Day 1

We were up, packed and ready for our 3 AM Uber ride. I am going to miss these guys. Negril, here we come:)
We flew from Nashville and connected in Orlando to Mobay. Time for a few bloody Mary's and coffee to keep us awake. When we landed in Mobay, the Pilot filled the cabin with some sweet Bob Marley tunes. Attachment 48160
We had about a 45 minute wait in line to get through customs. I admit I was envious of those that used Club Mobay to get around the long line. The kiosks definitely helped expedite things. We were picked up by our driver with Luxurious and swept off to Negril. We tried to reserve a phone the day before but due to my last minute request, they didn't have any available. Neither of our I Phones worked the entire trip in JA to call US though we were able to text. I must be missing something on that front? We didn't stop anywhere for supplies (other than a few beers) because I didn't plan to doing much food prep this trip. My favorite part of the drive is Lucea. One day I would like to go do some exploring there, but we always feel like there's not enough time to get it all in. Our driver Dwight called Lucea home. He pointed out a sausage and molasses factory and a school that was founded in 1777 which he attended. For some reason, I love seeing all the clothes drying out on lines.
The last time we were in Negril, we were walking past Nirvana and tried to get a photo of me on the hammock. Security swiftly asked us to leave the property. I was determined to stay there this trip so I could kick back on that hammock as much as I wanted with no worries mon. We opted for a Veranda suite on the beach. It did not disappoint. The day we arrived, there was only one other couple staying here and that was NH Jeff and his wife. We virtually had the entire property to ourselves. Nirvana is a great spot for ratio of beach versus occupants as I think they only have 8 units to rent on a really nice stretch of beach that is also set way back from the water. Here's a picture of our view from our room the first day. Attachment 48161
We were both starving and exhausted. We walked next door to White Sands hoping for some dinner but their kitchen was closed. The bartender introduced us to the cook next door at rainbow arch. We had dinner there, fried fish and fries and jerk chicken with rice and peas. Not the best food I've had in Negril but it did the trick for now. The cook there was very accommodating and kind. Time for our first Sunset. You know where I was spending that.Attachment 48170
Very nice! Looking forward to reading more.
Can't wait to read more! Staying there later this month and hoping your report gets me through...keep it coming!
^^^agreed!!
Nice place to stay and it looked as if you were settling in for the night in the hammock ;)
Nice photos and Trip Report!
More please....
Enjoy,
VVHT
So after chilling out a bit, even though we JUST ate, we were hungry again and restless. We decided to walk down the beach to Chances. We were glad we made that decision. They had a great band playing. We pulled up a seat on the beach and enjoyed some beers and a Shrimp Pizza. I am not a huge pizza fan but it was right on time. Attachment 48176
We headed back to our room. There were no windows in our room, only screens with shutters. It was hot and I'm an AC junky. I closed up all the shutters and blasted the AC. A few more red stripe lights and off to sleep I went at 11 PM. I am feeling 50 though not quite there yet for a few more days:)
Day 2
I woke up way after the sun came up which is unusual for me. I made some tea and DH *dear husband* made a pot of blue mountain. We were happy to find a Mr. Coffee type coffee maker in our suite along with someones left over coffee filters. We sat on the porch and enjoyed some subs with the view. I don't indulge in subs normally so DH was happy to see me getting happy. Thank you Mr. Security Guard for the kind hook up. I had a case of severe munchies. I read many times on this forum about the great breakfast buffet at Tree House, so off we went. We were offered boat rides, ganga, bracelets and all the other norm on our walk. God I love this place.
The breakfast was spot on, with an array of fresh fruit, corn porridge (I think that's what it was called?), grits, bacon, ham, callaloo and eggs made to order for the price of $13 a person. That also included juice and coffee. Pretty sweet deal. Here's a couple of pictures. They are not that great because I didn't want to disrespect those that were working or enjoying breakfast. This place was rocking and packed on a Monday morning.Attachment 48177Attachment 48179
We walked back to Nirvana and ran into our fellow boardie, NH Jeff and his wife, Marina. It appeared Sand Gravity got the best of them. Attachment 48186
We decided to chill on the beach also. We went swimming. I was stung several times by jelly fish, not major stings, but definitely enough to hurt. I asked our guard Errol for advice. He said to make a paste out of wet sand and scrub the sting area, which I did. It offered relief after 15 minutes. Attachment 48187
Today is the day we get to hook up with our good friend Mr. T. I met him on our first trip 6 years ago. We talk every Sunday and share our dreams with each other. I texted him and he said he'd come over. I went in to take a shower- no water or electricity. Time to sit back and enjoy a sub and continue enjoying the view from our porch. We also got a visitor. Our visitor enjoyed a nice bowl of cold milk and came back daily afterwards for the same indulgence. Attachment 48188Attachment 48189 Her new name is Ms. Ears.
Our water finally came back on. My favorite thing about our room was we had an outdoor shower in a beautiful garden. I never experienced the outdoor shower thing, though I realize now they are pretty common. I never even used our indoor shower.
