Westender Inn
Has anyone stayed there & if so your thoughts? The pictures look pretty nice but is it too remote? I'm having a heck of a time finding affordable places for New Years. Also, at that time of year do you need air con if you stay in a cottage at Travellers? They only have a ceiling fan which made me leery.

Re: Westender Inn
Stayed at Westender.....very nice and relaxing...it is, however, way way out.....we did get frustrated at times when we wanted to re join civilization....if all you want to do is chill....this is it

Re: Westender Inn
It does look pretty out there. I'm thinking about Catcha Falling Star instead. Will be first trip to the cliffs rather than beach but it looks pretty nice. It's down to that or White Sands (which we've been to).

Re: Westender Inn
Catcha is very nice as well...stayed there also and you may find the location better

Re: Westender Inn
too remote unless you are in the witness protection program....you will definitely need wheels if you stay here.....

Re: Westender Inn
LOL, you gave me my laugh for the day with the witness protection program Line Marko :)

Re: Westender Inn
Looks like it's come down between that or White Sands. Will I give in & go to the beach once again or try something new & stay on the cliffs?? I guess I'm afraid if I do the cliffs I will miss the beach & be mad at myself. But then again, we may love it! Who knows.

Re: Westender Inn
Catcha is topo shelf.....only suggestion is to NOT take a cottage right near the road....get one close to the water....and you can always get to the beach easy if you need
-
Re: Westender Inn
Uh oh. The only 2 left at the time I was looking were the 2 near the road. Pisces & the other one. I was going to take Pisces since it had a partial sea vie & the deck looked really nice with the hammock. I may need to rethink this or go a bit later. I was wanting to go before New years but on New Years day itself a lot more become available.

Re: Westender Inn
All I am saying is the ones by the road have a bit more noise....they are still very nice rooms....
-
Re: Westender Inn
I would definitely stay at the White Sands, ( if you can get in) ...New Years is fun on the beach.... you could go have a nice dinner at Catcha....
-
Re: Westender Inn
How bad is the road noise Bobby? Can you still hear the tree frogs? I love falling asleep to the sound of the tree frogs.
And jojo p now I'm getting confused again because New Years on the beach does sound fun! Never been over New Years before.

Re: Westender Inn
I was there on New Years 4 years ago. It was so fun ...stayed at White Sands, took the one love bus......then went to Alfred's for fireworks........so spent some time on the cliffs, then the rest of the evening on the beach...lots of music !!

Re: Westender Inn
Hmmm, beach or cliffs - seems like most people on this forum stay on the beach - or maybe its just that there are more rooms on the beach so more people stay there. It would be fun to take a poll sometime - was your last stay only beach, only cliffs, or a mixture of both?
Westender is far but that makes sense with the old Boss Hogg stories. We stayed there around 6 years ago and it was nice. Breakfasts were OK, dinners we mostly went out, rroms were pretty big and nicely appointed. Pool is across the street - but you can swim around the entire island of Jamaica!

Re: Westender Inn
We always stay on the beach except for 1 trip several years ago that we split between White Sands & Seastar Inn. We loved Seastar but it's so far from the water so that's why we haven't done it again. I don't want to take a long walk home after watching the sunset. We do love the beach but was always interested in having a cliff experience that was on the water.

Re: Westender Inn
As for the noise SVW...kind of hard to describe(been a while as well) The one I can compare to better was banana shoot....we stayed near the water for 10 days and then had to move up to the cottage near the road..I have to say it was far less peaceful

Re: Westender Inn
We stay at Catcha every yr for at least part of our trip. We normally move at least once from one room to another. This is common practice staying there. I have seen people move 3 times in one week. You pack your stuff and they move you. Last yr we stayed in the Pisces for 2 nights before moving to the Saggi. If you take the Pisces don't take to much luggage not much space. The bathroom is a step-down so be careful if you are drunk. Nice small outdoor shower. The back deck is really nice. The view is nice also. A hammock and a big tree in the deck. My only complaint was road noise at night and of course the cliffs barking dogs. I would take ear plugs next time. For the price , especially for that time of yr. you can't beat it. We are never in our room during the day. I will see if I can find some pics. I find with Catcha if you can book and get in check their website daily because its common to find cancellations.

Re: Westender Inn
Have never stayed at Westender but have visited it a few times (Sunday night bonfire is a must!). It’s way way way out there. Catcha is a better alternative if u want to be near restaurants, shops, a small bodega for beer and water, and much closer to the beach. We have stayed in Sky and Venus. There’s always a chance u may hear barking dogs at night up on the cliffs. The closer to the water u are the better, in regard to the noise. Bring earplugs for sure. Have you considered Xtabi?

Re: Westender Inn
Never really looked into Xtabi but we just booked at Grand Pineapple so will do beach again but want to spend a day on the cliffs & eat at Catcha & check it out for next time. It was booked for the nights we booked at GP & the other time we had considered going they only had the cottage closest to the road available. Do you know if they allow you to take a swim in their pool if you eat a meal there? Thanks for your thoughts BTW & I don't mind barking dogs. I live with one!
