Rock house is very nice.
Another good choice may be The Lodge at tensing pen.
Our favorite is probably the blue mahoe.
Beautiful setting and excellent food.
What about the Caves, or Zimbali
Things change quickly in Negril but Swordfish was off the scale good last February. Tensing Pen had very disappointing escovitch fish which was overcooked, battered and deep fried. Kinda like an upscale "Captain Highligner" but over cooked. Was expecting fresh caught fish. Failing that....it's all over for me. Atmosphere and other dishes were very good, just not mine. :(
Ciao Jamaica or Hungry Lion
Is ciao by samsara.?
Blue Mahoe is very good
Kuyaba would be my choice. Great atmosphere and tasty, good quality food.
we are going to check out Murphys this year. it looks pretty cool. Rockhouse is beautiful.
I think we’re gonna give rockhouse a go
Without a doubt..Ivan's at Catch...I take my honey there every year for her birthday..of which they setup a special romantic table a bit isolated from the dinner guests...next Feb. will be her 4th birthday there.
Nothing wrong with that choice.
Birthday girl should be pleased .
Btw many of the restaurants offer free pick up from your hotel/resort, I'd be surprised if rock house wasn't one of them.
One less expense.
Kuyaba up in the crows nest gets my vote
Ditto on Swordfish - amazing food, prices and view (upstairs) last Dec at least - for sure going back there in a couple weeks!
What didn't you like about Ivan's? That's our favorite. I think Rockhouse is beautiful, but their menu is too Americanized for my tastes. Blue Mahoe is good, but I don't like the atmosphere as much as Ivan's. The Caves would be special, but very expensive and I find the cave setting just too humid when you could be enjoying a nice breeze instead on the deck.
I would suggest that, too. However, when I tried to reserve it for my wife's birthday they told me it was 'first-come-first-served'. When we got there was a group who hung out in the nest getting drunk, long after they finished dinner.
It's worth a shot, though.
My wife and I go to Negril every year for our birthdays. A few years ago we did the tree house at Couples. It's probably just for guests, but a call just to see couldn't hurt. It was very private and very romantic. We'll both remember that dinner for a long time.
When we went Ivan’s the food didn’t impress me and where we sat we had plastic chairs. The cheap kind we used to use at home 20 years ago. Beautiful location but crappy seats and didn’t enjoy the food. Lots of other choices. We’ve settled on rockhouse
treefrog, that’s really too bad. We have always been seated in wooden chairs. We also always have a reservation and I think that helps with the table you get. We did Ivan’s Night Of 100 Candles for a Valentines and it was one of the best evenings I’ve ever had. Pricey but worth ever penny. Rockhouse will be awesome!!
I've never had a bad meal at Ivan's, great stuffed Snapper, lobster, seafood curry.
We do a split stay at Catcha Falling Star every year. I know the white plastic chairs you are talking about . I’m thinking they got rid of them last year and were replaced with brown chairs that are much nicer. They rearranged the morning coffee Bar and moved it to the back of the dining area. They also put concrete on the pathways. Lots of improvements.
I agree with saeyedoc & Miss Honey...can't remember sitting in plastic chairs for some time..& I always call for reso's for dinner..love the vibe there..I'm a short 5 min. walk to Rockhouse from my resort & do dinner there too just doesn't have the same vibe as Ivan's.