Can't get the pictures the right way for some reason.
Mr. T finally arrived! So good to see an old friend. Attachment 48193
Great report and pictures, looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing!
Yah.... I could never do the outdoor shower thing, in my blurry mornings, I would surely forget and walk out with no clothes on... :)...................................
Tried to peep over fro the White Sands to find you every now and then, but didn't ever see ya, we all are so busy running around, glad you had a great time !!
After chilling a bit we all decided to walk down the beach, with the destination of the corner bar in mind. We need to go to hilo for a few supplies too. DH stopped at a shop along the way to shop for drums to add to our JA drum collection at home. We hit Bourbon Beach for cold Red Stripe and some rum punch. yummy on a hot day. I have been craving the fried chicken from corner bar for 2 years. Something was different with the chicken this time and it had some kind of sauce on it (BBQ?) It was still delish, just different. I shared by chicken with 2 little puppies that stopped by our outside table. They were street smart. I put 10 fries on the pavement for them and they didn't eat them and instead only wanted chicken. First time I saw that happen. Attachment 48197Attachment 48198Attachment 48199Attachment 48200Attachment 48201
After dinner, We went to HiLo for a few supplies. I decided I wanted to make us all brunch the following day and purchased necessary supplies. While at HiLo, Mr. T said I had to get some Tastee cheese and buns. He said his family always eats it for Easter. Sweet bun bread and cheese wasn't sounding good to me at the moment but I'll give it a go. I bought several bottles of rum and coffee while I was there too.Attachment 48203
We headed back to the Nirvana and Mr. T went home. I think we wore him out. I booked a massage the following day for us both with Sandra and Anika, 2 masseuses that come to Nirvana on a regular basis. We went to bed early and woke up late.
Day 3
Because we woke up so late, I decided to cancel the brunch cooking idea. I hit the beach instead. We bought some fruit and coco bread and chocolate cake on the beach. We had a Finnish Jamaican breakfast- Cucumber & cheese sandwiches, coffee, cake and fruit. yum. Attachment 48205

Time to work out the knots.Attachment 48208
After we got massages (Anika is the better masseuse out of the two..more on that later), Mr T came over and we headed to town to figure out a plan for getting the I phone we brought for him unlocked. Digicel couldn't or wouldn't do it so we went to a phone shop that I think was called Juicy Jays? We had to leave the phone there for 2 days (they actually had it done it one day). We then headed to Canoe. I had every intention of searching for Sea Glass but the Dirty bananas led to even more dirty bananas and the sea glass searching never did occur. We ordered conch fritters, fried plantains and fries as appetizers to the dinner that I was really looking forward to at Quality across the street from Canoe. Attachment 48209Attachment 48210Attachment 48211Attachment 48212Attachment 48213
The bartender at Canoe has beautiful eyes. I tell her that every time I see her.
I think this report is turning into a Negril Foodie report. Sorry.
After several more cocktails, and subs, we decided to go across the street to Quality, owned by a guy that goes by the name of Quality. Mr. T grew up with Quality (Alfred) and said he was a wood carver that also has a shop just down the road. We ordered a round of drinks. I could swear I saw on this forum somewhere that they served a red snapper stuffed with callaloo and cheese. I asked the waitress for exactly that but she said that is not on the menu and never has been. Bummer. I opted for Escovitch red snapper with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. DH & Mr. T had fish with coconut sauce. This meal did not disappoint and is one of the best I've had in Negril. Quality came out to hang out with us for an hour and we talked. I asked him how he got into the restaurant biz and he said everyone always told him what a great cook he is and that he should open a restaurant. So he did. I craved more food from Quality my remaining days in Negril, and still do sitting here at home as I write this report. Attachment 48215Attachment 48216Attachment 48217Attachment 48218Attachment 48219Attachment 48220
After we finished dinner and was talking to Quality, Mr. T's grandmother walked by. He called her in and she joined us, ordering a Malta. This moment was one of the best of my trip. What a cool night.
We headed back to Canoe for some french press coffee. That wired me. Mr. T was done and close to home, so we caught a cab back to Nirvana. Even after the 10 dirty bananas and numerous Red Stripes, I had energy. I surprised myself. I convinced DH to go to Alfred's because I knew they had a band that night. We walked down the sidewalk instead of the beach. Really thankful for all the kind sidewalks in Negril. The band in general left alot to be desired, except for the conga player. He was an older guy and had it going on. Mr. T later told me that he sits in with alot of different bands. We had a few drinks and went home to crash out. Tomorrow was my birthday so I didn't want to wake up feeling rough. Attachment 48221
We headed back to our room and snacked on some buns and cheese. I never thought it would go together but it actually worked. Has anyone else tried this concoction? Or maybe Mr. T was pulling my leg when he told me about it. Attachment 48222
Day 4
The Happiest Birthday yet. No place I'd rather be to celebrate.
