any other ideas?

I will be staying for a month+ in the summer. I usually do it solo, but i have a dear friend, a newbie, coming to stay with me for a week. These are things i think she should know about the experience.. Please add to these.. And correct me if i’m wrong.. thanks

Things to know before you go:

You won’t see many tourists in the summer. Nobody goes in the summer; it’s too damn hot!

Some places close up, but most stay open and have lower room prices, a good deal. Food and alcohol prices do not go down, and are not that cheap, depending on where you go. About same as in US for dinner, but lots of cheap eats too.

Major reggae artists perform during the peak season, Nov - March, but not in off season. There will still be music, but more local music.



Some things you can do:


Meet interesting people.

Chill in a hammock

Chill in crystal clear water - everyday!

Enjoy the Vendors.!

Listen to the Music. And the Rooster!

Read a book

Take a road trip.

Watch the ‘parade’ on the beach

Have wonderful meals

Play dominoes

Get to know the locals who are there year after year, in the same spot

Meet some of my friends

Make friends of your own

Watch sunsets on the West End

Watch sunsets on the beach

Walk the Road

Sleep late

Get up for sunrise

figure out where your soul is and where you want to go next in life. i find it the perfect environment for that.

Find unexpected blessings!

Add Experience sand gravity

Smell the night Jasmine and listen to the tree frogs.

Bicycle ride

Hike up a river

Sunset boat cruise

thank you all.. my list is growing!

An afternoon nap on the cliffs, preferably in a hammock, while listening to the waves hit the rock.

R&R. Redstripes and Rum.

watch the rain from a your balcony or a small Tiki bar

Well, I would hire Linston to take you up to the Roaring River and swim in the caves in the open aquafers. It's an experience unlike any other, almost spiritual. Stop at Savlamar on the way home and go to the spice store. Can't remember the name of the place but you can get all the ingredients for spicy pumpkin shrimp soup, and a big bag of "jerk to the bone" spice. It'll take up your entire day, but she won't stop talking about it for a long time.

Irine, i've been to Roaring River many years ago, but don't know what open aquafers are?

i would love to go to Zion Hill, Cap and Family!!

Inside the cave where the water bubbles up from deep inside the earth. There are pockets and pools fed by underground water (the aquafers) that are the head waters of the Roaring River. Some are so deep they cannot be sounded, they appear bottomless. Super cool place to swim.

We were told (many years ago) that even Jacques Cousteau could not find the bottom of those wells. It was a cool tour with so many bats high up on the roof and Dragon breathing fire inside the pitch black cave. We heard how the Maroons used that cave system to cut through the hills and outwit the Redcoats.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity if you ask me. Our guide says the slaves escaped and hid in the caves and that is how the Jamaican cultural melting bowl begun. He also told us gps does not work in the caves and there are many miles left unexplored but the risk of getting lost is too great to explore them all. We loved it, but you probably guessed that already.

Go see Gordo at the Red Dragon and have some Jerk Pork from next door :) mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm showisgood !

Is that everyday or just Saturdays? Also heard if you get there after lunch you're out of luck.

Every day but Sunday. Pork sells out around 1:00 - 2:00 usually

Nooooooo
Summer time you eat mangos loads of different varieties at your feet

And mango shake in the morning
Mango salad pasta yum yum fresh breakfast every morning in summer

In tourist season don't really get to taste real mangos

If you don't like mangoes then o don't know what to say

I love mangos lol

Loads of crabs ... up and down west end hahahaha plenty of them and then Jamaican indian and curry gets involved and curry crab with green mango and rice

If you don't like this we'll lol what can I say

Oh yeah I don't eat crab nor lobster but there's loads in summer time

Music is sound systems clashing each other who has better exclusives
You will hear old special dub plates that come out in summer

Forward , wheel up , rewind etc etc ....,


And it will be hot but no mosquitoes
Plenty of fruit and fish everywhere

It will be burning hot
