Jerk Chicken
Heading down at the end of the week. I've been a long time Best in the West fan, but as the establishment became more popular (and for good reason), I started going to Step Aside. Marshall was a great one. Now that he has passed on, I'm looking for some new Jerk spots near the beach. I'd like to discover some new favorites. What's yours?

Re: Jerk Chicken
Biggs by Hidden Paradise is good.

Re: Jerk Chicken
If you are not just looking for barrel chicken, I really like the "Singing Chefs" jerk chicken at Tree House Resort. He is located down on the beach in a little building. If they are serving the jerk chicken salad, that's the best. I used to like Best in the West, but I have found other places that I prefer more.

Re: Jerk Chicken
I have started going to Ossie's instead of Best of the West. Cheaper and less like BBQ

Re: Jerk Chicken
Ossie's is legit, their pork is fantastic and her sauce is different from most.
-
Re: Jerk Chicken
Where is Ossie's located?
-
Re: Jerk Chicken
Ossie's is across the street from Negril Palms

Re: Jerk Chicken
Ossie's Jerk Centre is directly across from Donaldson's Inn. Same family. Miss Madge (Ossie's wife) also serves dinner next door. Excellent fried Red Snapper, King fish and Chicken Chop Suey are my favorites.

Re: Jerk Chicken
We have always liked Best in the West.

Re: Jerk Chicken
We also like “Best in the West”, but I am sure we will also sample Ossie’s and Smoky Joe’s. Anyone recommend any barrel chicken guys this year?

Re: Jerk Chicken
The barrel guy in front of Alfred's this past August was either really good, or I had a serious case of the munchies. There's a good chance it was both.

Re: Jerk Chicken
Hey JohnNYC,
I feel ya Brother.
Sometimes, just get a beer and start walking.
Nope, not enough smoke coming out of that one.
Nope, I can't smell it 20 feet away.
and then......all of a sudden, there it is!
A Cloud!
then some guy, with a long fork in his hand steps out of the cloud.
Then that cloud hits you.
Around my hotel there are Barrel guys every 1/2 block most nights.
Once a guy was trying to pull me over to his grill, but
I noticed a very big cloud erupt across the street from a barrel
when the cook opened it.
The wind was blowing my way and it hit me.
With beer in hand I floated across the road.
He lifted the top again, I pointed to a nice Juicy piece.
He stabbed it,....
and the rest is history.

Re: Jerk Chicken
First time we had chicken in Negril, we were staying above the HiLo, just before the bridge headed back from the beach we were walking along. There was a guy off the road 20 or 30 feet, just standing there in front of a smoking 45 gallon drum BBQ. The smell made us stop, he looked up and said "It's OK, don't be afraid". We walked over and he opened the grill, we would have paid whatever he asked. We got a half chicken and two ice cold stripes out of a cooler under the grill for 12 bucks. We ate most of it on the walk back to the HiLo. We got to our room and laughed, BBQ sauce everywhere greasy bottles, have been in love with the road side dudes ever since.
