Re: Travelers Beach Resort
Just a fyi...the pool at Travellers has recently been renovated and it's gorgeous...but you cannot see the sea from the pool other than a slightly angular view from a few spots on one side of the pool and decking.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
We stayed at Travellers the last two years. Once in a standard room, and the 2nd time in one of the bungalows. The standard room is nothing special, but it did have good AC, and was roomy and very clean. I liked the bungalow better. We stayed in one with a kitchenette, only so we could have a fridge and coffee maker. Nice to be able to sit on the porch and watch the people walk by. The security there is wonderful! They really do go the extra mile for you, and if we were coming back this year I'd stay again, but we're finally going to Port Antonio. It is further down the beach, but we always liked walking the beach and you are close to town. The owner is a sweet man, and is always around. I like the fact that they do so much for the community also. Never stayed at GP, so I can't offer my opinion.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
Have stayed at Travelers and enjoyed the stay. The family and staff are excellent and as stated the security if as good as it gets on the beach. You cannot see the sea from the amazing pool though. The only negative for me about Travelers is they don't have much of a beach area and when the river backwashes out the water turns a stained brown. It can be kind of a buzz kill on a perfect day when it happens. Most leave the water and it kind of puts a stop to things.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
Thanks Bnewb. I could deal with that. The pool looks beautiful!
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
Thanks for being honest about that RonMon. About how often does that happen? Doesn't sound too good. That's one thing we've always loved about GP the beach is really beautiful right there. White Sands has a nice beach area too.

It is a bit random, but both times we were there it was most days of the week. We were there once in July and once in September. I hate to say it, but it is true and it is a vibe killer!
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
The river darkens during heavy rains from the red ground mud...it blends into the sea after these rains and travels along the beach front water until it eventually dissipates.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
I used to have some good pics of it, I am sure someone does?? It is actually pretty creepy looking to watch as it crawls down the beach. Coral Seas really gets it bad!
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
Ya...definitely not the pretty sea turquoise, RonMon...even worse usually up by the HiLo when it happens.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
I like the location of GP better, but mostly becuase I'm out walking around at night sometimes and want to be "close to home"... the road and beach seem darker down that way and I'd be totally dependent on taxis in order to feel safe. I've seen the updates on the facebook page at Travellers, and it looks beautiful! I also appreciate all that they do with NEET and the soup kitchen.
Re: Travelers Beach Resort
I have stayed at travellers for the past 3 yrs ,usually in late November/early dec. Was there in the middle of renovations this last trip and the pool looked beautiful! We have only encountered the water turning brown two afternoons/out of 8 on our last trip. Maybe we get lucky. Yes makes you get our of the water, and was close to nap/late lunch so really didn't interfere, besides you can walk right over to the bar or pool, and continue the afternoon. And the staff is truly wonderful. The rooms are clean and adequate. We can't wait to get back this year and enjoy the finished renovations!
