i visited Jamwest in Feb on a bike, so cool, i will make sure i see a race next Feb, soon come
Here is some background on the CMRC:
"Regional motor sport rivalry is nothing new – racing drivers and motorcyclists have fought for supremacy for 60 years or so, something which surprises many outside the Caribbean, who see cricket as the region’s major sport. Not so! Organised motor sport has existed since the 1950s, with travel between the territories common even in the early years . . . long before some marketeer coined the phrase ‘sports tourism’. There was a short-lived Caribbean Championship in the 1970s, when single-seater racing cars were still common, while the current series has been running for a little over two decades. As it is now titled, the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) is fought out over four rounds – each is hosted in a different country, Barbados (which joined the CMRC in 2008), Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, which returned to the series in 2014, after an eight-year absence. The CMRC is administered by the Caribbean Motor Racing Association, comprising representatives of the host nations, with Seaboard Marine as title sponsor.*While the support of Seaboard Marine, which trans-ships the competition machinery and parts around the region, is hugely important, there remain those competitors whose budgets prevent them contesting every round, or whose local race schedules clash. A dropped scores system means they can still achieve a worthwhile result – drivers will count their best nine results from the potential total of 12 races."

Ryan, looks like we are going to maybe make a trip next year. My boy said, "Dad can we plan our trip next year so we can go to Jamwest?" I said you know it son!! I told him, I remember the track prep guy, saw I had a racing shirt on and waved us from the stands and brought us down to the staging area. And I rode a few time times down the track with a young fellow racer. I told him, next trip out, I would like to race the next time we can back. He said mon, I can make that happen. lol, I said count me in mon!!
We will be having updates live from the races Saturday and Sunday. There is a buzz from the international teams about how great the track is, wet or dry. Although we all are hoping for a dry track!
More to come!
Linston says he can hear the cars from Zion Hill.

Cycle and Auto racing can be dangerous. A wall I jumped over a dozen or more times the past two days got taken out. Jamaican drivers, Doug Gore and David Summerbell Jr were involved in an accident today just moments before I left. I also saw three track marshalls being injured within that incident.
All reports are supporting the idea of minor injuries, and we wish for a speedy recovery for all.
And yes it does make me wonder how smart it was to take the above picture...
As we all know, accidents are a part of racing, and the Jamwest emergency crews from Omega were top notch. The fact no one was seriously injured is wonderful news.
All in all, even with the accident it was an incredible day for racing in Little London at Jamwest!
Good times!!
I've been involved with track day events in the northeast for 8 years and I'm a trained PCA instructor. I was excited when this track developed so close to Negril, but I have always been suspect of its safety preparations. Motorsports ARE dangerous, but they don't have to be deadly and it's the track's responsibility to keep drivers, staff and spectators safe in the event of an incident.
The incident mentioned above is a testament to whomever constructed the safety systems of the race car, not so much the race track. From photos I have seen, this track has nearly no runoff areas, uses minimal tire barriers that appear unsecured, uses hard concrete vs. energy absorbing Armco walls. The track layout is such that an incident in one turn could easily interfere with another portion of the track. Minimal fencing exists, is not very tall, especially around designated spectator areas, and it appears from your photos, those spectator areas are loosely enforced or designed. Not only unsafe for a spectator, but potentially very distracting for a driver.
I really want this facility to succeed, but it's only a matter of time before a preventable incident occurs. I hope as the track evolves to host more and more larger races and events, team owners and drivers voice the need for safety upgrades.
Joshua,
Surpring you mentioned the drivers and race teams voices because those who had never visited the track before commented on how many useful runoff areas that there are. They also were pleased with with other safety aspects of the track as their families were in the viewing stands.
In my pictures, I took them at some risk to myself as to feature the subjects and not the series of fences, walls and chain link fencing which would have ruined the photos.
Please feel free visit the track and take a few laps for yourself. When I saw the accident, I assumed someone had to be seriously hurt. But due to the impact absorbing designed into the track, the injuries we're minor.
No track will ever be designed to be absolutely safe as motor racing, by it's very nature is dangerous sport.
JamWest is a very nice place to visit. I saw pictures of the wreck, lucky it was the start of the race, just a weird deal IMO. My 1st place that I tried and eat chicken foot soup. Next reach, going to plan it around the race.
Mark Maloney got some airtime at Cmrc last sunday :)
