Sick kid just landed At MBJ need advice
We are spending the night at the Wexford before heading to negril tomorrow. our eight-year-old boy has come down with a fever and what looks like conjunctivitis. We are debating whether to take him to the 24 hour clinic (Fairview medical was suggested at front desk) first thing in the morning or what? We think he probably needs antibiotics. Any advice? Any idea what we should expect to pay ?

How hi is fever? When did eye start? Can give natural remedy if interested private message.

take him to the clinic, it is ill advised to have someone diagnose your child without seeing him. conjunctivitis is contagious but a fever is serious. I am a pediatric nurse practiotioner so i speak from experience.

I agree. Take him first thing to the clinic in Fairview. The Wexford gave you the best advice.

I can't for the life of me see any viable alternatives. "Just see what happens"? "Take some herbal cure for what you don't know?" I spent 5 nights in Black River Hospital a couple of years ago and it cost me $300 US. Money is not an issue when a child is sick now, is it?

It’s all good. We went to the doctor in Montego Bay very early this morning. She prescribed antibiotic drops. He’s already feeling better and we are under the grape leaves at firefly with drink in hand. Thanks for the input. The board

For what it’s worth I wasn’t debating whether to go based on price. I was just trying to understand how much cash I would need. It ended up being $40 for the visit and $25 for the medication. I don’t ask about the cab ride.

Hi
My service is available in this circumstance also. Glad all went well!
If you are PreRegistered you have access to me 24/7 for Q&A, referral and telephone triage! I work with a few physicians that work in MoBay as well as many in Negril or Sav. There is a benefit to be PreRegistered... for a small fee I have your info and you have access to me via phone too.. highly worth it and may save money in the end.
If you call for help and are not PreRegistered, I will come and assess to provide services to you OR make the best plan of what you need.
As an option I am doing telemedicine. I trialed this last year and have been utilizing this all season with ONE physician again. The physician has a small fee but thank God he is there for us! This has been is very helpful if there is NO physician in Negril and we need one! Plan Ahead folks! Nurse Beth
