Friends of mine are considering White Sands for 2-3 weeks next fall. Trip advisor reviews are generally good but but there’s not much about garden vs. Beach front. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi slimjim
Beach front side has smaller rooms but it's just steps to the bar and beach. The beachside property is narrow, with an empty lot on one side and nirvana on the other side. The garden side is across the road from the beach front rooms, quieter with bigger rooms and where the pool and office is. Security is on both sides. Both sides are well maintained. For some, crossing the road to get to the beach might be an issue. I've stayed on both sides and each has their perks. Beachside definitely books up quicker during prime season.
BTW by 'smaller' I am referring to the actual size, not the varying levels or types of rooms. They have been renovating some of the rooms on the garden side. Not so sure much work has been done on the beachside rooms but maybe someone else might know that.
It's a lovely place to stay. No frills but still have fridges in the rooms. There is a US # on their website to ask them whatever else you might want to know.
Enjoy!!
Hi, the boardies took over White Sands this week, so it is no longer standing. :)
I won't stay anywhere else.....best value on the beach, on the best area of the beach. I stayed beachside in a deluxe room, which is just a little bigger than a standard room, with 2 double beds.
The garden side is just as nice ( actually more private ) . They offer an apartment, and a villa as well. They have a nice, newly remodeled pool. The staff is top notch, from the front desk, security., bartenders,
servers, and Francic, the general manager who is always taking care of your every need. ( A large group of folks stayed at the villa this past week, and wanted to grill, so Francis went to Mo Bay and purchased them a brand new grill. I myself, like beach front, close to the beach, no need to cross the street, but for a longer stay they may prefer the more open garden side.
P.S. This place has become very popular , they may want to get on it if they want 2 weeks this fall.
Ditto what jojo p and roz said...Their one bedroom apartment on the beach side is really good sized with full kitchen and dining room and total of 3 beds if you need more space too..
I'm going to follow this thread. We've just booked White Sands for the first 2 weeks of November. We've never stayed there, but have read good reviews. We've stayed at Legends and Negril Palms and liked them both. Looking forward to staying here and booking with them was awesome...very accommodating! Maybe we'll see you there!
lahoge, no offence to the other two places you mentioned, but they do not come close to how awesome WS is......real chilled, relax, nice, fun social bar, and center of everything which makes it easy to walk everywhere. No worries, you will enjoy staying there. Just checked out yesterday...:( A very hard thing to do !!
I agree with jojo p..for the dollar..you can't beat it and I have tried alot of places there..my only minor complaint is there is no TV in the rooms except for the one bedroom apartment..but I manage to survive..lol
Just to add my two cents. At White Sands the pool is new and awesome, the room we stayed in had a new bathroom, and I think they all are complete now. Every room has a balcony or patio, the pool area has a nice pool table and ping pong table plus a leave one take one library. There are mango, star fruit and naseberry trees on the garden side to nibble from. Security is good, staff is very helpful and once Paul and Tony at the bar see your wrist band your "check liver soon light" will be blinking in no time. Rooms are large and quiet on the garden side, and virtually every thing you could want to eat is within a few minutes walking distance. So after staying at many places in Negril, White Sands gets a big thumbs up from me.
jojo p, That's awesome and good to hear! Looking forward to our stay!
We have stayed at White Sands and were very happy with it.We have the Villa booked for 10 days at Thanksgiving this November, party on!
Geeeezz you guys...I've been putting my large group of family and friends in the White Sands villa for years...now I'm going to have to book it a lot earlier now! :concern: :encouragement:
I know how you feel Bnewb, we tried to book for a couple days in December and couldn't do it...
You people are killing me! Lie! Lie! Lie!
My worst fears finally happened. I went to book WS for next Feb (9 months away) and I was only able to get a partial booking (forced to start my vacation at Seastar). Not only that but I even have to move to different rooms half way thru my time at WS.

So I don't know how restrictive your time line is, but we just booked March 2nd until March 16th and they still had room. We're pretty happy with that, it's only a week or so later than we usually go. We had looked into Treasure Beach if we couldn't stay in Negril, but we ended up have some good luck. My only concern is we will run into some spring breakers, but I hear that's not too big a thing in Negril anymore.
Yeah, I usually try to make reservations around certain company holidays I have (Black Friday, Presidents day) to maximize time down in Negril without sacrificing my limited vacation time.
Negril, unfortunately is mainly occupied by our generation (so I wouldn't worry about spring breakers too much). I've talked to other boardies about this and I fear that the Negril we know now (and with great due respect to the old timers who knew an even better time) will disappear in 30 years or so and will be swallowed by AIs because I believe it's what the Millenials want (I'm trying my best to convert my daughters & grandson though.. lol).

When we took our twenty something kids last winter it was the 1st time they had not been on an AI. I think we really opened their eyes. Not only did they realize there are not daily draw downs on the streets at high noon, but they still mention months later that they would give anything to stop by the jerk chicken stand outside white sands for 5 bucks worth of pure joy. The word they use most to describe Negril was "freedom". Coming from the USA there is some irony in that for sure. In the 11 years we've been going we really see the change though, and I believe you are right about the Millenials, it really is what they want. They don't want to cook, clean, have to make a decision, risk making a poor decision, or think for themselves. All we did as parents was make sure they didn't have to cook, clean, make a decision, risk making a poor decision, or think for themselves.................oh s##t, we did this. So I'm taking some responsibility for this mess, and I'm trying to turn my kids around in some regards just as you are. I hear Treasure Beach may be the next Negril, but lets just keep that here on the board:encouragement:
ukran1as, what a darling little boy ! I wish there was a video to listen to,...I hope folks are wrong, and Negril could stay the way it is, so that in twenty years or so, that boy will be a grown man, with a cold Red Stripe in his hand, still jamming on the beach like his grandpapa is now !!! :)
Hey Jojo,
There's no video but I can give you some of the audio...
Me: hey Declan, go dance to their music..
My daughter: Crap.. now I have to tip them..
Lol
