Jungle Nightclub Safety
Hello,
I'll be heading to Negril on the 21st. I'm a single male and staying at an AI. I was wondering if anyone had any experience venturing off the resort in the evenings, alone, to the nightclubs, specifically The Jungle, Alfred's, Roots Bamboo.
Should I be worried for my safety?? I'll probably have a few drinks and would prefer not to get "rolled".
Would appreciate any and all thoughts.
Thanks.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
I have been by myself a couple of times. Once was for their Halloween party which was a blast. Even though Halloween is not generally observed in Jamaica it was a crazy night. Good times!
It looked like there were some "working girls" in there looking for single men from what I could tell. I normally never have so many women flirting with me so it was a dead giveaway LOL! There were also a lot of regular local women and men as well as tourist in there too.
Just use your common sense, don't do anything stupid like getting crazy drunk or leaving with people you do not know and you should be fine. Have fun!
From what I remember, lady's night is on Thursday's.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Thanks man. I was there a number of years ago with friends but seem to recall having to walk the gauntlet to get to any kind of cab to get back to the hotel. My memory is fuzzy but I remember that walk being shady.
I appreciate the reply.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Have someone else/a couple, at the AI to go with you.
Tell them the Jungle is a blast.
P.S.
No, do not accept Pre-rolled Joints,
No, do not accept drinks from anyone except the bartender.
You will be fine.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Thanks. So you wouldn't recommend going alone?
-
Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Alone is fine.
I thought "you" were apprehensive.
I have been alone many times.
It's OK.
If you are a cool, confident, keep your wits about you kinda guy, No problem.
Enjoy!!
Leaving late, you may pay extra for a Taxi, that's all.
P.S.
It's just more fun with others,
like Jerry and George and Kramer and Elaine.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
I've been heading down to Negril as a single guy the last 3 years and have visited all those places usually myself with no problems (and usually walking the beach or road back to White Sands). As long as you take a cab to the bars (and have a number to call one when you're done partying to go back to your AI), you'll be fine.

Don't over drink, keep your wits, and you won't get rolled! Be a bit of a pessimist an You'll be fine.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
I have gone out in Negril alone, including the Jungle. Don't get drunk, don't get to cozy with anyone, and go home at a reasonable hour or if the atmosphere becomes tense for some reason. I love the atmosphere at the Jungle... it's fun dancehall, great people watching, and some talented dance crews "facing off"... if not staying close (hotel) to your night spot, take a taxi. You can try to establish a relationship with one driver during the day and set up a pick up plan or get their number, or just look for a car with a red plate. I hate the motorcycles, especially after sunset- they are the only thing on the road that makes me leery. Have a blast, don't be a drunk a-hole and you'll be fine!!!

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
had some friends in town a couple weeks ago so they dragged mi to the Jungle.....lol
appeared to be same old same old except for too many guys selling prerolled joints....
wish all places had the security that the Jungle has.....but still kept mi wits about mi....lol
common sense and not getting super stoned or falling down drunk is always good advice.....
go with somebody else is always good advice.....no problem getting a taxi ride home after leaving the Jungle...
Jungle is now open Friday nights too......be awhile since they have had dat......
Cool Runnings, Marko

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Have gone solo to all those places before and echo most if not all the advice given already. Yeah, the walk out can feel a little sketchy but its mostly people just trying to earn a buck. Once in a while you'll see someone really f'd up and trying to cause trouble.
at times, it's more fun sitting at the gate whit a red stripe watching the action than it is inside.
If I ever feel sketched out or think i have "eyes on me", I'll stop at a barrel chicken guy and have a cup of soup or water and chat for a while to feel the situation out.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Mikey,
Great advice on sitting back to evaluate the situation with others around, rather than just scooting off on your own with them possibly following. Typical New Yorker move. If someone is watching and you do that, they typically know your onto them and move on to the next mark. If your wrong, at least you've had a good snack!

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Never had a problem there. .....................Wait................I've never been there.
If I ever did go I'd be a super senior Silver Fox and would have to beat off the women............... But............
I'm asleep by 8:00PM................. so I guess that's why I've never been there

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
They usually round up a group of folks from the AI resort to go to the Jungle so listen out for that OR ask one of the staff members they sometimes will escort a group to the Jungle and hang around with you...done this plenty times but Im cute! Hahaha!! But seriously just ask around the resort when you get there I'm sure you will find someone going IF you don't want to go alone.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
I'm with you Capt. We stay nearby at Rondel Village and my only experience with the Jungle is hearing the music still going through the bathroom window when I visit the head about 330am, I can tell what time it is by whether I still hear the music or not, if I hear the music I still have a few hours to sleep, if I don't, the alarm might be going off soon, I get up about 615 to walk the beach first thing in the morning. I usually walk out to the road before my beach walk and sometimes I can still see the jerk barrels smoking from the previous night's fire.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Crazy question but do you think it's possible to find a local/driver to take couple 18 year olds out to the bars one night and watch out for them. Like to the Jungle and Alfred's maybe from 10-2ish. What you think the going rate would be for that.

I would have more concerns about this than just going to the club on my own. IF you have a long time relationship with someone local and can ask them to keep an eye on the kids, that's one thing. Asking people if you can pay them to keep an eye on your kids could attract some unwanted attention. If you are feeling this way, I'd say skip the club all together. There is live and dj music every night of the week on the beach from 10-2. The only thing the jungle has going for it is that there is a cover fee, so the guys who can't, don't, or won't pay to get in are all at the free venues like Bourbon Beach. in my 28 nights in negril, I've been to the jungle 2 times. Not something I have to do every visit! Concerns about going to Roots, Alfred's, and Bourbon Beach are simply getting a car home, which is easy enough. 18 year olds can be two kinds of kids... kids who just want to hang out and have fun, or kids who want to get smashed because they can drink alcohol in public... you know the kids. If they need supervision, perhaps they shouldn't go out alone. If they are young and pretty, they will get attention from a lot of bystanders, at all hours of the day and night.

I think my question was stated a little wrong. As a mom I would feel better if they had someone driving and escorting them to different clubs and bars for a night. Not thinking of some random person just to pay off the street. Was more thinking of one of the preferred drivers on this site and thought maybe someone has gone and had one of the drivers escort them for the night.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
mjc, have a perfect driver for you, He has been my driver / friend for years, and is very trusted and used by many boardies here, during the late April boardie bash. H e would dress casual , and make sure your kids got to and from, and would be able to guide them with advice. As far as price on this, this is something you could work out and negotiate. If you are interested, message me and I will get you all info.

Mjc...this is super easy to do.
If you have a relationship with a driver ask them to take the kids around town or your driver can arrange with someone else to take them...just a reminder to make sure the driver is legal/red plated.

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Been a few years since I was a single guy in Negril, but I always thought the Jungle was tame compared to Scrub a Dub...
Some excellent suggestions on this thread for single guys! Hopefully they remember it when the rum starts flowing and the crowd starts swaying!! LMAO
Enjoy,

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
I think JoJo has the best idea....I would NOT just take a driver's recommendation for another driver unless you had a long standing relationship with the driver......I would strongly recommend due diligence

Re: Jungle Nightclub Safety
Rob's advice is sound. I know adult couples who take a wing man with them to crowded venues at night.
