour 4 - 7PM
YellowBird Happy Hour 4 to sunset on da beach
Rockhouse 6-7pm
SeaStar Inn Happy Hour 4-6pm
Canoe Happy Hour 2-6pm - 2 for 1 Red Stripes $200J's
Coco LaPalm 2 for one Happy Hour from 5 to 7 every night but Monday
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Be sure to check out the Jungle night club, walk the beach and check out all of the bars during the day. Spend an afternoon on the west end. Dinner at De Bar for jerk chicken is awesome. Canoe is a fun place for happy hour as well.
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Thursday night at the Jungle. Wear your big boy pants.

I believe the correct White Sands deal is "two drinks for one price" ......... not exactly a 2 for 1 bargain but still cheaper then buying two at regular prices. Every day is a different drink. Someone has to have a photo of the daily drink menu.

Almost every "2 for 1" deal is like that, like the Canoe lobster night. 2 for one price, not 2 for the price of 1. Like you said, still a fair deal. White Sands with tip is usually about $1000J for two

Lobster dinner deals are more common this way...but I've only seen White Sands offer a 2 for one price on drinks.
Bourbon Beach, Dru's at Waves Beach Park, Drifter's during their shows, Canoe...all offer beer bucket specials.
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Should we change money? Are credit cards accepted ? Thanks again. Great info!
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Yes and yes...
I'd exchange to Jamaica dollars. Not sure where you're from, but US dollars are widely accepted, and I believe CAD are too, there are many reasons to exchange- primarily, you are in jamaica, so use Jamaican dollars.
While credit cards are widely accepted at many hotels, restaurants, and bars, credit card fraud is a ceoncern, as it is everywhere, so be certain to ensure your credit card has a zero or limited liability policy in case of fraud, and be sure to monitor your statements carefully for many months.
I prefer to use cash whenever possible. I have not had any problems using the scotia bank ATM at the roundabout to withdraw cash. That said, you could have the similar fraud concerns wi an ATM machine, so monitor closely if you must use a credit or debit card of any sort.
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
don't believe anyone mentioned this but from personal experience and having traveled to negril solo in my 20's , you will have lots of girlfriends if you choose. don't lose control unless you have left ur jewlry and most of your cash at home .
Re: 2 single guys 1st trip
Chill Awhile at Idle Awhile is a nice spot for lunch and a few cocktails. Gorgeous little hotel and restaurant.
