Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?

I hope the link works. So far all hotels and cottages in Negril seem to have a no pets policy, but if people were allowed to bring their dog on vacation with them, some people might want to and some hotels might have to change to pet friendly ?? maybe ??
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
Other than someone travelling with a service animal ...
Why would you bring a dog or cat on vacation ..with you ??
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
It might be a good idea to keep the little guys at home. I love my dogs but could not imagine putting them thru the travel.. They get the own vacations anyway :)
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
I didn't read that as pertaining to tourists. I took it as long term visitors, not short visit tourists. I really hope they're not going to let every tourist who wants to bring their pets, do so. Seems like opening a huge can of worms.
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
Now this was one new interesting turn of events when I read it. As usual the article was very sketchy with few details, but I did read the line something like " Approved countries" , so the first thing I knew was don't ASSUME USA will be one of them. For a country that has eradicated rabies this is a move that does not make much sense to me. However, could boost $$$ and if this was holding some folks back , oh well.
The interesting part will be all the "fees" JA can now put on such , over and above the $$$ of fido's airplane ticket. This will be an interesting story to watch.
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
Anyone bringing a pet from the US has to place the animal in a 6 month quarantine first IIRC, pretty much negates any tourist bringing Fido on vacation IMO.

Vaccination uses dead rabies cells as a preventative. It works by giving the animal a slight case of the decease which then results in immunity. However the animal has in fact been infected.
James Jenner first tested his immunity theory by infecting a boy with cow pox by scratching his skin with the fluid from a cow pox blister. It worked and so he started using small pox fluid to vaccinate.
The word vaccine coms from the French/Spanish word for cow "Vaca"
I'm 75 and I was vaccinated with a scratch on the arm.

Fake rabies certificates are available for sale all over the Internet.
Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
I didn't see the giraffe, but I did see several pink and spotted elephants. Most speak with a heavy accent.
I could imagine the feast the sand fleas would have with pets on the beach!

Could be the start of a new cottage industry like "rent a dread" would add "rent a mutt" to the mix.

Re: Change in bringing your dog on vacation with you?
don't think bringing a pet on vacation to jamaica is a good idea. Im' seen too many sickly looking animals in Jamaica to want to expose any pet to them.

I totally agree. In fact, I will go out on a limb here and say something that some (or maybe even most) may not agree with but "pet" isn't something that most Jamaican people would think to call their animals. Maybe around Negril there may be more but out on the island dogs and the occasional cat are tolerated and fed but not often shown much affection.
Dogs are usually kept to warn of an intruder and cats to chase off rats. Where we mostly like quiet dogs, they mostly want loud, barking dogs.
Just my observation.

Here one of our dogs and cats. The are both pet and working as described by Accompong. The dogs are allowed on the verandah but not in the house except an occasional "nose poke"
