Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Been coming to Negril for 30 years, but this is the first time staying at Idle Awhile (beach). What's their attitude about smoking. The owner at Catcha once told me "smoke whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want". That made me feel right at home.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Some be fine with anything you want to smoke anywhere on premises or beach

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
That's good to hear. Thanks

We are staying here ourselves in November for the first time. I just retired after 31 yrs at Honda. This is my retirement trip. . If they are strict on this we will have to rethink it.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Rethinking may be extreame. It's nice to be able to sit on your porch, or at the bar and enjoy a splif. But if they frown on this there's always the room (although I like keeping the room smelling nice), the waters edge, or hundreds of other places. This place looks nice and cozy, and I'm not going to base my reservations on this, but it would be nice to indulge anywhere, anytime. I'm sure I'll post in August.
Congratulations and Happy Retirement!

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
In January at restaurant table next to us at lunch 4 people (guy & 3 girls) each fired up their own spliff and smoked them without any issues. No problem at all at IA

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
It's not a life and death matter. Just nice having freedom. Can't wait to hear about your stay. It does look like a sweet little place.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Thanks JahCruiser. Sounds like our stay on the cliffs last year. This is one of the many reasons I prefer the smaller hotels over the big AI resorts.
Miss Honey, I'm counting the days! ill me sure to get the place all warmed up and ready for your long awaited retirement!

lol, are you talking about us? No problem anywhere on the resort, or anywhere else for that matter.
Forgot it was just two of us this year, but no problem anywhere, including the restaurant.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
With smoking being legal there now why would any of the beach properties be concerned?

I didn't know that smoking herb was legal now. Did this happen since I left in January? I know it wasn't then.
Interested in finding out.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
It's not legal, it's decriminalized. I believe if you have less than 2 ounces, you could get a ticket, not much money, but I think you have to go to Sav to pay it.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Accompong, pretty much as Saeyedoc says...except I hadn't heard about having to go to Sav as I don't know a soul that has received a ticket yet. ;)

That's what I thought. Just was surprised by someone referring to it as "legal".
Carry on. ;)

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Legal, decriminalized, potato, potatoe. I haven't been able to determine from this thread if people are concerned about the smoking of cigarettes or ganj.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Regardless of legality, I think some properties may be concerned just for the comfort of their guests. For example, if you spark-up in the middle of a crowded restaurant, some guests might might complain as it can disrupt their meal.
However, in my experience, this is not a problem in the majority of open air restaurants, as long as other guests aren't right on top of you.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Decriminalized or legal im not sure I would enjoy somebody puffing away when I'm trying to have a nice dinner. Just my opinion.
Peace!

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Great! I'm pretty discreet anyway, especially with kids around. But if I'm at the bar, things are nice and quiet, I'd hate to hit the beach or behind a bush if I don't have to.
Thanks all. Hope to run into each of you someday in our happy place. Nothing better than our toes in the sand and a spliff in our hand!

I gave up cigarettes 2 decades ago. Those things will kill you. Now if it weren't for by back pain and glaucoma, or was it arthritis.....

I've been known to smoke a cigar or two as well. Although completely legal, I respect those who don't and will not do so in populated areas. In fact, I'm more likely to light up a joint than a cigar. As non social as I can be, I respect others space and expect mine to be respected as well

I like that! Sounds like that could be a Country Western song.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
the last thing I would concern myself with while in Negril.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
I assumed it was legal as last feb we were on the beach and entrepreneurs weren't even trying to hide it or be discreet. Pulling big buds and walking up to everyone like it was sugar cane. Even saw them sit and roll a few for a group of girls that wanted it done for them. I don't smoke cig's or bud, but when someone around me is I don't mind. It's kind of like the unofficial scent of Jamaica.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Irine...as said in an earlier post...it's decriminalized under 2oz...the ticket you may get is only around 500j. :)
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Idle Awhile is no problem all around & nice location. We meet up with friends there when ever staying at the cliffs ( Catcha' too) for great area on the beach, short walks great places.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Thanks McBriGuy I know Negril very well. Although I've walked past countless times, this is my first time staying at Idle Awhile.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
I have stayed at Idle Awhile numerous times....smoking a spliff on the beach is no problem, as that is legal now. Smoking at the bar or at the a table in the outside restaurant is fine too, as long as you are respectful of others, and children.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Well, not really 'legal', but decriminalized.
-
Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
Ahhh the perfume of the island.

Re: Question about Idle Awhile Beach.
For the most part over the years I would always ask if smoking was okay? Respect mon! But I have not been since the rules have been changed and 2ounces is now legal? Or did that bill pass?

GL...under 2oz is still decriminalized...you may get a ticket. Having over 2oz is illegal & a criminally chargeable offence.
