Money Cologne at Arthur's Bar

We just ate at Arthur's Money Cologne bar on the beach. Never again will I make this mistake. We ordered two of the snapper lunches. I admit I made the rookie mistake of not asking how much they cost when we ordered. We waited over two hours for our food. My wife suggested we leave several times during our wait. When our "lunches" arrived we started eating. A few minutes later Money Cologne brought out an extra fish on a plate. I assumed it was his way of apologizing for the extra long wait time. His chef even came to us and apologized saying, "I'm doing the best that I can". After we ate I asked how much we owed. Money Cologne tried to charge me for three meals for the extra fish he brought us. I was furious and paid him for the two dinners and let him know I would be telling social media about our experience. Never again will we make that mistake again. I know why we were there only people eating there.

Not a good way to run a restaurant.

Yeah, Arthur's is a smaller bar, next door to Alfreds. I believe they are one of the oldest bars in Negril or they claim to be the first.

I used to like to hang out at Arthur's as it was less crowded than Alfreds and usually had a few loungers out front. I was excited to hear that there was now a restaurant onsite, but now I'm not so sure.

Actually, it's next to Arthurs, that is next to Alfreds... I think that price is way to expensive for a lunch on the beach... I will stick to my fish and chips at Alfreds.. !!!

What's next to Arthur's? Money Cologne's or Golden Sunset?

It was my understanding that Money Cologne was leasing space on Arthur's property. It looks like the "restaurant" is next to the bar structure and closer to the water, but you would still access it by going through Arthur's (if you were to enter from the road).

Mike, I could be wrong, but by the picture,it looks like Money's place is right next to Arthurs, I did know know it was associated with Arthur's in anyway.

Golden Sunset is a hotel across the road from Alfred's. They do not have a restaurant - I know because I stay there.

Money Cologne has a "restaurant" that is associated with Arthur's bar. We had fish and chips the day before at Alfred's. I wish we had returned there for lunch again. You can't beat Alfred's. I just wanted to warn people about Money Colognes place. Buyer beware. I admit I'm embarrassed about making a rookie mistake after 18 trips.

well after 35 years in Jamaica mi still make rookie mistakes....so don't feel bad...it's never ending being on your toes in Paradise
you always have to be on your guard and mi think mi grown eyes in da back of mi head these days........lol
and if anything happens to mi......it seems to be downtown or on the beach....thus mi not der that much

personally known Money Cologne for 20 years from when he use to hang in mi neighborhood.....
and him goes where the "Money" is these days.......which is the beach/beach road

I find it interesting that "Money Cologne" has a total of 1 post on this message board. Also, the response was too thought out and well stated to actually be Money Cologne. I call B.S. on his reply to me. It was orchestrated by someone else and it seems obvious who would do it and why.

I posted the exact same thing on two Facebook pages and people came out of the woodwork to tell stories about his nefarious dealings.

When we first met Money Cologne last week I jokingly told him he was famous because we saw him on Facebook. He told us he didn't have Facebook and didn't really know how to use a computer. Sooo.......he suddenly became computer savvy enough for his first official reply on this board to be in response to my post. Right. I still call B.S.

For those of you that still want to try his restaurant go ahead and give him a chance. But if you deal with him enough you'll eventually learn. Good luck.

The post was written by his daughter. She helps him with a lot of things, including the Internet. Money is definitely not computer savvy.

She saw your post on Negril.com and showed it to her Dad. She contacted me and asked how they could address it. I told her she had to register first which she did. Thus it is their first post.

Money told me about the key word and said I should email it to you if asked. I agreed.

What she posted for her Dad is not BS, but what they wanted to let you know. He made a mistake on his first try at running a restaurant and wanted to admit that.

I have known him since before he started his concert promotion business and told him that running a restaurant will be totally different. He is quickly learning that lesson.

I think in the end Greg’s foray with this into social media has been very successful. To be able to elicit a response from the parties of the owner so promptly certainly show the age we are in..in this day of cell cameras and social media, I think Money Cologne and other business owners will realize ‘daddy’s always watching.’ Although what happened to Greg and Kelly was unfortunate, I think some lessons will be learned here if they haven’t already. From the response of Money, it looks like he perhaps learned a lesson

Anyone have other experiences to share? I liked this response and might give it a careful look in February just because I’ll be in the area.

A general comment; When I have gone to a restaurant that I am not at all familiar with, that is without menus (or a menu board showing prices), I will ask the prices. Similar to the idea of getting in to a taxi in Jamaica, you want to know the deal before the ride.
Of course any establishment that would take advantage of unsuspecting clients will not be around for long anyway. As another boardie noted, there are far too many great options for food in Negril.

I have noticed a trend at restaurants at home and especially in tourist and business locations - a manager and sometime's the owners personally go to each table and ask "how is it?". And they do this before the check is on the table. It is not unusual to get this question from both the server and the management. May save them time defending a bad experience on social media after the fact.

I say Big Up to Money Cologne . Standing up , and trying to make it right , shows some integrity !

Four of us ate there end of Sept and had a decent meal, no issues. I'll be back for sure.
